Chapter 1603: A War with No Victors (Fifty-Three)
Chapter 1603: A War with No Victors (Fifty-Three)
"Let's go, Harry. It's not often that you visit Avalon, so let me show you around."
"Won't this disturb others who are working?"
Harry hesitated for a moment, still feeling that he shouldn't cause trouble for himself.
At the moment, everyone was busy working, and it just didn't feel right for them to be wandering around, after all, they were also a part of this community.
"Let's go find Hermione," he suggested.
The two exchanged a smile and, hand in hand, they walked towards the outskirts.
"Where are you two off to?"
Ron emerged from the tent, his mouth stuffed with egg cake, and jogged to catch up with the gradually distant couple, asking incoherently, "Are you sure it's alright not to stay inside?"
"The busiest time is over." Ginny glanced at Ron, her face full of disdain as she complained, "Can't you eat like a civilized person? No wonder Hermione has no interest in you."
Ron's expression froze, and he quickly pulled out a handkerchief from his pocket to wipe the cake crumbs from the corners of his mouth, quickening his pace to follow Harry and Ginny, unable to help but ask, "You've already talked to Hermione?"
"Yes, and she said she's not interested in you." Ginny was blunt in her coldness, "Also, it's better if you talk to Hermione about this yourself, otherwise, she might look down on you and think you're a coward who doesn't even have the courage to confess."
Harry felt that the situation was a bit ominous and quickly coughed loudly to change the subject, "What's that tower for?"
"That's the water tower, used to store well water and supply the entire village with running water. That way, everyone will be able to use tap water." Ginny added, "There are two of them."
"I know Hermione likes Albert, but Albert is already married." Ron mumbled, "They have no chance of being together."
"I think you should just give up. The way you are now, you don't stand a chance." Ginny suddenly stopped in her tracks, almost pointing her finger at Ron's nose.
Harry quickly reached out to stop the distracted Ron to prevent him from accidentally bumping into Ginny.
"Don't be like that, Ginny." Harry raised the tone of his voice.
"I'm just speaking the truth. If Ron keeps dragging this out, he'll only make Hermione dislike him more." Ginny was trying her best to control her emotions.
"Do you know something?"
Harry felt that Ginny's attitude towards Ron was very abnormal.
Hearing Harry's words, Ron's anger instantly dissipated, and he suddenly became apprehensive.
"I'd like to know the reason too," Harry encouraged in a soft voice, "or..."
"Hermione said that after giving up on Albert, she once considered Harry." Ginny hesitated for a moment but decided to help Hermione get rid of the big trouble that was Ron.
Yes, Ginny truly felt in her heart that Ron was not worthy of Hermione, at least not the current Ron.
"What does that have to do with me?"
Harry suddenly felt very uneasy and did not want to be dragged into this topic at all.
"Hermione knew a long time ago that there was no possibility between her and Albert, so she had considered finding herself a boyfriend." Ginny recalled.
"So, Hermione considered me?" Harry suddenly fell silent.
Because Ginny was right; if he and Hermione had wanted to develop their relationship in that direction, it would have been a highly probable event.
"You know, Hermione has had countless opportunities to become Harry's girlfriend." Ginny glanced at Ron with disdain, "But for some reasons, Hermione gave up on her own and gave the opportunity to me."
"Hermione likes Harry?"
Ron's eyes widened, unable to accept this cruel fact.
"They are good friends, very good friends." Ginny explained impatiently, "There are no purely platonic friendships between men and women in this world, and you two have experienced so much together. It would be normal for your relationship to gradually develop into a couple."
"This..."
"Aren't you trying to do the same?"
"Why did Hermione give up?" Ron couldn't help but ask.
Harry suddenly understood why Ginny disliked Ron.
Obviously, Hermione had shared these things with Ginny, and Ginny's feelings at that time must have been very complex.
"Hermione felt that Harry needed someone who could provide him with help and fight alongside him."
