The days passed as usual, with the regular weekend combat practice and the usual daily routine of classes. The only difference was that, at Hermione's request, Liam began teaching the Patronus Charm during combat practice.
The Patronus Charm is indeed an advanced spell. Even Hermione, a genius who could cast spells just by reading textbooks, found it challenging. After two days of practice, she could only produce thin wisps of silver smoke, indicating that she still had a long way to go before reaching a practical level.
Days went by, one by one, until Friday after lunch, when Liam returned to the dormitory and heard Hermione knocking on the door.
Fortunately, she didn't barge in this time. Liam, thinking about this, walked to the door to open it.
The door opened, and Liam saw Hermione standing outside with a serious expression, holding a thick notebook.
"What's this?" After they both sat down, Liam pointed to the notebook Hermione had placed on the table.
"This is the information I gathered from the Library after hearing what you said last week about Muggle-born wizards, Muggles, and Pure-blood wizards." Hermione opened the notebook, which was filled with neat, closely written notes.
"Thanks to Castrobrusso being an international school, the Library has a wealth of information from around the world. From these sources, I found some insights I had never considered before." Hermione looked at her notes as she spoke to Liam.
"In fact, the status of Muggle-born wizards and Muggles has improved compared to the past. For example, a few decades ago, Rappaport's Law in the New World region prohibited marriages between Muggles and wizards. In Britain, wizards who wanted to marry Muggles had to give up their wands and cut ties with the wizarding world. Now, the world has progressed to the point where wizards and Muggles can marry, and some wizards can reveal their magical identities to Muggle family members."
"What you're saying is that the wizarding world can gradually improve and address its shortcomings without us trying to push for change?" Liam asked, finding it odd that Hermione was praising the wizarding world's progress. He had expected her to criticize the wizarding world's flaws right away, but her focus on the progress made him unsure of her point.
"No, of course not", Hermione shook her head. "I just wanted to highlight that the wizarding world does make progress, and we need to study the successful examples that have driven this progress. We can learn from these examples to inform our own actions. After all, my research showed that the wizarding world's attitude towards Muggle-born wizards and Muggles is still deplorable, and this situation desperately needs to change."
"For instance, in several cases I reviewed, a wizard who committed murder would receive different punishments based on whether the victim was a Pure-blood wizard, a Muggle-born wizard, or a Muggle, and depending on the murderer's own blood status. This clearly shows that the wizarding world fundamentally looks down on wizards who are not Pure-bloods."
"Let alone the incident last year when Lucius Malfoy insulted my parents in the bookstore. Most of the wizards around us were indifferent to the situation and ignored my parents, all because they were Muggles who couldn't do magic." This event seemed to have a significant impact on Hermione, and Liam noticed that she was trembling slightly from the intensity of her emotions.
"Just like the newspaper said about Sirius Black, who escaped from prison and openly killed twelve Muggles in the street. But the wizarding world only cared about the wizard who died. The deaths of the Muggles were explained away as a gas explosion, and they received no compensation for the wizarding world's mistakes."
"So I want to do something to change the current situation. After all, our family and many of our friends don't have magical abilities. In a Wizarding World dominated by Pure-blood Wizards, where prejudice and discrimination are rampant, they are easily made into the innocent victims of the Wizarding World's mistakes", Hermione quickly regained her composure and concluded.
"So, what do you think we should do?" Liam straightened his posture and asked seriously. After all, the position of Pure-blood Wizards in the Wizarding World was deeply entrenched. He was eager to hear any useful suggestions Hermione might have to change this status quo.
"To address this issue, I spent a week gathering information and carefully studying the one person who managed to significantly alter the Wizarding World: Gellert Grindelwald", Hermione began, instead of directly answering the question, by sharing the information she had gathered.
"Gellert Grindelwald? Isn't he the Dark Wizard defeated by Dumbledore?"
"Yes, at least in the past few centuries, he was the only one who managed to bring about a large-scale change in the Wizarding World. I think his experiences have some valuable lessons. He once declared that with the development of the Muggle World, Muggles would gradually destroy the entire world. He also believed that due to technological advancements, Wizards would one day face severe threats. Therefore, he thought Wizards should break free from outdated laws and rule the entire world."
"He also pointed out that he did not hate any Muggles. Instead, he believed Muggles lacked foresight and needed Wizards to lead them forward. This was his reason for wanting to rule over Muggles."
"That's nothing special, though. Every powerful villain always comes up with a seemingly just cause to rally the common people and attract followers", Liam remarked.
"However, Grindelwald proposed that all Wizards should be equal, regardless of blood status. He also believed that Muggles and Wizards could coexist harmoniously, but under the order he designed. This slogan attracted a large number of non-Pure-blood Wizards and Muggle-friendly Wizards who were at the bottom of society. After the war, many Ministries of Magic controlled by Pure-bloods were severely damaged, and the Pure-bloods recognized the power of non-Pure-blood Wizards. As a result, they revised many laws and gave up some of their privileges", Hermione said, standing up with excitement and raising her voice.
"However, the war Grindelwald initiated did not reach Britain, so the dominance of Pure-blood Wizards in Britain remains firmly entrenched. Even Professor Dumbledore has been trying to solve this problem through gentle means for decades, but it hasn't been very effective."
"Britain's progress in recent years is largely due to the failure of the Dark Lord, which led to the loss of power and even the deaths of many key members of Pure-blood families. This shortage of Pure-bloods forced them to tolerate non-Pure-bloods filling the gaps."
"So, this is the best opportunity: the power of Britain's Pure-blood Wizards has been weakened, and Muggle-born and mixed-blood Wizards have been trained. The only issue is that the Pure-blood Wizards still cling to their control over the Wizarding World."
"This means that in the process of improving the Wizarding World, we are not alone, and we don't even need to step forward as leaders for now. What we need to do is start small, influence our classmates and the people around us, and gradually work towards changing the Wizarding World in Britain. After all, we are young and have plenty of time", Hermione concluded.
