Chapter 159: Truth Serum in the Potions
Chapter 159: Truth Serum in the Potions
"You're saying... there's an empty room under the trapdoor?"
The next morning, when Fred and George learned of this from Kyle, their expressions were as shocked as Cedric's.
Shocked, skeptical, and incredulous.
Because of the trapdoor, they hadn't slept well the night before. As soon as they closed their eyes, the image of the ferocious three-headed dog would appear in their minds.
They were too curious about what could possibly be guarded by a three-headed dog.
The final exam papers? Or perhaps Gryffindor's sword!
The two of them guessed all night, and only managed to catch a little sleep when the sky began to brighten.
Now, Kyle was telling them that there were just a few empty rooms under the trapdoor?
Fred and George couldn't accept it.
What about the adventure... what about the challenges... was Dumbledore just keeping a dog in the castle?
This was too sloppy, they couldn't be fooled like this.
"Those rooms couldn't have been empty all this time." Kyle patted Fred's shoulder and comforted him, "I think it's just that the professors were too busy at the start of the school year and didn't have time to set them up yet.
We can go back later, like during Halloween or the Christmas holidays."
"You're right." Fred sighed, "It seems we won't be going there anytime soon, and we can use that time to find the last word of the password."
"I think we should just forget about it." Cedric put down his pumpkin juice and said, "Hogwarts is so big, you might not even finish searching it by the time you graduate."
"No way."
George shook his head, "The creators of the Marauder's Map wouldn't hide the clues to the password in places that don't matter."
"The first clue we found was on Filch's office door... a place only someone in detention would go."
"And on the pillars in the Trophy Room..."
"The common rooms of the four houses..."
"The highest tower in the castle..."
...
"In any case, they're all places with significance or uniqueness." George stroked his chin thoughtfully, "And we can vaguely sense that we're very close to the final answer, but there's still a thin layer of parchment between us."
"Hmm..." Cedric shrugged, noncommittal.
He felt that the clue to the last password might not even exist, or that it was just a prank to begin with.
But Fred and George didn't believe this at all.
Soon, the messenger arrived.
A large group of owls flew into the Great Hall, and among them, six sturdy Long-Eared Owls attracted everyone's attention.
They carried a slender package, flying over the tables and stopping in front of a Slytherin student.
Without hesitation, the student opened the package, revealing a brand new Firebolt 2000.
"Yes, the new broom, Firebolt 2000, the professional Quidditch team's model!"
In the midst of the envious gazes of the young wizards, he spoke loudly with obvious pride, "My father sent it to celebrate my joining the Slytherin Quidditch team this year.
But in my opinion, it's unnecessary. Even without the best broom in the wizarding world, I can still beat everyone."
His voice was loud enough to be heard by half the Great Hall.
Kyle turned to look at him.
He didn't recognize the student.
"Hey, look at Marcus Flint."
"Fred's reminder suddenly made Kyle realize that Marcus's face was quite unpleasant, or perhaps it was the entire Slytherin Quidditch team, all of them looking rather grim.
Perhaps the name Firebolt 2000 brought back unpleasant memories for them, as everyone stopped what they were doing and glared at the boy who had received the package, even neglecting their meals.
The Gryffindors were also making quite a ruckus.
Neville had received a Memory Orb, a valuable Alchemy item, and a rare one at that.
However, it was notoriously useless in the wizarding world, only reminding you of forgotten items without providing specific details... which could be quite frustrating.
Additionally, Memory Orbs weren't cheap, costing over a hundred Galleons, enough to deter most curious wizards.
Kyle also received a package.
It was a small box the size of a palm, wrapped in parchment paper.
After delivering the package, the owl dropped off a letter.
'As agreed, I've sent you what you need, hoping it's not too late.
The correct version is at 69 Book Bar! 6=9+Book_Bar.
Wishing you great success in Potions.
(Your Order of Merlin Medal has entered reconsideration, but you'll need to wait a little longer)
—Pegasus Sasia.'
Kyle's eyes lit up as he realized that Sasia, the St. Mungo's Hospital Director, had sent the Potions.
'What is it?' Fred asked curiously, seeing Kyle's excitement. 'What did you buy?'
'No, these are Potions someone gave me.'
'Potions?'
'Well...' Kyle hesitated for a moment before explaining, 'I ran into some trouble at St. Mungo's... These Potions are compensation from the Hospital Director.'
Due to the Ministry's intervention, the Daily Prophet didn't mention werewolves, only reporting that someone had caused a disturbance at St. Mungo's.
So, neither Cedric nor the Weasley brothers, nor Conna, knew that he had encountered a werewolf face-to-face during the summer.
To avoid worrying them, Kyle didn't mention it either.
'Oh, I see...' Fred wasn't interested in Potions and casually picked up a copy of the Daily Prophet to read.
Cedric and Conna, however, approached with curiosity.
By this time, Kyle had already unwrapped the parchment paper, revealing a wooden box inside.
For easy transportation, the box had been enchanted with a Disillusionment Charm, appearing palm-sized from the outside but opening up to a much larger space.
Various bottles of different sizes were neatly arranged inside, around fifty to sixty of them, and one side of the box was partitioned off to hold ingredients needed for brewing Potions.
'These are Ashwinder Eggshells... and Unicorn Horn Petals...' Conna exclaimed in surprise.
She had seen these in Professor Snape's office, carefully sealed and placed on the top shelf, all of them extremely precious Potion ingredients.
Just placing one of these ingredients in Diagon Alley would fetch hundreds of Galleons.
Kyle only glanced at the ingredients before turning his attention back to the Potions.
He noticed that the quantity of Potions seemed a bit off.
There were too many.
In addition to the agreed-upon Potions, Director Sasia had included some extra items.
For some reason, Kyle even spotted a Truth Serum in the corner of the box.