Ginny paid no heed to Ron and said softly, "Especially after learning from Albert that Harry would die at Voldemort's hands, she pinned her hopes on me, hoping that you would survive this war, and that love and children could bring about a miracle."
Harry and Ron fell silent.
"So, you have absolutely no chance." Ginny turned to Ron, her tone cold and indifferent, "At least in the next few years, if you don't try to change yourself, be careful that she subconsciously avoids you, and by then, you won't even be able to remain friends."
Ron was left speechless.
"Aren't you being a little too harsh?"
Seeing Ron standing there dumbfounded, Harry quickly caught up with Ginny.
"I'm just helping Ron see the reality, so he won't get hurt in the future." Ginny said scornfully, "It's really annoying when someone keeps pestering you. I can tell that Hermione told me these things because she wanted me to help her reject Ron, so that it wouldn't be awkward when they meet, and they could at least still be friends."
Harry turned to look at the dejected Ron trailing behind them and sighed. He didn't want their relationship as a trio to fall apart either.
The three of them arrived at a small hill near Avalon. There were no trees or other obstructions, and the view was exceptionally open.
Hermoine and Hagrid were testing the power supply equipment, and from a distance, they spotted the trio and waved at them with smiles.
"I thought I'd see a lot of solar panels here." Harry examined the spinning windmill columns erected by Hagrid, curious about how they generated electricity.
"We're planning to test wind power first."
Hermoine pointed to the row of lit-up lamps beside them and explained, "After all, there's no sun at night, and we need more electricity."
"But don't these things need wind?"
Harry didn't feel much of a breeze, yet the columns were spinning on their own, which seemed rather odd.
"Is there magic involved?" he asked tentatively.
"Yes, we're trying to convert motion magic into electrical energy. If we succeed, we'll be able to solve a lot of problems in one go." Hermoine smiled as she shared her idea.
"Is that even possible?"
The trio was astounded by Hermoine's bold idea.
"An ordinary wizard certainly couldn't pull it off, but Albert is the most powerful wizard in history. Who knows, he might just make it work. Even if the motion magic only lasts for a year or two, no, a few months would still be remarkable."
Initially, Hermoine had thought the idea was crazy, but Albert had already created too many miracles, and she was willing to give it a shot.
Looking at the confident smile on Hermoine's face, Harry suddenly understood what Ginny had meant.
The current Hermoine was like a completely different person compared to her student days. She had become more confident and even more beautiful, no longer neglecting her appearance as she used to.
Ron, standing beside her, had his eyes wide open in amazement.
"Ahem, Hagrid, what about the chicken farm you mentioned?"
Harry coughed loudly, bringing Ron back to his senses, and then awkwardly changed the subject.
"They're still discussing whether to keep them outdoors or build a house for them." Hagrid scratched his hair and said, "As you know, Albert is very skilled with the 'Trace-less Expansion Charm'. By enlarging the area of the house, we can create a large grassland for free-range."
"Then we won't need to feed them every day."
Ginny, who had experience feeding chickens at home, thought this was a good idea.
"Do we need to discuss this?" Ron asked, puzzled.
"The Ministry of Magic restricts the abuse of the 'Trace-less Expansion Charm'," Hermoine, who was more informed about this, explained to the trio, "To obtain legal permission, we might need to use some means. I guess Albert will make a deal with Kingsley and get the legitimate right to use it."
"Kingsley is indeed very accommodating." Ron's tone was peculiarly odd, "As expected, it's convenient to have someone from the inside as the Minister of Magic."
"It's a deal." Hermoine explained, "Remember the large sum of Voldemort's bounty that the Ministry of Magic owed Albert? If they don't want to pay up, they'll have to make concessions in other matters."
"So, is this considered bribery?"
"Who knows? Anyway, Albert said that there's no way to get that money, so if we don't use it to get some benefits, it would be a complete waste."
