"Brother, let it go. You know he's not right in the head. Come, have a smoke to calm down."
In the critical moment, the tough police officer who had gone to the bathroom returned, stopping the other officer's actions. He tried to calm the elegant officer while subtly nodding at Thor.
"Thor Odinson, someone has come to bail you out. You can go now."
Outside the police station, the sound of a motorcycle echoed. A woman with delicate features, dark skin, and wearing tattered clothes, a yellow helmet, and a safety belt, rushed in, covered in dust.
As she rushed in, she shouted loudly.
"Thor! Don't be afraid, I'm here to take you home!"
Seeing a woman enter, Thor awkwardly crouched down, covering his private parts. He looked at the woman in confusion. "Who are you?"
The woman took off her helmet, revealing a clear forehead that contrasted sharply with her sunburned and dusty face. Dirt and small pebbles fell from her hair as she shook her head.
"It's me, Sif, Thor."
Thor's eyes widened. "Sif, what happened to you!"
He looked at the disheveled and pitiful Sif, struggling to believe this was the same beautiful and powerful Asgardian warrior he remembered.
"We can talk about it later."
Sif clearly felt ashamed of her appearance. She bit her lip. "For now, I work on a construction site, mixing concrete."
Thor stood there, at a loss for words.
"I do day labor, earning two hundred a day, with lunch included!"
"I don't understand."
"You will, in time." Sif sighed. "Officer, I want to bail this person out."
"Are you a family member?"
"Yes, I am his lover."
Thor opened his mouth to protest but saw the look Sif gave him and closed it again.
"Your husband streaked in the street and painted a child silver for cosplay. Did you know that?"
Sif: ?!?
She looked at Thor with a questioning gaze. Thor, unsure how to explain, finally told the truth.
"Mjolnir turned into a human, and I didn't react in time."
"Let's talk about it when we get home." Sif sighed, understanding the chaos Thor might have faced in this new world.
"Officer, how much is Thor's bail?"
"Ten million."
The tough officer casually interjected, but seeing the despair on Sif's face, he quickly corrected himself.
"I mean, a thousand!"
"Phew~"
Sif finally relaxed, pulling out a stack of money from her pocket. She counted it several times before reluctantly handing over ten bills to the tough officer.
"Thank you, officer, thank you. I'll take him now."
Sif pulled Thor to leave, but a voice from the next cell interrupted them.
"Thor, I'm still here! Get me out too!"
Sif looked surprised. "Thor, who is that?"
"I told you, Mjolnir turned into a human." Thor rubbed his temples, equally exasperated by the situation.
"Officer, I'll bail him out too!"
"Is he also a family member?"
"Yes, he's Thor's cousin!"
"You two really know how to have fun."
The tough officer couldn't help but clap, amused by the husband and cousin causing a scene, and the wife coming to bail them out.
"Make it fifty berries... I mean, fifty dollars."
Mjolnir, now free, walked out of the interrogation room with a sour expression. "Why is Thor's bail a thousand, and mine only fifty? My value is at least three times his!"
"You can pay more if you want." The tough officer offered, extending his hand to Sif. "How about three thousand for the kid?"
Sif pulled a pack of cigarettes from her pocket, offering one with a smile. "The child doesn't know better. Please be lenient."
"I don't smoke." The tough officer shook his head but then relented. "Fine, here, one for you. I'm just feeling sorry for you. You can go."
"Thank you, officer, thank you."
Sif nodded in gratitude, pulling the two troublemakers out of the police station.
Once the three of them disappeared around the corner, the two officers resumed their true forms.
"How did you make Sif look like that?"
Loki couldn't help but feel a bit uncomfortable. Sif, one of the Four Warriors of Asgard, was his idea of a perfect partner.
Lu Ke stroked his chin. "I didn't do anything special. Everything in this realm is a one-to-one recreation of my own experiences."
A pure representation of the social work conditions in the first half of 2024.
He thought Sif, with her qualifications, would easily find a nine-to-five job with weekends off and a monthly salary over ten thousand. He never expected her to end up mixing concrete on a construction site.
...
After leaving the police station, Sif's posture straightened. She ignored the odd looks from passersby, doubled the fare to convince the driver, and crammed the two bare-bottomed men into the car.
She then bought a set of matching clothes from a street vendor, a larger one for Thor and a smaller one for Mjolnir, to cover their modesty.
Thor dressed quickly, but Mjolnir was reluctant. He had never heard of dressing a hammer before!
"You have two choices: I can throw you out now, or you can put on the clothes."
