Chapter 16: Rising Trust
Chapter 16: Rising Trust
"Katon: Goryuka no Jutsu!" (Fire Style: Great Dragon Fire Technique)
Obito quickly formed the necessary hand seals, gathering his chakra and undergoing a rapid nature transformation and shape transformation. He exhaled a fiery dragon that blazed fiercely as it rushed towards Uchiha Tetsuhi.
Uchiha Tetsuhi had been growing increasingly astonished during his close-quarters battle with Obito. He couldn't believe how much Obito had improved over the holiday break; he was far stronger than he had been in their third year.
Seeing Obito perform hand seals to release a ninjutsu, Uchiha Tetsuhi also began forming seals to counter with his own ninjutsu, determined to match Obito's prowess. He refused to believe that Obito could have improved so much in both taijutsu and ninjutsu.
He was certain he wouldn't lose to Obito in a ninjutsu showdown.
"Katon: Gokakyu no Jutsu!" (Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu) Uchiha Tetsuhi unleashed his chakra, blowing a human-height fireball towards Obito.
On one side was a ferocious fire dragon baring its fangs, and on the other was an imposing ball of raging flames. The two ninjutsu were about to collide.
"I'm so envious of them. They've already learned offensive ninjutsu."
Many of the spectating students felt a twinge of jealousy. Some of them hadn't even mastered the three basic ninja skills yet, let alone learn any new jutsu, and they had no means to do so.
"No way, do you call this a failure?" The students from the other class were surprised. They had come to witness Uchiha Tetsuhi's prowess but were astonished to see Obito demonstrate such a proficient Fire Style ninjutsu.
This level of skill couldn't be considered a failure; it was more like that of an honors student.
"However, I still think Uchiha Tetsuhi is slightly stronger. His fireball looks significantly larger than Uchiha Obito's fire dragon." Someone commented.
They believed that in a ninjutsu showdown, the larger-looking Great Fireball Jutsu would surely emerge victorious.
"Indeed, as expected of the Uchiha clan. I didn't expect this Uchiha Obito to be so talented, even if he's not as skilled as Uchiha Tetsuhi. With this ability, he could be a top student in my class, if only his theoretical grades weren't so abysmal." Kimura Kihito remarked as he scored the match.
The students from prestigious ninja clans were truly extraordinary. In his student days, he would have been delighted just to master the three basic ninja skills.
Based on Obito's performance in taijutsu and ninjutsu, even if he lost this round, Kimura would give him a fairly high score.
Just as the two ninjutsu were about to collide, the fire dragon suddenly ascended, avoiding the fireball and continuing its assault on Uchiha Tetsuhi.
Obito, on the other hand, moved swiftly, dodging the fireball while simultaneously controlling the Great Dragon Fire Technique.
Uchiha Tetsuhi was appalled by Obito's blatant disregard for martial arts etiquette, choosing not to continue their ninjutsu clash. However, he was momentarily helpless as the Great Fireball Jutsu couldn't be redirected.
As the fire dragon closed in, Uchiha Tetsuhi attempted to dodge but realized he was too late. He could only grit his teeth and brace for impact, prepared to sustain injuries.
At that moment, Muketsu, who had been ready and waiting, intervened. Using the Body Flicker Technique, he appeared beside Uchiha Tetsuhi and swiftly removed him from the combat zone before setting him down.
"Thank you, Teacher." Uchiha Tetsuhi expressed his gratitude to Muketsu. If not for his teacher's intervention, he would have undoubtedly been injured.
Muketsu nodded in acknowledgment and then announced the outcome of the match:
"In the first match, the winner is Uchiha Obito."
Some of the onlooking students hadn't even realized what had happened, as the situation had escalated so quickly.
They had been anticipating an exciting display of Fire Style techniques, but Obito had abruptly ended the fight with a clever move.
If it weren't for the teacher's intervention, Uchiha Tetsuhi might have been hurt.
"This Uchiha Obito is not someone to be underestimated." One of the observing students remarked with a hint of wariness as he eyed Obito.
Uchiha Tetsuhi's human-height fireball did look impressive, but in most cases, it wasn't easy to land a hit.
On the other hand, Obito's Great Dragon Fire Technique was different. Although its range wasn't extensive, it was highly agile and more likely to strike the opponent.
After all, strength spoke volumes in the world of ninjas.
As Obito walked over, he heard Hanare's praise and instantly wore a smug smile, saying proudly, "Hehe, I told you I could do it."
At that moment, Obito felt incredibly grateful to Mu Yue.
He knew that all these changes were because of her. Ever since becoming Mu Yue's disciple and receiving her dedicated guidance, his skills had improved tremendously.
If it had been the old him, he would have likely been disoriented and beaten by Uchiha Tetsuhi's punches during the taijutsu round.
[Disciple Uchiha Obito's trust level increased. Current trust level: 3]
As Mu Yue was calling out the exam participants' names, the system suddenly popped up a message.
He glanced at Obito, who was beaming with joy while chatting with Hanare.
"Looks like being a love fool isn't all bad," Mu Yue thought to himself.
Trust levels were notoriously difficult to raise, as even a single level increase brought about a significant boost—doubling the benefits and enhancing the effects of the 'Return to Master' ability.
The small amount of chakra returned by his disciples earlier was because Itachi and the others hadn't yet reached the stage of rapid power growth.
Once they entered that phase, a single level increase in trust could mean an additional ten thousand chakra for Itachi.
Mu Yue's expectation was to have at least one disciple reach trust level three by the end of the semester.
So, Obito reaching level three in just a month was an unexpected bonus.
The subsequent battles weren't as intense as the first one, and there were no instances where the teachers had to intervene. Mu Yue sat in his chair, casually chatting with Kimura Kihito while grading the students based on their performance.
If it weren't for his duty to supervise the exam, Mu Yue would have loved to wander around and use his Appraisal ability to search for any overlooked geniuses.
He currently had four disciple slots, three of which were filled, leaving one vacant.
Unsure if he could increase his disciple limit, Mu Yue didn't plan to use this last slot on anyone with a potential lower than S.
The higher the disciple limit, the greater the rewards he would receive in the future.
There were many geniuses in Konoha, and the ninja world was vast, so he didn't need to rush to fill the slot. A new disciple wouldn't bring any significant improvements in the short term anyway.
Mu Yue opened his ability panel to check his attributes.
[Name: Mu Yue]
[Age: 18]
[Chakra: 5300]
[Skills: Water Release: Water Severing Wave, Fire Release: Great Dragon Fire Technique, Water Release: Water Barrier Technique, Wind Release: Compression Damage...]
[Evaluation: You have mastered numerous jutsu, including many advanced ones. This allows you to handle various situations, and an ordinary jounin is no match for you.]
In reality, his growth rate was quite fast. In just one month, he had increased his chakra by a thousand points, and his repertoire of jutsu had expanded from two to several dozen, including powerful ones like Water Severing Wave. Just by looking at his ability panel, it was clear that he had become much stronger than when he had first arrived in this world.
The morning passed quickly, and the first two rounds of the exam were soon over.
However, Might Guy couldn't replicate Obito's feat of redeeming himself, as his opponents were rather ordinary. Although Guy handled them efficiently and decisively, it wasn't enough to change his classmates' impressions of him drastically.
But Mu Yue knew that it was only a matter of time. In the afternoon, the intra-class practical exams would conclude, and the top student from each class would be decided.
