Chapter 16: Battle in the Plants vs. Zombies World - Part 1
Chapter 16: Battle in the Plants vs. Zombies World - Part 1
The next morning, Liam woke up early. He decided to explore a more dangerous world next time. But before he did, he needed to learn more magic and gain more power to ensure his safety during his adventures.
After all, worlds like Power Surge, where the rewards are high and the risks are low, make up only a small portion of all the worlds. More often than not, the daily routine would involve being swarmed by a horde of monsters as soon as he arrived in a new world.
While he was having breakfast, the System sent him a new message: Crazy Dave had improved several types of Magic Plants based on the ones Liam had brought him a month ago. Now, Dave was inviting Liam to test these new Plants together.
Test Plants? That meant a battle. However, with Dave around and the ability to return at any time, the safety risk should be minimal.
Liam thought about it and accepted the invitation. After all, when he couldn't quickly enhance his own abilities, relying on external help was a pretty good strategy.
After breakfast, Liam went to the Library with Hermione as usual to study. Because he was thinking about the night's activities, Liam seemed a bit distracted. Hermione even noticed his state.
"Liam, what's wrong with you today? You've been staring at the same page for almost ten minutes without turning it."
"Oh, nothing, just not feeling very good today. Thanks for your concern."
"No, I'm not concerned about you. Uncle Lambert asked me to keep an eye on you, and I can't go back on my word." With that, Hermione turned her head away, then opened her thick book and started taking notes. Liam also took out the essay Professor Mcgonagall had assigned and began to write.
The rest of Saturday passed in this way, with the two of them studying. After dinner, Liam discussed the weekend homework with some classmates in the Common Room. Once back in the dormitory, he waited for his roommates to fall asleep before starting another Traversal.

Standing in his yard, Liam looked at the thriving Plants. Then, he walked to Dave's Back Door on the wall.
Before he could knock, the door swung open. "Ah, little guy, come in quickly. I've been waiting for you for a while. Let's go to the Laboratory to see Dave's new inventions", Dave said, then headed into the room.
Liam followed Dave, listening to his incessant chatter. "The Plants you found are unlike anything I've ever seen. They are truly amazing and have given me endless inspiration. I've combined them with some local Plants, and the results against those annoying Zombies are unbelievable. I'm really curious about the world they came from."
As they talked, they reached the living room. Dave sat on the loveseat and gestured for Liam to join him.
Once they were seated, Dave took off his left shoe and pressed his big toe on a flower painted on the floor tile.
With a beep, a Safety Belt shot out and fastened around both of their waists. Then, the sofa tilted backward, and the Safety Belt retracted. Dave quickly stood up and pulled Liam up with him.
Walking around the sofa, Liam noticed a staircase leading downward that had been hidden beneath it.
Liam looked at Dave. "Why do we have to sit on the sofa to activate the mechanism?"
"Because I think the head jerking stimulates new ideas."
"Why did you make me sit there too?"
"Dave believes good things shouldn't be kept to oneself and should be shared with partners."
Liam: “......”
Following the winding stairs downward, they descended about four or five floors before a metal door appeared before them.
Dave ignored the nearby scanning camera and instead pressed his face against the glass of the fire extinguisher box next to the door for facial recognition. The metal door then opened. (Dave: "See, I designed it this way to ensure no enemy could ever think of it. You can install something similar at your place." Liam, not knowing what to say, could only nod politely in agreement.)
Behind the door was an underground space the size of half a football field, roughly three stories high. The entire area was illuminated by Sunlight Crystals.
"This is my Laboratory. Inside, there's an intelligent System I created to help me manage this Laboratory. Dave is an expert in every aspect", he said proudly. "Follow me; the new varieties of Plants you brought are back here."
As they walked past rows of Hydroponic Troughs, Liam recognized various familiar Plant species from the game he played in his past life, such as Cherry Bomb, Wall-Nut, and Potato Mine. The Plants also opened their small eyes and curiously examined him, occasionally whispering to each other.
"Looks like they like you, little guy", Dave said, standing by another door and waving Liam over. "Come in and see our new members of the Plant army."
Inside, the room was about a hundred square meters. Half of the space was filled with various high-tech scientific instruments, and the rest was occupied by rows of metal shelves and the Plants growing on them.
As Liam examined the Plants on the shelves, Dave walked over and began introducing them.
"Since I've only had these for a short time, I've managed to develop only three new Plant varieties so far."
He pointed to a cabbage about half a person's height. "The first one is a hybrid of the biting cabbage seeds you provided, called Cabbage Pugilist. It can continuously punch Zombies in front of it." As he spoke, the cabbage opened its eyes and assumed a boxing stance.
"Isn't this a variety from Plants vs. Zombies 2?" Liam asked, a bit puzzled. But then he thought, considering that all the Plants in the game were cultivated by Dave, it made sense that he could develop new varieties inspired by his own Plants.
Dave then pointed to a bean next to the cabbage. "This is Peashooter, which can shoot peas to push back Zombies. Thanks to the pod you gave me—yes, the Knot Vine pod—you told me that elasticity could also be lethal to Zombies."
Finally, Dave led Liam past a few shelves to the back of the room, where a row of strange Plants with dragon heads stood.
"I always thought dragons were just legends until you gave me that vial of Dragon Blood. (Liam: Ten Galleons for a vial the size of an adult's finger, it's highway robbery.) It inspired me to combine Plant and animal abilities, using the Venus Flytrap as a base to create this unprecedented Plant, Fire Dragon Grass. It's like a flamethrower."
After introducing the new Plants, Dave said, "I invited you here today because I hope you can help me test these new Plants and clear out a recent surge of Zombies in the area. After we're done, I can give you a portion of the newly reclaimed buildings and the reward I promised, as there aren't many people in the village who need new homes right now."
Liam thought for a moment and then replied, "No problem. As a human, I don't like Zombies and am happy to help you clear out these annoying creatures."
