Chapter 163: Adventure in the Emerald Dream
Chapter 163: Adventure in the Emerald Dream
Under everyone's watchful eyes, Liam asked them to wait a moment. His Nature Companion had wandered a bit too far, and he needed to go to the real world to bring it back.
Everyone nodded in understanding, especially a senior who had a black panther as his Nature Companion. He mentioned that his Nature Companion had never stayed quietly by his side.
Getting out of bed in the dorm, moonlight filtered through the curtains, casting a serene glow. It was quiet all around. The soundproofing ritual array on the train carriage would activate at night to ensure a good sleep, only deactivating in the morning when it was time to wake up.
Liam opened the door to the Plants vs. Zombies World and began to summon Little Qing through a magical contract. Little Qing, being a Magic Plant, required sufficient energy to grow, and Liam couldn't replicate the extensive ritual array that Slytherin had set up beneath Hogwarts to power his Basilisk.
When Liam first discovered this, he had intended to dismantle the ritual array. However, he found that it was an integral part of the castle itself, naturally integrated into its foundation, likely constructed alongside the castle. After all, Hogwarts was once Slytherin's stronghold, and it made sense that he would build a subterranean pet area or laboratory.
This realization left Liam with no choice but to admire the ritual array from a distance. It was intertwined with the castle's foundation, and any attempt to remove it could cause the entire structure to collapse. Not to mention the countless protective enchantments layered on top of the castle—Liam lacked the confidence to dismantle the Magic Array without triggering any of them.
As Little Qing grew, Liam found that simply planting it in a pot wasn't enough to sustain its growth, and he couldn't afford to feed it sufficiently. Fortunately, the Multiverse General Store connected to several worlds, and after traveling through them, Little Qing developed a taste for the Zombies in the Plants vs. Zombies World and the various monsters in the Radiation World. Liam forbade it from consuming any intelligent beings, but he discovered that the energy contained in these mutated creatures far surpassed that of intelligent beings. For example, Little Qing's current favorite meals were a Legendary Deathclaw and a Giant Zombie with an Imp.
Now, Little Qing was in the Plants vs. Zombies World hunting Zombies, which is why Liam told the others that his Nature Companion had wandered a bit too far.
About ten minutes later, a green shadow darted out of the portal. Sensing the growth and happiness of its Lifemagic power, Liam knew it must have been having a good time recently.
Little Qing, having not seen its owner in a while, happily climbed onto Liam's arm and circled it. It took Liam some effort to calm it down before lying back on the bed and entering the Emerald Dream.
Upon entering the Emerald Dream, the six students wearing Wooden Masks were still chatting. Seeing Liam return, a girl stood up and asked excitedly, "Did you bring your Nature Companion? Can we see it?"
Liam smiled and nodded, extending his arm to let Little Qing crawl out on its own. Having spent a considerable time exploring, Little Qing was not at all shy and quickly made its way from Liam's arm to the grass.
"Wow, so cute." Several girls had hearts in their eyes, and the boys also showed looks of fondness.
It was no wonder everyone liked Little Qing. In both worlds, Little Qing’s hunting behavior continuously eliminated evil, unnatural creatures, earning the favor of the natural consciousness.
As a result, even though Little Qing’s Battle Mode grew to be more menacing than a basilisk, its everyday appearance became increasingly adorable. Its scales were as green as emerald, glistening like finely carved gems. Coupled with its cute round head and cat-like eyes that resembled precious gemstones, it looked like a beautiful gemstone sculpture. No wonder it was so lovable.
"What abilities does this snake have?" someone asked. It seemed they hadn’t recognized Little Qing’s plant mutant identity and instead thought it was a special snake.
"It can grow to eight meters in battle mode and is venomous", Liam said, enjoying their misunderstanding and subtly misleading them.
"Alright, since everyone has their Nature Companion, let’s head to Banyan Pit today to clear it out", the oldest student said. With everyone’s agreement, the seven of them set off.
On the way, a boy explained to Liam about Banyan Pit. It was a large sinkhole near the school in the Emerald Dream, famous for a giant banyan tree inside. It had once been a site for dark wizards to perform blood sacrifices, but the Castrobrusso ancestors had cleared out those evil wizards. However, due to the prolonged blood sacrifices, the Emerald Dream in that area had transformed into a mutated Nether Dream, occasionally spawning evil, uncontrollable undead.
Since the undead in that area weren’t particularly strong unless they accumulated, it later became an adventure spot for students in the Emerald Dream. According to the predecessors, each student’s soul strength would increase after defeating those undead.
Crossing the river that surrounded the school, they walked for a few minutes and saw Banyan Pit. In the Emerald Dream, the blood-red light rising from it was very noticeable.
Upon closer inspection, Liam found that Banyan Pit was a sinkhole over 200 meters in diameter. Various trees grew below the sky, but upon closer inspection, one could see human bone fragments embedded in the trees and the ground. Faint red shadows flickered within the sinkhole. Using his Eagle Eye, Liam detected a repulsive undead aura emanating from the shadows.
"What are those?" Liam asked, pointing at the blood-red shadows.
"Ah, those are Shadows of Death. Besides the Emerald Dream, there is another realm called the Netherworld. Unlike the true afterlife, the Netherworld is the opposite of the Emerald Dream, filled with death and chaos. A portal to the Netherworld was opened here, allowing some of the Shadows of Death to slip through. To prevent them from gathering and harming the Emerald Dream, we regularly come here to clear them out."
"Alright, we’re here. Let’s go down", the oldest boy said. Liam followed everyone down the giant vine, which resembled a small pagoda, to the bottom of the pit.
Once at the bottom, everyone, led by the team leader, slowly approached the Shadows of Death. Liam was positioned behind the leader, a consideration for newcomers. Since Liam had never encountered these before, being behind the leader ensured his safety and allowed him to observe how others handled the Shadows of Death, helping him learn quickly.