Sif glared at the disobedient hammer, rolled up her sleeves, and seemed ready to toss the intruders out.
Mjolnir pouted and put on his clothes, "Just so you know, you're in trouble now. You can forget about ever touching this hammer again!"
"I don't care!" Sif turned her head away in disgust, "Only a sycophant like Loki would be happy to give you a good face."
The car suddenly jolted, and the driver scratched his head with a smile, "Sorry, the tire just blew. You'd better get out. I won't charge you for the ride."
"Damn! When things go wrong, they really go wrong!"
Sif, with a cold expression, led the two men out of the car. They walked for over an hour before stopping in front of an old, somewhat dilapidated building.
The security guard was a towering figure, nearly three meters tall, with a handsome and commanding presence.
Security Guard: (。_。)
Sif, Thor, Mjolnir: (゜ー゜)
"Is this your relative, Sif?"
"Yes, they'll be staying with me from now on."
"Better get inside quickly. The landlord might see you."
Sif nodded and was about to go upstairs when a thirteen- or fourteen-year-old boy appeared at the stairwell, hands on his hips.
"Hey, the trash collector's back. How much did you earn today?" The boy glanced at Thor and Mjolnir.
"Haha, another big dummy and a little sandbag."
"Uh-oh, the landlord's toxic kid." Sif's face paled, but then she saw the tall security guard grab the boy and flick his forehead.
"Don't be so rude."
"You hit me again, you moron! You think you can get away with anything just because you have some muscle. Today, either you die or I do!"
"Your mouth is as dirty as ever, and your crimes haven't been forgotten yet."
The security guard raised his fist, not backing down.
The two began to confront each other, and Sif took the opportunity to pull Thor and Mjolnir up the stairs, slamming the door shut behind them.
"Phew~ We're safe."
Only then did Sif let out a sigh of relief and find a chair to sit in, exhausted.
The apartment was about thirty square meters, a one-bedroom, one-living-room, one-bathroom place. The lighting was average, and the space was mostly empty, with only a television, a bed, a table, and a wardrobe.
Thor frowned at the environment, "Can you explain now? Where are we, and why are you here, Sif?"
"I'm not sure. I remember the morning after your victory celebration, I was planning to do something, and suddenly I found myself here."
Sif calmed herself, "This seems to be Midgard, but it's different from the Midgard we visited before. The technology here seems to have developed well over the past few centuries."
"Moreover, it seems to suppress our powers. I'm just a strong woman now. The other night, I was ambushed by some thugs on my way home. I only managed to knock out a dozen of them before the rest ran away. I couldn't stop them."
"At least you're better than Thor. He fainted after taking down just three of them!"
Mjolnir chimed in, gloating.
Thor looked embarrassed, "They had weapons. If it were just hand-to-hand, I would have done better."
"Tell me a joke: the Thunder God got electrocuted."
"How long have you been here?"
Unable to argue with Mjolnir and unwilling to hit him, Thor changed the subject.
"A month."
Sif's voice was heavy, "At first, I was wandering the streets. The landlord of this building is kind and took me in. He even agreed to let me stay for free this month and gave me some money to find a job."
"So you started working as a cleaner?"
"Not just that. I also did manual labor like carrying bricks, mixing cement, and reinforcing structures."
Sif's voice grew softer, her tone tinged with sadness.
Thor seemed a bit confused, "You're such a skilled warrior. How could you not find a good job?"
"Because I have no education, no work experience, and I'm over thirty-five!"
Sif, a thousand-year-old woman, her eyes gradually moistened, as if she was on the verge of breaking down.
"I didn't want it to be this way. The interviewers asked me all sorts of difficult questions. All I know how to do is fight. When I applied for a security job, they only wanted men. When I finally got a job, the pay was low, and I was harassed by my colleagues. I couldn't even fight back without getting arrested!"
"Don't cry."
Thor stepped forward and hugged Sif, "Be strong, Sif. You're a warrior of Asgard."
Sif took a few deep breaths, preparing to speak, when she suddenly heard a rumbling sound.
"Um, I'm a bit hungry." Thor scratched his head, embarrassed.
"Me too!"
Mjolnir rubbed his stomach, his face showing surprise, "So that's what it feels like to be hungry. I learned something new!"
"I'll get you some food."
Sif wiped away her tears, left the two useless men behind, and returned a short while later with a bag full of food.
Mjolnir "woof"ed and rushed forward, pulling out two large and small containers, "What are these?"
"Kang Shuai Fu and Lei Bi."
"I like the name Lei Bi!"
