Chapter 162: The Song of Prophecy
Chapter 162: The Song of Prophecy
High above, an unseen eye watched over the entire realm.
Except for the apartment where Sif and the others resided, every living being and animal within the realm had lost their lives, frozen in place. Their faces retained their expressions, but their bodies were rigid and unmoving. The eyes, whether open or closed, had an eerie quality that triggered a sense of uncanny valley, making each life form resemble lifelike mannequins. This was a false utopia.
All the life within the realm was created by a clone technique, and all the mannequins served these three individuals. When the three rested, the false city would also come to a halt, giving Luk, who controlled multiple mannequins, a moment of respite.
Luk's gaze focused on the only place with signs of life, where Sif had laid out a blanket and was sleeping on the floor, allowing Thor and Mjolnir to sleep in the bed. His feelings were complex.
Letting the one he cared about sleep with his hammer while he took the floor, Sif exuded a beauty akin to Liu Cixin starting a new novel.
Considering she was an Asgardian warrior working on a construction site, it felt even more sci-fi.
A sudden, emotional question popped into his mind, "Do you think the love we've orchestrated is real?"
Loki, looking down at everything below, countered, "Would you think a woman attracted by your high charisma score doesn't truly love you?"
Luk was speechless.
He knew that following the game in a galgame would lead to success, but how was he supposed to understand this!
"Don't think too much about it. It's just business," Loki said calmly, watching Thor. "I give you the reward, you make Sif's desires come true, Thor will have a companion, and Mjolnir can briefly experience the joy of being human."
"Everyone will have a happy ending."
"Only Jane gets hurt, but that's fine."
"If she never met Thor, she would have led a peaceful life. That's not bad," Loki said matter-of-factly. "Besides, don't you think everything after the third phase of Marvel is a mess? A female Thor is unnecessary."
"No, I think a female Thor as Natasha is pretty good," Luk's face turned pale. "And WandaVision and your script were quite good, especially you!"
"Thank you for the compliment," Loki said with a half-smile. "Since you think WandaVision is so good, why do you still want to take Wanda away?"
Luk pondered for a moment, "The Scarlet Witch's power will help me defeat Dormammu, and the Mind Stone too. Besides, I won't die."
"What makes you think you won't die?"
Loki gave a mysterious smile, making Luk shiver.
The God of Stories didn't make baseless claims; there was clearly something to it, but he quickly calmed down.
Now it was Loki's turn to be a bit surprised, "Aren't you worried?"
"From your attitude towards me, it's clear you know my future self. If my future self is a transcender, then logically, I can't die. At worst, I'll have some trouble."
"You haven't been stupid enough to die yet."
Loki shook his head regretfully.
...
6:00 AM.
Sif packed her gear and left two hundred dollars for Thor and Mjolnir as living expenses before tiptoeing out of the apartment.
There was a lot of work at the construction site today, so she needed to get started before the sun came up, or the bricks would be too hot to handle!
After yesterday's discussion, they had a preliminary plan. Sif would work to earn money for their daily needs, while Thor would investigate a way to return to Asgard.
As for Mjolnir, he was just a hammer and should stay at home, as his silver color was too conspicuous.
Thor didn't wake up until 9:00 AM. He rubbed his groggy head, feeling his body was heavier and slower to recover, and he was more easily fatigued.
Not seeing Sif or Mjolnir, he was a bit worried and quickly went downstairs. He saw Mjolnir sitting in front of a machine with a young boy, around thirteen or fourteen, from the landlord's family.
Curiously, he moved closer to see what was happening. On the screen, a monkey wielding a staff was fighting a tiger.
" Dodge! Dodge! Is the immobilize spell off cooldown yet?"
"Ah, I got sliced again. Are you even good at this?"
Mjolnir reluctantly put down the controller, his eyes lighting up when he saw Thor.
"Thor, get me a computer!"
"Is this machine a computer?" Thor looked at the monkey being repeatedly defeated, feeling a bit itchy to play himself.
"I'll talk to Sif about it later. Hey, kid, do you want me to help you with this tiger?"
The boy looked at him as if he were a mental patient and turned to his new friend, "Miao Miao, is your brother any good?"
"Miao Miao?"
Thor repeated the name in confusion.
"Brother Lu said my name was strange, so he gave me a new one."
Mjolnir explained, "Ah, right, this is Lu Ruan, my new big brother. He's the landlord's son, Lu Ban. The security guard we met yesterday is Lu Jie."
"You recognized him as your big brother?"
Thor frowned. How could Mjolnir, the treasure of Asgard and the chosen weapon for the throne, be so easily swayed?
