Chapter 1608: A War Without Victors (Fifty-Eight)
Chapter 1608: A War Without Victors (Fifty-Eight)
"Indeed, the conflict between the two sides has come to an end, or else it wouldn't have gone underground."
Harry had seen this coming from the very beginning and had anticipated the current situation.
"How did things turn out this way? The Second Wizarding War has just ended, can't people be allowed some peace?" Ginny muttered.
"Actually, I'm more puzzled by what those who sided with Voldemort are thinking," Ron said, finding it incomprehensible that the pure-bloods would directly confront Kingsley like this, which seemed like a suicide mission.
"What they want is different from what we want," a familiar voice suddenly sounded in the living room.
Everyone looked up and saw Mr. Weasley, holding a cup of hot cocoa, walking towards them with Mrs. Weasley.
"Dad, what do you think they want?" Ron asked directly.
"They want to use Muggles as hostages to force Kingsley to compromise," Mr. Weasley said softly. "They also believe that Kingsley will definitely compromise because he is only the acting minister and will prioritize stabilizing the current situation to avoid losing his position."
"Are they out of their minds?" Ron exclaimed, unable to understand. "Why would they think Kingsley would compromise to those Death Eaters?"
Mrs. Weasley frowned and corrected him, "They aren't Death Eaters."
"What they're doing is no different from Death Eaters," Harry said, shaking his head and looking at Mr. Weasley. He was also curious about what those people were thinking and how they could do something so foolish.
"After all, Kingsley is still just temporary. The Ministry of Magic is still controlled by 'pure-blood' wizards, which is also a manifestation of the power of most pure-blood wizards and is more important to them than Bagnold. Remember the court case involving Hagrid's hippogriff?
So, they can't accept being driven out of the Ministry of Magic just like that. It would be an unacceptable loss for them, so they want to take a gamble."
As a pure-blood himself, Mr. Weasley understood their mindset.
"Even if they lose in the end, the situation won't be worse than it is now. There has never been a case of all pure-bloods being eradicated in the British wizarding world."
"But that's what the Dark Wizards did," Ginny reminded him.
Mr. Weasley sighed. "After the end of the First Wizarding War, Minister for Magic Millicent Bagnold also encountered a similar situation." "She eventually chose to compromise, which allowed many Death Eaters to escape justice."
"I think Kingsley should thoroughly settle the score with them," Ron said, exchanging a glance with Harry. "Even if the situation is worse than what Minister Bagnold faced."
"It's not about settling scores, but making them disappear completely," Harry said, his words startling. "Those people have already crossed the line."
"Have you received some inside information?" Mr. Weasley asked, looking at Harry in surprise.
"I can't think of any reason for them to continue living," Harry replied.
"Most pure-bloods won't allow Kingsley to wipe out an entire pure-blood family," Mr. Weasley reminded him. "There are a limited number of pure-blood wizards in Britain, and they won't let their precious bloodline be lost. That's the real reason those people dare to act this way."
"They have a lot of enemies, and not everyone cares about what you mentioned. As for the laws of the Ministry of Magic, they are useless," Harry said meaningfully.
It wasn't that Harry deliberately disregarded the law, but that was the reality at the moment.
"Regardless, Kingsley won't compromise with Voldemort's supporters. Even if he wanted to, he wouldn't dare to, unless he wanted to be abandoned by everyone," Harry said, knowing more than most people because he was personally involved in the whole affair.
"Most importantly, Kingsley isn't worried about losing, nor is he concerned about his position as acting minister, because..."
"...because Albert won't allow Kingsley to lose."
Hermione suddenly interjected, "You could say that Kingsley's supporters are actually Albert, or the group led by Albert."
It was Sirius who had informed Harry about this matter.
"If you have to say it, Kingsley was put in place by Albert," he said.
"Put in place?" Mr. Weasley found this statement intriguing.
"Albert predicted Kingsley's rise to the position of Minister a long time ago," Harry explained. "It was evident from Percy's appointments as senior assistants to several ministers."
"Do you think Kingsley is doing this under Anderson's instructions?" Ron found this notion preposterous.
"It's more like something Albert is pleased to see happening," Harry shook his head. "I even think he convinced Neilson. Due to the Umbridge incident, Kingsley has lost all credibility with that group. Even I wouldn't be able to persuade those hate-filled individuals."
"So, the mastermind behind the scenes is Albert Anderson," Ron exclaimed, his eyes wide.
"What are you thinking? Albert is probably just going with the flow," Hermione glanced at Ron and shared what she knew. "I've talked to him about this. Albert said that this outcome is what everyone wanted, whether it's Kingsley, the group that sided with Voldemort, or those filled with hatred. He never intended to get involved because it would only bring him trouble. He preferred to stay quiet and let things unfold, and the outcome is likely what he wanted. I guess those pure-blood families won't fare well."
"Those pure-blood families that have been causing trouble will most likely face extinction," Harry said, causing everyone present to swallow nervously.
"Isn't that a bit too..." Mrs. Weasley was shocked beyond words.
"After all, many families have been torn apart and devastated by the Death Eaters. Such hatred cannot be erased with a few words..."
Hermione couldn't comprehend why some people believed that victims would simply forget their grudges.
"...Not even Kingsley dares to touch this issue. Otherwise, he might have ended up like Minister Bagnold, compromising and taking his time to slowly resolve these problems instead of directly confronting the Death Eaters from the start and making a mess of things," Hermione added.
Everyone began to understand why Albert chose to stay out of it.
If they were in his position, they would also keep their distance to avoid being inadvertently affected.
As the possible future was laid out, the expressions on everyone's faces became complex.
They all realized that this was a political struggle, and Kingsley was likely to be the ultimate winner, so there was no need to worry about him.
If they didn't want to be dragged into this political struggle and end up as cannon fodder, it was best to stay away.
Some things were better left untouched.
At some point, the topic of conversation quietly shifted to Harry and Ginny's wedding and Ginny's plans after they were married.
After all, once Ginny married Harry, she would drop out of Hogwarts, and it would be challenging to find a suitable job with just an O.W.L. certificate.
Being a full-time housewife at such a young age would undoubtedly be a trying experience.
"Fred and George said I could help out at their shop," Ginny wasn't too concerned about this. "It seems that once Avalon is completed, there will be many job opportunities, so there's no need to worry about employment."
The conversation then veered towards the ideal village under construction, especially when they learned that Albert had invested the bounty he received from Voldemort into building it, causing everyone to marvel at his financial prowess.
