Chapter 1645: A War Without Victors (Ninety-Five)
Chapter 1645: A War Without Victors (Ninety-Five)
"Is Rita Skeeter's situation related to you?"
"Why do you sound like you're interrogating a criminal?" Albert asked with a half-smile.
"No, I'm just asking. It was a bit too much," Hermione said softly.
"Saying that Rita Skeeter went too far is an understatement," Albert said meaningfully. "What that woman has done is enough to land her in Azkaban for life, instead of continuing to wreak havoc on others."
At this moment, the two were walking side by side on a gravel path on the outskirts of Avalon, checking the protective magic around the village and taking the opportunity to chat about the "Barbecue Sow" incident that had occurred a few days ago.
"So, it has nothing to do with you?"
Hermione seemed relieved. She knew Albert well enough, and if he had done it, he would probably admit it directly.
"I'm not that bored."
After confirming that the protective magic was intact, Albert and Hermione headed in the other direction.
Tonight was a rare full moon.
To prevent the Death Eaters from continuing to use werewolves to do terrible things, Albert and his friends decided to stay in Avalon tonight to ensure that no hot-headed individuals would come and destroy their village, and also to help Kingsley deal with any possible emergencies that might arise.
"This does seem like something you would do."
Hermione had initially thought that Albert was behind it, but now it seemed that he truly wasn't involved.
"Making me sound like a notorious villain," Albert said with a twist of his lips.
The two circled the outskirts of Avalon, confirming that the protective magic was still in place, before heading out of the village. They apparated back to the original reserve headquarters that they had been using.
While they were building their new Avalon, the old headquarters remained intact. For now, everyone was resting and preparing for tonight's events.
"Was it Fred and George?"
Hermione had a good idea of who might be responsible for the prank, and her expression suddenly became complicated.
"They almost killed Rita Skeeter."
"It doesn't help me if you tell me that," Albert reminded her.
"So, they all kept it from me?" Hermione seemed to realize something, murmuring softly, "I just..."
"Never try to teach others how to do things," Albert interrupted. "You're not a professor, nor are you Dumbledore. You're just an unmarried young lady, and not many people have the patience to listen to your lectures."
"Do you think so, too?" Hermione trembled her lips and finally sighed helplessly, "I just don't want them to kill."
"They know what they're doing," Albert said, looking at the seemingly hard-hit Hermione. "No one likes to be lectured, and I think you should know that by now."
"At least they're willing to listen to you, just like they did with Dumbledore." Hermione turned to the man beside her. She believed that if Albert was willing, he could definitely persuade the others.
"I don't want to live as tiredly as Dumbledore did."
The two walked through the deserted path and entered the temporary headquarters, heading towards the common room via the staircase on the right side of the hall.
As soon as they arrived, they met Susan at the door. After exchanging greetings, Susan mentioned lunch with a smile.
"Which do you think is better, spaghetti or paella?"
"You can have both," Albert said without hesitation. "Once school starts, you won't have this luxury."
"That's true."
Susan picked up the two-way mirror and sent a message to the Hogwarts house-elves. Then she turned back and invited a few gentlemen on duty nearby to help. They needed to go to the sea to get a batch of seafood.
"What do you think of this chair I made?"
After greeting everyone, Albert saw Angelina pointing to the bench in front of her and asking for his opinion.
"It needs improvement and isn't very useful." Albert took the bench and placed it under his butt, then smiled and comforted her, "But as your first attempt, it's barely passing."
"Tables, armchairs, and sofas are more practical."
Hermione quickly blended in with the other girls. With her exceptional manual skills, she was more proficient at making furniture than most people.
"Will there really be a large number of werewolves tonight?"
Kenneth handed Albert a bottle of chilled butterbeer and asked about tonight's plan.
"It's hard to say, but it's better to be prepared."
"That doesn't sound like something you'd usually say. Didn't you make a prediction?" Kenneth frowned, "Werewolves are not to be trifled with when they transform."
Many people in the common room put down what they were doing and looked at Albert curiously. Everyone was still very concerned about the possible action tonight, especially since the target was werewolves.
Albert lightly tapped the bottle cap with his finger, and it popped open. He took a sip and slowly explained to everyone, "I did make a prediction, but it's hard to say about the specific scale."
"What do you mean?" The crowd became even more confused.
"One werewolf is a werewolf, and a group of werewolves is still werewolves. My prediction is that there will be werewolves tonight, but as you know, it's normal for werewolves to appear during a full moon. That's why I said it's hard to determine the specifics," Albert said helplessly. "Divination is not omnipotent, and the wider the scope, the more likely it is to encounter such situations. However, one thing we can be certain of is that werewolves will become a big problem going forward."
"Do you really think those guys will create a large number of werewolves?" The crowd still found it hard to believe.
"There can't be that many werewolves left in Britain!" Truman added, "If one day a large number of werewolves suddenly appear, it will prove that someone is indeed creating them."
"Don't forget, those guys have caused trouble for Muggles by sending Dementors more than once," Lee Jordan, who had been playing chess, interjected. "It wouldn't be surprising if they did something even more outrageous."
"The Ministry of Magic should just round up that bunch of scum and hang them. I'm sure Kingsley has more than enough evidence!"
"It's not as simple as you think, especially since it involves an ancient wizarding family." Kenneth felt that these people were too naive. "The Ministry of Magic is, in essence, controlled by ancient wizarding families. Even if Kingsley is the minister, he can't go too far."
"What about Fudge? Cornelius Fudge did a lot of shady things back then."
"That guy was just a scapegoat. When he was causing trouble for Harry and Dumbledore, he had the support of the wizarding families who backed Voldemort. Remember, Fudge's senior advisor was Lucius Malfoy."
"Why don't we find an opportunity to get rid of them all?"
"We're not Death Eaters."
"They will be punished."
"Are we supposed to rely on the Ministry of Magic for that?"
"Kingsley doesn't have a choice. At the latest, there will be a resolution by next year," Albert forcefully ended the topic. "Anyway, let's rest after lunch so we're not tired tonight. Even though the Aurors from the Ministry of Magic will be the main force against the werewolves tonight, we still need to be fully alert in case we encounter them."
