Chapter 159: Can We Visit Knockturn Alley?
Chapter 159: Can We Visit Knockturn Alley?
Facing the angry Harry, Ivan calmly explained.
"Harry! Knockturn Alley is a very dangerous place, as you just saw. The person I transformed into is young and doesn't have much intimidation. If I bring you along like this, it would be easy for us to be targeted. So, it's better to act tough and look like a bad guy."
"Is that so?" Harry asked, half-believing.
"Of course", Ivan said with conviction.
Harry had a hunch that Ivan was pulling his leg but couldn't find any evidence.
"By the way, Harry, why did you come to Knockturn Alley?" Ivan quickly changed the subject.
Harry didn't intend to hide anything and explained how he accidentally misspoke while using Floo Powder, getting choked by the soot.
Ivan nodded, realizing that nothing had changed from the original story, except for the fact that they hadn't encountered Hagrid. But after some thought, Ivan understood. Hagrid met Harry because he happened to be shopping in Knockturn Alley. A slight timing discrepancy could have caused their paths to diverge, possibly due to the butterfly effect of Ivan sending a letter to George and Fred.
Fortunately, Harry had luck on his side and ran into Ivan. Otherwise, the savior of the wizarding world might have been in serious trouble.
Harry had countless questions, such as what Ivan was doing in Knockturn Alley and why he had transformed into that appearance. As they walked, Harry voiced his doubts one by one.
"Why?" Ivan paused for a moment before answering.
"Because my home is in Knockturn Alley! I came out to buy books for the next school year. Being so young, it's not safe, so I used Polyjuice Potion to look more intimidating."
"You actually live in such a dangerous place? Why don't you move somewhere else?" Harry looked at Ivan in surprise, unable to understand why he would live there.
He had only been there for a short while, but even that brief time had shown him the cold and dangerous nature of Knockturn Alley. He had almost been dragged away, leaving him with a lingering sense of fear.
"Of course, it's because I'm poor!" Ivan rolled his eyes. If he had enough Galleons, he wouldn't dream of staying there.
Harry fell silent, his gaze filled with pity.
Until now, Harry had thought living with his aunt and uncle was the worst thing in the world. But after seeing the people in Knockturn Alley, he realized his living conditions weren't so bad. At least no one tried to kidnap him, and he didn't have to transform into someone else just to go out.
Thinking about the large inheritance left by his parents, Harry hesitated about using it to help his best friend. Perhaps he could lend them some money.
But when Harry decided to ask, Ivan shook his head with a smile and said, "Haven't you read the Daily Prophet? I developed a new potion that's selling very well. The orders I received today could flood my home. It won't be long before I can move out."
Harry nodded, remembering how Mr. Weasley was stunned when reading the Daily Prophet that morning and showed it to everyone.
Harry also saw the content of the newspaper, with the front page featuring a photo of Ivan and the Minister of Magic. The caption read that Ivan had invented a potion capable of curing werewolves, making a significant contribution to the magical world.
Unfortunately, Harry, who was not very familiar with the magical world, did not quite understand the value of this potion.
However, he heard George and Fred confidently stating that Ivan would definitely receive something called the Order of Merlin. Mrs. Weasley, on the other hand, thought it was unlikely, as Ivan was too young, and no wizard had ever received the Order of Merlin at such a young age.
The three of them argued for hours, almost delaying their trip to Diagon Alley!
On the way, Harry walked towards Flourish and Blotts, recounting the funny incidents from his stay at The Burrow to Ivan. Finally, he asked curiously,
"What is the Order of Merlin? It seems like everyone cares a lot about it."
"It's just a symbolic thing, not very useful!" Ivan casually brushed it off, thinking it would come with Galleons, but it turned out there was nothing.
Harry didn't quite believe it, as Mr. Weasley spoke about the Order of Merlin with envy, and Percy was jealous to the point of claiming he would definitely get it in a few years.
"Ivan, Harry!"
Just as the two were walking past Gringotts, they unexpectedly saw a bushy-haired young Witch waving at them.
"Hermione!" Ivan changed his path and walked over. The young Witch ran down the steps and hugged him, then let go and started chattering non-stop.
"I wrote you so many letters over the summer, but I had no idea where you were staying. I wrote to Harry to ask him, but he never replied."
At this, Hermione looked a bit angry because Ivan hadn't sent her a single letter all summer, and neither had Harry, even though she had told them where she lived.
Harry quickly explained about Dobby intercepting the letters.
Ivan was speechless. He had been so busy during the summer, either working non-stop or completely engrossed in alchemy, that he had completely forgotten about the whole situation.
But seeing Hermione's angry face, Ivan had to think of an excuse. Fortunately, the Weasleys, who had been looking for Harry, arrived just then, diverting Hermione's attention.
"Harry, where were you just now?" Mr. Weasley panted. "We searched for a long time and couldn't find you. Molly was worried sick!"
George, Ron, Fred, and the others, who had followed, noticed Ivan and greeted him enthusiastically.
Harry took the opportunity to explain how he had accidentally ended up in Knockturn Alley, almost being dragged away, and how Ivan had saved him.
He particularly emphasized how Ivan had quickly knocked out the nasty old Witch, scaring her into a hasty retreat.
"Awesome! Just like you!" George said to Ivan, impressed. He thought it must have been an amazing adventure.
Fred also wanted to experience that kind of excitement and asked Ivan,
"We've always wanted to go to Knockturn Alley to check it out, but Mum never lets us go there. Can we come to your place sometime?"
