Chapter 1640: A War Without Victors (Ninety)
Chapter 1640: A War Without Victors (Ninety)
"Has Albert arrived yet?"
In the kitchen of the small Sirius house, Mrs. Weasley, who was busy preparing dinner, glanced at the wall clock and called out to Ginny, who was setting the plates outside.
"Not yet," Ginny counted the plates on the table and replied to her mother, "Don't worry, Hermione will bring Albert along, they're always punctual."
"What about your father?" Mrs. Weasley asked further.
"Dad, Harry, and Ron aren't back yet either," Ginny glanced at the pocket watch Harry had given her, understanding her mother's anxiousness.
"I remember Arthur promising to be home on time today," Mrs. Weasley looked particularly annoyed, "And Harry and Ron, I specifically reminded them last night, but they all seem to have forgotten about it."
"Calm down, Molly,"
Lupin, who was helping with dinner, quickly tried to soothe her, "Albert won't mind."
"How can I not be angry? They're so engrossed in their work that they forget about their family. Harry and Ginny's wedding is approaching, yet none of them seem to care. If they don't, then why bother getting married at all!"
"I care, Mom, please don't be angry," Ginny also tried to pacify her mother. As their wedding drew closer, Mrs. Weasley's temper had become more volatile.
Especially with Arthur and Harry working overtime at the Ministry, most of the pressure fell on Molly's shoulders, which was becoming a burden.
No wonder she lost her temper so easily these days. If she didn't, no one would take the wedding seriously. If it weren't for her daughter's wedding, Mrs. Weasley would have washed her hands of the whole affair.
"What's going on? Who's upsetting Mom now?" Fred and George sauntered into the hall, leaning against each other's shoulders.
"You two, that's who,"
Mrs. Weasley placed a large pot of beef stew on the table and glared at the grinning Weasley brothers, her anger rising.
"Us? We wouldn't dare. We've been good, and we've completed all the tasks you gave us," Fred and George wore expressions of feigned innocence.
"Shut up, you two. Come help with the food and get the butterbeer keg," Mrs. Weasley ordered.
"Aren't we waiting for Dad, Harry, and Ron?" George glanced at his watch.
"No, if they want to work overtime, let them. Albert should be here soon, he's never late," Mrs. Weasley replied.
As soon as she finished speaking, voices could be heard from the entrance, and it seemed like Sirius was talking to someone.
"Looks like Albert's here. That guy's always so punctual," George muttered.
Ever since Hermione mentioned that Albert was from Avalon, Mrs. Weasley and Sirius felt they should invite him over for a meal and discuss Harry's wedding plans, which led to tonight's dinner invitation. (The small house couldn't accommodate everyone) "You seem less energetic than before. It seems that compiling textbooks is indeed a taxing task," Moody's steady voice carried down the corridor, accompanied by the tap of his cane.
"It is indeed a mentally draining endeavor,"
Lupin, who had been a professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts, had also accepted Albert's invitation to work on the "Dark Magic Defense Guide."
"It's mostly because there are many things to take care of lately, and the timing is a bit tight!" Albert smiled and greeted Moody, thanking him for his suggestions before taking a seat between Hermione and George under Mrs. Weasley's enthusiastic hospitality.
Hermione, of course, didn't believe Albert's excuse. She knew very well why he seemed less energetic lately. It was only natural that having to deal with multiple women would greatly drain his energy and stamina.
As everyone chatted over dinner, a familiar string of curses could be heard from outside, followed by the opening of the living room door. Harry, Ron, and Mr. Weasley rushed in, looking slightly exhausted.
"You finally decided to show up,"
Mrs. Weasley glared at the trio with her hands on her hips, her displeasure evident.
"Come now, Molly, let them catch their breath," Sirius winked at Harry, signaling for them to apologize.
However, before Harry could speak, Ron, who had just sat down, piped up, "We've been busy lately. The Ministry suspects that certain families who sided with Voldemort are mass-producing werewolves..." Ron trailed off as he met Mrs. Weasley's murderous gaze, shrinking back and falling silent.
"Harry, I know you've been busy, but your wedding with Ginny is approaching," Mrs. Weasley fixed her stare on Harry.
"Sorry, I'll pay more attention," Harry quickly apologized. He knew he had to make amends with Mrs. Weasley, having left most of the wedding preparations to her.
"Harry, we've got the fireworks ready for you, just like the ones Albert used at his wedding," George winked at Harry, "But you'll probably need to take a few days off soon to familiarize yourself with the wedding procedures. I'm sure Kingsley won't mind, considering the limited role a newlywed Auror can play."
"No talking during dinner,"
Mrs. Weasley's tone silenced the entire room, and she turned to Albert with a rare smile, continuously piling sausages, eggs, and roast chicken legs onto his plate.
"I can't possibly eat all this," Albert's face twitched slightly as he eyed the mountain of food, shooting a pleading glance at George beside him.
However, George only returned a helpless look.
"Would you like some whiskey?" Sirius offered.
"I'll stick with butterbeer, thanks," Albert shook his head in refusal,
"Pour me some, please," Ron mumbled, holding out his cup. Ever since he came of age, he had developed an interest in whiskey.
Tonight's dinner was exceptionally sumptuous, thanks to Mrs. Weasley's enthusiasm. She kept piling food onto Albert's plate as if he were her own son.
In the end, Fred and George couldn't bear to watch anymore and helped Albert finish more than half of it, allowing him to finally polish off the remaining food on his plate.
After dinner, Mrs. Weasley brought out a strange dessert—a red bean pie filled with cooked red beans and drizzled with copious amounts of honey. Albert only ate a small piece out of courtesy.
