Chapter 16: Red Moon Carp
Chapter 16: Red Moon Carp
!!!
The sudden bite on the hook caught Lu Qing off-guard.
Fortunately, with his years of fishing experience, his reflexes were sharp.
In an instant, he tightened his grip on the fishing rod and steadied himself, preventing both himself and the rod from being dragged into the water.
The force of this tug was almost as powerful as that of the previous blue-armored fish!
"You otherworldly fish sure like your ambushes, huh!" Lu Qing exclaimed, feeling the pull on the rod and shaking his head in amusement.
As an experienced angler, he had almost been 'dunked' twice today. These otherworldly fish certainly didn't play by the usual rules, biting without warning and constantly trying to ambush him.
If not for his expertise, they might have succeeded.
But since their first attempt had failed, he was ready for them!
Lu Qing tightened his grip on the rod, constantly sensing the changes in force transmitted through the rod and reacting accordingly as he began a new round of tug-of-war with the fish underwater.
After a brief struggle, Lu Qing realized something was amiss.
He had assumed that the new fish on the hook would be similar to the blue-armored fish, given the powerful initial tug.
However, he now sensed a difference.
Unlike the blue-armored fish's powerful and relentless force, this fish's strength was explosive but lacked staying power.
As long as Lu Qing could withstand its initial burst, its strength would quickly wane.
It was the type that relied more on burst than endurance.
Drawing from his experience, Lu Qing guessed that the fish at the end of his line was probably not as large as he had initially thought. Instead, it was likely a fast-swimming fish with strong bursts of speed but a smaller build.
With this realization, Lu Qing's heart settled.
Dealing with fast-swimming fish was much easier than handling powerful creatures like the blue-armored fish. The latter possessed immense strength, requiring him to be extremely cautious with each movement. Additionally, their endurance was formidable, turning every encounter into a test of patience.
With burst-type fish, as long as he could withstand their initial struggle, their strength would gradually diminish, and they would be unable to escape.
Events unfolded just as Lu Qing had predicted.
After withstanding a few more bursts of strength from the mysterious fish underwater, he noticed that its explosive force was diminishing.
Then, after a period of tugging, Lu Qing caught a glimpse of the fish's silhouette.
"A red fish?"
As the hooked fish broke the surface, Lu Qing was taken aback.
The fish was a vibrant, fiery red—a truly rare sight!
"What a peculiar fish!" he exclaimed, his heart racing with excitement at the sight of the brilliant red creature.
At the same time, he noticed that the red fish was indeed not very large, only about two to three decades long.
With this knowledge, Lu Qing relaxed and played the fish with even greater ease.
Soon enough, the fish was exhausted from the struggle and was pulled onto the grass.
"Big brother, what a beautiful fish!" Xiao Yan exclaimed, her eyes sparkling as she looked at the vibrant creature.
"Indeed, it is," Lu Qing agreed, unable to tear his eyes away from the stunning fish.
The newly caught fish was about a chi long, with an elongated body resembling the carp from his previous life on Earth. It had two graceful whiskers by its mouth and a tail that resembled a blooming flower. Combined with its fiery red scales, the entire fish looked absolutely breathtaking.
After admiring it for a while, information about the fish appeared before Lu Qing's eyes.
[Red Moon Carp: A peculiar fish clad in crimson armor-like scales, capable of incredible swimming speeds.]

!!!
Along with the few lines of text, a white light with a hint of red emanated from its body.
"Red light?" Lu Qing wondered if he was seeing things.
The red light was reflected off the scales of the Red Moon Carp. Upon closer inspection, he confirmed that it wasn't a reflection but indeed a distinct red glow that only his ability could discern, indicating the item's grade.
This meant that the Red Moon Carp was not merely a White-grade creature. Instead, it was an extraordinary fish between the White and Red grades.
No wonder there were three description tags. Typically, White-grade items only had two tags.
Lu Qing's attention immediately turned to the third tag.
"A slight chance to evolve into a Spirit Fish..." He mused over the words, "Could this Spirit Fish be an even higher existence than a strange fish?"
He suddenly recalled the Snow Silk given to him by the village elder.
The Snow Silk was already a Red-grade treasure, and he wondered if the silkworm that produced it was a Spirit Silkworm.
Unfortunately, this guess would remain unanswered for now. Even Elder Chen didn't know the origin of the Snow Silk, so Lu Qing had no one to ask.
Thus, the second tag was more useful to him at the moment.
"Its meat is extremely nutritious and delicious."
Lu Qing smiled as he read the description. He finally had a gift for Elder Chen.
He had planned to bring the Blue-armored Fish to the elder if he didn't catch anything else, but now, the Red Moon Carp was clearly a more precious gift.
Moreover, its size was more manageable for a present.
With that in mind, Lu Qing quickly took out the Blue-armored Fish, placed it on the grass, and put the Red Moon Carp into the bucket.
Since it was a gift, he had to keep it alive. Fortunately, the Red Moon Carp lived up to its name as an extraordinary fish. Although it had been exhausted from the earlier struggle and had lain on the grass for a while, it began swimming again as soon as it touched the water in the bucket, displaying its robust vitality.
After landing the Red Moon Carp, Lu Qing decided to call it a day.
He had exerted himself in consecutive battles of wits and strength against two formidable fish, and his energy was nearly spent. If he continued fishing, even if he caught more, he wouldn't have the strength to land them. Thus, it was best to quit while he was ahead.
"Little Yan, let's head back."
Lu Qing fashioned a grass rope, tied up the Blue-armored Fish, and slung it over his back. Carrying the bucket in one hand and holding the bamboo knife and fishing rod in the other, he turned to his sister.
"Brother, let me help you carry something." Xiao Yan saw her brother burdened with so many things and wanted to share the load.
"Alright." Lu Qing tried walking with all the items and realized it was a bit too much.
After a moment's thought, he hung the bamboo tube containing the worms around Xiao Yan's neck and placed the fishing rod on her shoulder.
"Little Yan, hold this fishing rod and be careful not to drop it," he instructed.
"Okay, I will, brother!" The little girl nodded seriously.
And so, the siblings set off, one carrying the fish and the other the fishing rod, making their way back with some difficulty.
As they passed by the small fishing spot, the villagers who saw the pair were left stunned.
