Chapter 1614: A War with No Victors (64)
Chapter 1614: A War with No Victors (64)
"He's never known the struggles of poverty."
A voice drifted into the ears of the group, and they turned to see Isabel emerging from the back room of the shop, carrying a wooden box. She nodded in greeting and continued, "He always finds a way to ensure he never has to worry about money."
Isabel opened the box and, with a gentle wave of her wand, caused several exquisitely packaged beauty potions to arrange themselves neatly on the shelves.
"What about the idea for the formula I suggested last time?" Katherine asked eagerly.
"He said the effects were similar to existing ones, so he didn't bother spending time and energy on improving it," Isabel dashed the hopes of the trio.
"I thought that idea had potential," Valerie replied with disappointment. "Even if the effects are similar, we could make slight adjustments and expand our product line. We could make a lot of money that way. You should convince him to help us, Isabel. It would be easy for Albert."
"I would never force Albert to do something he doesn't want to do," Isabel said as she sat in the empty seat next to Katrina. "That's a sure way to be disliked."
"Okay, you're right," Katherine conceded, a bit glumly. "So, how do we persuade him to spare some time to help us speed up our research on beauty potions?"
"Albert has been helping us," Katrina interjected. "There are currently two ideas we're exploring."
"What ideas?" the trio asked in unison, their gazes shifting to Katrina and then to Isabel.
"Using alchemy to create more potent beauty potions, similar to the Sorcerer's Stone's elixir of life, which requires regular consumption to maintain one's youthful appearance," Isabel explained Albert's first idea. "Of course, this is still in the research phase, and when we'll have a successful outcome depends on luck."
The group couldn't help but feel a little let down. While Isabel's words piqued their interest, the mention of luck made the prospect seem vague and uncertain. It could be today, this year, or even much later—perhaps not in their lifetimes.
"And the second idea?" Louise asked, her hopes waning.
"Using potions to slowly condition the body and delay the onset of aging," Katrina replied promptly. "However, the effects are so gradual that it's hard to tell if it's working."
"So, there are results with the second idea?"
Katherine was certain that Albert had discovered something.
"Do you remember 'Youth and Love'?"
"What's that?"
The three women exchanged glances, clearly having forgotten about the magical wine.
"It's a potion that can delay aging," Isabel explained.
"A potion that can truly delay aging?"
The trio stared at Isabel in amazement as she waved her wand, causing a bottle of ruby-red magical wine to appear before them.
"This..."
Katherine and Valerie now remembered what it was. Although they had found it unusual at the time, they hadn't expected it to have anti-aging properties.
"To be honest, we're not sure if it's effective," Isabel said with a mischievous smile. "But Albert has improved the formula several times, and now that we can produce larger quantities, we drink a small cup every few days."
She knew that the three women wouldn't be able to resist this temptation.
Any beauty-conscious young woman would find it irresistible.
"Does it really work?"
The sound of swallowing saliva filled the room.
"I don't know, but Albert rarely lies, and I can't think of a reason why he would deceive us," Katrina admitted, her emotions complex. She knew that the three beautiful women before her had taken the bait, and it was only a matter of time before they were hooked.
“Are you really willing to share the formula with us?” Katherine asked, well aware that if 'Youth and Love' truly had the effects Isabel claimed, countless people would go crazy for it.
"Benefits should always come with a price, don't you think?" Isabel easily manipulated the trio, "But the condition is that you can only drink it yourselves and must not spread it to others."
"Alright, it's a bit disappointing, but that would indeed save us a lot of trouble." Louise could understand why Albert didn't plan to sell 'Youth and Love'.
This potion would likely be very expensive, and with its slow-acting effects, it could easily be labeled as a scam. Even if it worked, it might attract even bigger troubles.
Those influential pure-blood wizards would probably stop at nothing to get their hands on it.
"I remember the welcome banquet is supposed to be in the evening, right?" Valerie suddenly said, "If there's nothing else, why don't you take us to the manor you mentioned first? We need to rest up."
Speaking of the evening's banquet, the girls' expressions varied, and both Isabel and Katrina noticed.
After all, the evening's welcome banquet wasn't to welcome them to Britain, but to welcome the trio as Albert's lovers, and the process was quite "horrifying."
"We'll probably have to wait a bit longer. Mrs. Primpeniel should be arriving soon." Isabel glanced at the wall clock and said, "Let's convince her first, and then we'll take you there... Look, she's here."
At the entrance of the Witch Beauty Shop, a middle-aged witch appeared as quietly as a ghost.
"Good morning."
Mrs. Primpeniel looked at the beautiful girls in the Witch Beauty Shop and stammered.
"Welcome, Mrs. Primpeniel." Isabel didn't give the other party a chance to speak and directly introduced them, "These two are Katherine and Valerie, the founders of the American Witch Beauty Shop."
"Nice to meet you, I'm Katherine, in charge of the American region." Katherine offered a professional smile and greeted the middle-aged witch before her.
"I'm Valerie, usually in charge of the shop's operations." The blonde girl smiled and greeted her as well.
"I'm Louise, owner of the French Witch Beauty Shop, and I'm in charge of the French and surrounding regions." Louise also took the initiative to greet the middle-aged witch, surprising Mrs. Primpeniel.
"You..." Mrs. Primpeniel opened her mouth and finally asked, "Isn't this a branch of the Witch Beauty Shop?"
"Sort of, but only in name. We've divided our respective regions." Katrina explained to Mrs. Primpeniel, "Since we opened the British store relatively late, we're only left with the Nordic and Eastern European regions."
"Okay, you win. How much can I get?" Mrs. Primpeniel's willingness to meet with them was already an indication of her agreement.
"10% or 20%." Isabel handed over two contracts to Mrs. Primpeniel, "If you don't mind being busier, you can get a decent salary and 20% of the shares of this store."
"You can take your time to consider and don't rush into a decision."
"I'm actually more curious. Since you can do better, why bother bringing me in?" Mrs. Primpeniel was surprised by their generosity.
"There's always more money to be made, and we don't want to spend too much time on this." Isabel said calmly, "Opening this store is more to give ourselves something to do, but regardless, we need to find a reliable person in charge."
To be honest, Mrs. Primpeniel had never expected to hear such an answer.
