Chapter 16: Incidents at the Flying Lesson (Part 2) [Happy Mid-Autumn Festival]
“Petrificus Totalus!”
As Ivan uttered the Petrification Spell, a grayish-white beam of light shot out from his Wand, flying towards Malfoy in the distance.
Malfoy, who was still basking in his own triumph, had no idea what was coming. The Petrification Spell hit him squarely, and in less than half a second, his pale skin turned into a rigid gray. His expression and movements were frozen in the moment of being petrified.
In this state, Malfoy couldn't move a single finger, let alone control his broomstick. He immediately fell straight from the sky.
Of course, despite his body being petrified, Malfoy's consciousness remained intact.
But if he had a choice, Malfoy would rather not know anything at all.
After all, falling from a great height and watching the ground get closer and closer, the feeling of gradually approaching death was enough to drive anyone to the brink of madness. If not for the petrification, Malfoy would have been screaming at the top of his lungs by now.
The moment Ivan used the Petrification Spell to hit Malfoy, he turned to Hermione.
"Hermione, now!"
The clever young witch understood Ivan's plan the moment he made his move. But now, Hermione clearly didn't have time to scold him. She could only glare at Ivan and shout,
"Wingardium Leviosa!"
At that moment, Malfoy was terrified to the extreme, imagining himself breaking into pieces while petrified.
Malfoy even thought about how Lucius Malfoy would torture Ivan, Harry, and others in retaliation for his death.
Just as Malfoy was envisioning the Malfoy family's decline due to his unfortunate demise, his rapidly descending body suddenly stopped, leaving him suspended in mid-air.
Miss Granger heaved a sigh of relief after successfully casting the spell, and Ivan quietly put away his Wand.
"Malfoy!" Once Malfoy landed safely, the Slytherin House students immediately rushed over.
The Gryffindor students, on the other hand, were gloating, as Malfoy's arrogant demeanor had been truly detestable.
The only one who was unhappy was Miss Granger.
"Ivan, how could you use the Petrification Spell on Malfoy? You almost killed him!" Hermione glared at Ivan, her eyes filled with disbelief.
"So, your Levitation Charm was excellent. If Professor Flitwick had seen it, he would have given you points", Ivan said with a smile.
Malfoy wouldn't die just because of Ivan's Petrification Spell. At worst, he would suffer a bit. Even if Hermione's spell had failed, Ivan would have been there as a backup.
"Yeah, maybe Professor Flitwick would also expel you!" Hermione retorted, clearly not in a good mood.
That shouldn't happen, right? Ivan scratched his head, thinking that at most, he would lose some points, and maybe be assigned to polish trophies or spend a night in the Forbidden Forest.
If it were the latter, Ivan thought it wouldn't be so bad.
Of course, Ivan had no intention of going to the Forbidden Forest this semester, no matter what.
After all, Quirrell, possessed by Voldemort, often Wandered around the Forbidden Forest. Who knew if he might run into him by bad luck?
So, it was better to play it safe. As long as he didn't actively seek death, Hogwarts would be quite safe until fourth year.
Ivan recalled his somewhat unreliable golden finger. With four years of time and the System as his cheat, he should at least have the means to save his own life, right?
Ivan thought to himself as he walked towards Malfoy.
Halfway there, he was intercepted by a few young Wizards from Slytherin House. The leader was a Slytherin whom Ivan vaguely recognized, seemingly named Blaise.
"Hals, what are you doing here?" Blaise tightened his grip on his wand, frowning.
When faced with an external threat, the Slytherin House was quite united. Despite Malfoy's usual arrogant demeanor, many young Wizards were willing to stand up for him, and they subtly formed a circle around Ivan.
The brave little lions of Gryffindor were even more supportive, standing behind Ivan, both sides drawing their wands, even though these beginner spells might not be as effective as a good punch.
Ivan shook his head, raised his hand to stop Ron, who was about to roll up his sleeves, and said to Blaise.
"
Blaise seemed hesitant but, after a moment's thought, signaled the others to step aside. Ivan then did as he said and lifted the Petrification Spell from Malfoy.
Malfoy, having just experienced a rollercoaster of emotions, was still trembling, but to save face in front of everyone, he stiffly got up from the ground and shouted at Ivan.
"You dared to cast a spell on me! You're finished, Hals!"
"Is that so?" Ivan looked at Draco Malfoy. "What if I tell the professors about how you stole Neville's crystal ball and flew without permission?"
Ivan took a step closer to Malfoy, his tone suddenly becoming serious.
"I heard that Filch loves to take disobedient students to his office, tie their hands with chains, and hang them from the ceiling. Then he does some strange things with whips and wooden sticks."
Malfoy was visibly frightened. Indeed, this rumor was common among the older students. He even forgot that if it were true, Ivan would also be subject to the same treatment for breaking school rules.
Seeing the effect, Ivan was about to push further, but before he could speak, he heard Madam Hooch's voice from behind.
"How dare you!"
Madam Hooch, who had just returned from taking Neville to the infirmary, saw Malfoy fall from the sky on her way back. Now, seeing the tense standoff between the Gryffindor and Slytherin House young Wizards, she was furious.
Especially when she saw Harry, holding the crystal ball, looking bewildered as he rode his broomstick down from the sky, it made her even angrier.
Ivan covered his face with his hand in frustration. He had not anticipated that Madam Hooch would return at this moment. He had planned to have a serious talk with Malfoy, but now it seemed that was out of the question.
Upon reflection, Ivan realized he had inadvertently set himself up. If he hadn't used the Levitation Charm to save Neville, Madam Hooch would still be in the infirmary worrying about Neville.
