Chapter 159: A Steady Stream (First Update)
Chapter 159: A Steady Stream (First Update)
"Wingardium Leviosa!"
With a Levitation Charm, Jerry lightly leaped and landed at the window of his room on the third floor, then quickly slipped inside.
He dispelled the Disguise Charm to revert to his original appearance and, without entering the Box Space, sat cross-legged on the bed to practice his Meditation Technique.
Given the commotion he had caused, he feared that an Auror might come to search the area. If they found his room and he wasn't there, it could lead to complications.
Meanwhile, on the other end of Magic Street near the bar, a dozen Aurors stood staring at the Plastic Dragon model that had been blown to pieces, lost in thought.
It was only then that they realized the dragon wasn't a Fantastic Beast but a special form of Magic conjured by the black wizard.
"Captain, what do we do now?"
A female Auror stepped forward to ask.
The Auror Captain furrowed his brow and immediately ordered:
"Search! Follow the direction the black wizard fled. Since he can't Apparate, he can't have gone far!"
If it were just an ordinary black wizard, he might have turned a blind eye, as such underground dealings were never-ending.
However, the strength the black wizard had displayed was extraordinary. Not only could he cast spells wandlessly, but he had also conjured a Magic Dragon he had never seen before.
The appearance of such an unfamiliar and powerful black wizard in French Magic Street was a cause for concern, especially with the Quidditch Four-Nation Tournament organized by the French Ministry of Magic set to begin the next day. The Minister had repeatedly stressed the importance of ensuring no security issues arose.
That was why he had decided to raid the underground exchange tonight, to warn these black wizards to keep a low profile and avoid causing trouble in the coming days.
...
The next morning, as sunlight streamed through the window, Jerry slowly opened his eyes.
After he returned last night, the Aurors seemed to have searched along the route he had taken, even reaching the hotel. However, they were quickly driven away by the hotel manager, who was hosting athletes from other countries who were set to compete the next day. It would be irresponsible to disturb their rest.
If they were disturbed and didn't get enough sleep, who would be held responsible if they lost the match?
However, when Jerry went downstairs for breakfast with Myle and the others, he noticed two wanted posters on the hotel wall.
The portraits on the posters depicted the middle-aged man he had transformed into yesterday. No name was given, but the description mentioned that he was a highly powerful and dangerous black wizard. Anyone who spotted him was urged to notify the Ministry of Magic immediately.
Jerry glanced at the posters without concern. His current appearance was different from the one in the posters, and he wasn't a black wizard but the legitimate Seeker for the English Quidditch team.
No one would associate him with the powerful black wizard who had escaped from a dozen Aurors the previous night.
After finishing a croissant and a cup of hot milk, Jerry stopped eating.
As he continued to practice his Meditation Technique, his dependence on food decreased. Previously, he had needed to eat a lot to replenish the energy consumed by the Super Mode. Now, with the Meditation Technique, his appetite had returned to that of a normal teenager.
With further advancement in his Meditation Technique, he would eventually be able to master the Fasting Technique.
"Today's match is against Germany. Don't feel pressured; we will definitely win!"
At the dining table, Myle encouraged everyone.
However, apart from Jerry, the other team members seemed to have little confidence in Myle's pep talk.
The German team had ranked seven to eight places higher than them in the last World Quidditch Cup, and during their match, they had been outscored by a staggering two hundred and fifty points. The chances of beating them this time were slim, especially since they had also replaced their Seeker.
Around eight o'clock, all the Quidditch players boarded the carriages prepared by the French Ministry of Magic. The carriages were pulled by beautiful hippogriffs, carefully selected by the Ministry.
France had one of the largest populations of hippogriffs among all countries, and hippogriff-drawn carriages were a staple mode of transportation for major events in France.
It was said that Madame Olympe Maxime, the headmistress of Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, kept a rare breed of hippogriffs known as the Thestral.
The Thestral was not only larger in size but also had more beautiful coloring, making it an extremely rare type of hippogriff.
However, when it came to speed, the fastest hippogriff breed was still the Thestral, which Hagrid had raised.
Around half past eight, the hippogriffs landed at the Quidditch stadium, which was already packed with a large portion of France's wizards and aurors.
After about half an hour of preparation, the match officially began at nine o'clock.
The setting of the match was not much different from what Jerry had experienced at school, except that the audience consisted of French Quidditch fans and a few wizards from other countries who had come to watch.
The number of spectators was significantly larger than at Hogwarts, and the stadium itself was twice as big.
However, this time, Jerry did not immediately catch the Golden Snitch to end the game as he had done at Hogwarts.
It wasn't because the Golden Snitch was faster than at school, but rather because after his conversation with Dumbledore, Jerry had gained a deeper understanding.
If he continued to win matches by catching the Golden Snitch at the very beginning, it wouldn't be long before the entire world of Quidditch faced issues.
Either he would be banned from participating, or the rules of Quidditch would be drastically changed to reduce the Seeker's role.
This was certainly not the outcome he desired.
His primary source of income was his salary as a Seeker. If this job were to be jeopardized, his legitimate means of earning money would be cut off. Therefore, he decided to adopt a more sustainable strategy.
What did this strategy entail?
It meant that when the Golden Snitch appeared, Jerry did not immediately go for it. Instead, he leisurely followed it on his broom, constantly maneuvering to prevent the opposing Seeker from catching it.
After about two hours, when he saw that his lackluster teammates had fallen behind by about one hundred and twenty points, he finally accelerated and swiftly caught the Golden Snitch, earning his team one hundred and fifty points and overtaking the other team by thirty points, thus winning the match.
When Jerry caught the Golden Snitch, the audience erupted in cheers, amazed that someone so young could truly outmaneuver the famous German Seeker.
While they were surprised, it was still within their realm of acceptance. Jerry had demonstrated the prowess of a highly talented Seeker, impressive but not beyond their normal expectations.
At the end of the match, the German team could only think that if they had scored a few more goals, they would have won even if Jerry had caught the Golden Snitch.
Little did they know, the timing of the victory was always determined by Jerry.