"How can I play games if I don't recognize him as my big brother!"
Mjolnir blushed a bit, his silver face turning red, "When Sif buys us a computer, I'll..."
"Hmm?"
The boy named "Lu Ruan" raised an eyebrow.
"Whether or not we get a computer, Brother Ruan will always be Brother Ruan!"
Mjolnir declared his loyalty and handed the controller to Thor.
"Come on, Thor, give it a try. Let Brother Lu see the might of a Thunder God."
Thirty seconds later.
Thor frowned and put down the controller. "I just got my first taste of this controller. I'm not very familiar with it yet. Give me a bit more time to get used to it."
Ten minutes later.
"I'm almost there. I'm just one step away from defeating this tiger."
Twenty minutes later.
"You insolent tiger, how dare you mock the son of Odin!"
Thirty minutes later.
"Mjolnir, turn back into a hammer. I’m going in to fight this tiger to the death!"
"Don’t say something that’s impossible!"
Mjolnir looked pitiful. He wished he could control his transformations, but he couldn’t. He could sense his power, but using it seemed to lock him in hammer form forever.
An hour later.
Thor put down the controller, which he had nearly destroyed, with a serious expression. "I have a mission to investigate this city. Mjolnir, stay at home and don’t go out."
He had barely taken two steps when a shadow covered his body.
Thor: ( ° ʖ °)
Lu Jie: (。_。)
"Mr. Thor, you don’t expect to just run away after breaking something, do you?"
"Send the bill to Sif. She has the money!"
Thor silently prayed that the broken items weren’t too expensive as he left the apartment, feeling awkward for the first time in his life as a prince of Asgard.
Lu Jie took out a bill for 188 yuan, glanced at Lu Ran, and instantly understood. He added a zero to the end of the number.
1880.
Since the prices in this world were set by Lu Ke, they could be changed. They had to squeeze every last bit of money out of Sif to make a bigger impact on Thor.
...
Leaving the apartment, Thor spent some time familiarizing himself with the city's technology. He adapted quickly, as Asgard’s technology was on par with, if not superior to, this world’s. Asgard simply preferred cold weapons and had a simpler approach to civilian tech.
In truth, Asgard’s energy shields, battle ships, and the Bifrost were all highly advanced technologies.
Thor chose a deserted alley and waited. Soon, a seemingly ordinary office worker "happened" to pass by and was ambushed by Thor, who covered his eyes from behind.
"I ask, you answer. Answer my questions honestly!"
The office worker trembled in fear and nodded frantically. "I will, I will! Ask me anything!"
"Where are we? Is this Midgard?"
"Midgard? No, this is Utopia on Blue Star."
"Blue Star, Utopia?" Thor furrowed his brow. "How far is Asgard from here?"
"I’ve never heard of Asgard."
Thor’s frown deepened. Thinking of the important figures in Midgard, he asked, "Have you heard of the Supreme Sorcerer?"
"No, we only know of the seven great guardians."
"Seven great guardians?"
"Yes," the man said with a look of admiration.
"The Divine Blacksmith, the Celestial Spirit King, the Sword Sage, the Shape-shifting Beast, the Storm Dragon, the Elden King, and the Nameless One. These seven guardians work in secret to fight against the evil Frost Tide."
"Frost Tide?"
Thor pondered the term, then asked, "What is the Storm Dragon?"
This term reminded him of the majestic dragon he had seen dancing in the storm during his battle with Lu Ke. The elegant and divine figure had left a lasting impression on him.
"I’m not sure. It’s a prophecy that circulates in the city."
"Recite it for me."
"Sure."
The man nodded and recited the prophecy in a singing tone.
"Go back, go back, go back."
"Prophetic child from afar, this is a disaster you cannot face."
"The Frost Tide is coming, and the giant with the magic box will freeze the earth."
"The Divine Blacksmith’s blade is stained with frost, the Sky King falls to protect, the Sword Sage is betrayed, and the Storm Dragon withers in the ice."
"The falling leaves bring a message, the Elden King entrusts his mission, and the Nameless One remains hidden."
"The scales tip, the world turns upside down. Survival or destruction, everything depends on you."
The amount of information was overwhelming!
Thor’s brow furrowed. Thinking was not his strong suit, so he asked the man to repeat it several times, forcing himself to memorize the words.
If only Loki were here. He always had the best ideas.
Thor sighed. His sudden disappearance from Asgard would worry many.
On the surface, Asgard without him seemed the same, but in reality...
Asgard without him was barely holding on!
