Chapter 1602: A War with No Victors (Fifty-Two)
Chapter 1602: A War with No Victors (Fifty-Two)
As the end of June approached, the oppressive heat became the biggest hindrance to everyone's work. Even though most tasks only required a simple wave of their wands, working under the scorching sun was still unbearable, leading everyone to unanimously decide to shift their work to the coolest times of the day.
Thus, despite having to work hard until dusk, no one complained.
At this moment, on a gravel path outside Avalon, two tall figures suddenly appeared side by side, walking towards the village in the distance.
"It's rare that we get a break, but I somehow feel so uncomfortable!"
For some reason, Ron felt awkward every time he came to this village, and even wanted to turn around and leave.
"I'm sick of all the overtime anyway. It's been a disaster."
Harry, on the other hand, surveyed the surrounding scenery, amazed at the changes that had taken place.
"I remember when I came here before, this path wasn't paved with gravel, and the foundation of that house over there had just been laid."
"I wonder what deal Kingsley made with those guys."
Looking at the bustling village before them, Ron felt increasingly uneasy, even regretting that he had agreed to become an Auror instead of helping to build the village. Now, he felt like he had no place here.
"Harry! Ron!"
As the two walked along the gravel path towards the village, a tall figure on the nearby hill waved at them, his back to the setting sun.
"Hagrid, what are you doing here?"
Harry looked at the giant approaching them, surprised to see Hagrid here when he should have been at Hogwarts.
"I figured there wasn't much to do at Hogwarts, so I thought I'd come lend a hand. It's livelier here, and..." Hagrid patted his chest, "...Albert could use my help, and I wanted to do something for him. Can't always be him helping me, right?"
"What kind of help?" Ron mumbled.
"We've planted a lot of fruit trees over there and are planning a chicken farm. You know, I've raised roosters at school, so I'm familiar with that sort of thing." Hagrid didn't seem to mind Ron's tone as he smiled and asked, "Hermione said you two were coming to see Harry's new house?"
"Oh, yeah, we're just resting, so we thought we'd come and see how the village is coming along." Harry replied honestly.
"You must be surprised by the changes." Hagrid walked ahead, leading the way for the two.
"It feels like this place has changed so much." Harry marveled quietly, "The last time I was here, there was almost nothing."
"This place changes every day."
Hagrid led Harry and Ron to the almost-completed house.
"It's been such a short time, and it's nearly finished."
Looking at the villa's basic structure, the two were amazed at everyone's efficiency.
"Albert said this one's a show home. The finished product will definitely meet your expectations."
Looking at the house before him, Harry hesitated for a long time before asking, "How much longer do you think it'll take?"
"Not long now. It'll definitely be done before your wedding, but if you want to move in right after the wedding, you'll need to spend some time and energy on the interior decoration." Hagrid paused, as if remembering something, and advised, "I suggest you find time to talk to Albert and sort out all the details at once, so it doesn't delay your wedding plans."
"It does remind me of Harry's Muggle uncle's place, it's so neat and tidy." Ron's tone was sour as he quickly changed the subject, "By the way, Hagrid, where's Hermione?"
"Oh, Hermione," Hagrid raised his hand and pointed to the outskirts of the village, "She's probably over there fiddling with those Muggle gadgets of hers. Albert seems to want to bring..."
"...electricity here," Harry finished the sentence.
"Yeah, that's it, I think. I don't really understand all that Muggle stuff." Hagrid scratched his head.
"Has she been working on that all this time?"
Ron was puzzled as to why a wizarding village would need Muggle electricity, and he knew that it could interfere with magic.
"Yes, she said almost no one understands how to set it up, so Albert had to rely on her."
On their way to the rest tent, Hagrid mentioned some of the things Hermione had been working on, "Hermione uses electricity to light these things called..."
"...lightbulbs," Harry supplied.
"Yeah, lightbulbs. They're brighter than oil lamps, and there's this other thing that spins, which helps keep things cool in the summer."
Hagrid stopped in front of the tent, pointing at the nearby solar panels and the spinning windmill, "Those two things generate the electricity. Muggles are always coming up with odd inventions. Well, the entrance to this tent is a bit narrow, so I won't go in. See you later."
After bidding them farewell, Hagrid left.
"Sounds like Albert wants to turn this place into an ideal village." Harry marveled quietly.
As the two entered the tent, they were greeted by a large rotating fan. Not far from the tent entrance, Ginny sat at a desk, busy with something.
Hearing the footsteps, Ginny instinctively looked up and, seeing Harry and Ron, stood up in surprise, "What are you doing here?"
"Kingsley gave us some time off, so Ron and I thought we'd come and see." Harry stepped forward and hugged his fiancee.
"Finally, Kingsley's giving you two a break." Ginny kissed Harry, her tone filled with resentment.
"The food here is amazing."
Ron, eyeing the various sweets on the table, couldn't help but comment, "Are these all made by Dobby?"
"The house-elves from Hogwarts are helping out too." Ginny glanced at the annoying guy next to her and said, "Help yourself if you want any. There's tea, milk tea, or butterbeer over there. Help yourself."
"Albert's certainly generous. I bet he'd have a bestselling sweet shop if he opened one." Ron took a bite of an authentic red bean pastry and offered another to Harry, his mouth full as he said, "Try this, it's way better than the last one we had at home."
"Shut up and eat your food." Ginny glared at Ron, annoyed that he was criticizing her cooking.
"Is the work here tiring?" Harry quickly changed the subject.
"Not at all. Most of the time, it's quite relaxed. The only nuisance is how easy it is to put on weight with all these temptations around." Ginny looked disdainfully at Ron, who was devouring the delicious treats, and pulled Harry towards the tent entrance, not wanting to stay with that embarrassing guy any longer.
