Chapter 164: You Show This to a Child?
Chapter 164: You Show This to a Child?
Ivan looked at the dynamic image on the book cover, where seven little spirits were fighting a Giant to snatch a Muggle princess, and found it extremely unsettling.
He wondered which wizard had plagiarized the story of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" and then twisted it into this.
However, since the book was allowed to be sold here, it clearly indicated that its content was not too out of bounds and did not contain anything particularly strange.
"I don't think I need this, sir!" Ivan refused without hesitation, although he was well aware that the suggestion was made out of kindness.
In fact, this was not the first time the shopkeeper had reminded him. Earlier, while he was reading, she would often come over to suggest he read some basic books.
Ivan found this quite frustrating. After some thought, he pulled out his Wand and tapped the unsettling storybook.
To the amazement of the shopkeeper and her husband, the book slowly transformed into a toad under the influence of magic. The toad lay there lazily, its cheeks puffing out, and a series of unpleasant "gurgle" sounds came from its belly.
Although transforming a magic book was usually very difficult, this book, "Muggle Princess and the Seven Little Spirits", only had an image spell on its cover. Thus, Ivan did not find it too challenging.
"This is three Galleons and eleven Sickles. If there's nothing else, I'll be on my way. Thank you for your hospitality these past few days!" Ivan placed the counted money on the table, politely said his thanks, and then turned to leave.
Behind him, the manager and the shopkeeper gathered around the toad, looking quite puzzled. They discovered they couldn't transform the book back to its original form.
They could only wait for the magic to dissipate on its own, and in the meantime, they had to keep the toad in a cage to prevent the book from escaping.
Back at home, Ivan thought for a moment and decided it was time to deal with the trouble of the Horcrux.
He needed a magic called Fiendfyre to help him destroy the Horcrux!
After putting Tom Riddle's diary back in his room, Ivan went to the kitchen where Aisia was busy preparing dinner and asked her.
"Mom, can you teach me how to cast Fiendfyre?"
Aisia stopped her magical kitchen operations, and the utensils floating in the air fell to the ground. However, she didn't seem to care. She frowned and looked at Ivan.
"Fiendfyre? Why do you want to learn that?"
"I heard Fiendfyre is a very powerful spell. And the last time I saw you use it, it burned all the dummies in the training room in an instant", Ivan said, feigning great interest and persistently asking to learn the spell.
Last time, he had learned Blazing Explosion in a similar manner.
To Ivan's surprise, Aisia did not agree to his request but refused it without hesitation.
In her view, Fiendfyre was an extremely dangerous and dark spell, not something Ivan should be learning at his stage.
Ivan was speechless. Wasn't Blazing Explosion also dangerous?
"That's different", Aisia shook her head.
"Once Fiendfyre gets out of control, it can backfire on the caster, causing immense destruction. The most critical issue is that there are very few spells that can stop Fiendfyre from spreading, and I haven't mastered any of them."
Ivan was taken aback, recalling the Room of Requirement's destruction in the original story, where Crabbe's inability to control his Fiendfyre led to a wild inferno that consumed everything, including the caster himself.
In Ivan's memory, the only spell that could suppress such a terrifying flame was the high-level Spell-Stopper — the Spell-End-All!
Ivan didn't think he couldn't control the fierce fire, but what made him somewhat depressed was that no matter how he persuaded Aisia, she was unwilling to teach him this spell.
So, even during dinner, Ivan was still frowning, thinking about how to destroy the Horcrux.
After dinner, as Ivan was about to go upstairs to his room, Aisia called him back. Just as he turned around, he saw his mother toss a ring-like object to him.
Ivan caught it in a panic and looked at her in confusion.
Aisia, with one hand on her hip and the other pointing at Ivan with a spoon, warned him.
"This is a ring that can cast the Fierce Fire spell, and it can be used twice more. Although the range of the Fierce Fire it releases is a bit small, it's less likely to get out of control. Be careful when you use it, and don't burn yourself."
"Can you tell me now what you need the Fierce Fire for?" Aisia asked.
"I'll tell you when I can!" Ivan quickly put the ring away and replied casually.
Before Aisia could get angry, Ivan quickly slipped into his room.
From outside the door, the faint sound of Aisia's angry roar could be heard.
At this moment, Ivan had no time to pay attention. He hurriedly checked the magic items in his system.
【Magic Item: Fierce Fire Ring
Magic: High
Effect: Summon Fierce Fire (2/3)】
"Has it already been used once?" Ivan looked at the blackish-gray, unremarkable ring in his hand and muttered to himself.
This made him recall that when he first returned home and fought Aisia, she had used Fierce Fire, which was likely the effect of this magic item.
Ivan wasn't too concerned about the limited number of uses. Once he cracked the rune formula, he could buy some materials with Galleons and make a similar magic item.
However, this made Ivan realize that Aisia still hadn't taught him everything about magic item creation.
Besides the dangerous spells related to Fierce Fire, he was also only partially familiar with the method of making the crescent moon pendant.
After breaking through to Level 4 in alchemy, Ivan had tried to repair the pendant that could resist death, so he wouldn't have to give a poor answer if Aisia asked about it.
Unfortunately, when he actually tried to repair it, Ivan found that he had no idea where to start.
With his current alchemy skills, he could certainly make a pendant that looked identical, but its defensive effect would be about the same as a protective ring, and it wouldn't be able to block a high-intensity, lethal attack!
【Magic Item: Crescent Moon Pendant
Magic: Low (Strong)
Special Status: Damaged
Description: This is a magic item crafted with a great deal of precious metal and effort, capable of protecting the wearer from a lethal attack. It is now damaged.
Note: It contains not just magical power, but your current alchemy skills are insufficient to repair it】
"Contains not just magical power?" Ivan looked at the note at the end of the crescent moon pendant's description and fell into deep thought.
