Chapter 159: A Leaf's Classic Project
Chapter 159: A Leaf's Classic Project
"I can't wait to begin my life as a ninja." Obito got up early, finished his morning routine, and made his way to the agreed meeting spot with Mu Yue.
"I wonder who our other teammate will be. Could it be Rin? Is Teacher Mu Yue keeping it a secret to give us a surprise?" Obito's imagination ran wild.
"Hey, Burnt-hand Gramps, gimme a pancake!" Obito dashed to the pancake shop for breakfast.
After buying his breakfast, he hurriedly ate and walked towards the training field.
Having studied at the Ninja Academy for so many years, Obito was thrilled to finally have the opportunity to experience the life of a ninja.
"Granny, do you need some help?" Obito suddenly noticed an elderly woman who seemed to need assistance.
Obito quickly finished his pancake, threw the trash into a bin, and rushed over to help.
"Today is another meaningful day," Obito said with a smile after helping the second elderly person.
"Wait, I have to assemble with my team!" Obito suddenly remembered that today was the day they were supposed to gather for their internship, and he sprinted towards the training field.
He was grateful that he had woken up early; even with the slight delay, he probably wouldn't be too late.
Upon entering the training field, Obito heard two familiar voices and saw two familiar figures.
"As expected of my dear friend and rival, what a coincidence to meet you here among so many training fields."
"No, I'm not here to train. I'm looking for my team."
"How about a youthful and passionate contest? Let's race!"
"Not today, I have something on."
"Hey, Kakashi, what are you doing here?" Obito blurted out upon seeing Kakashi.
A very bad premonition filled his heart. Could Kakashi be their other teammate?
"Probably not," Obito tried to reassure himself. "Kakashi graduated several years ago and is already a Chunin. There's no way he'd be interning with us. He's probably here to train and just happened to run into us."
Hearing Obito's voice, Kakashi turned and looked at him, feeling puzzled. What a coincidence to run into Might Guy, and now Obito too?
"Actually, I should be the one asking that. Shouldn't you be in school at this time?" Kakashi asked calmly.
"You idiot! The Ninja Academy ended last week," Obito retorted.
"My apologies. After graduating so long ago, my sense of time isn't as sharp as yours. It has been a long time; it's been three years, and you're still in the Ninja Academy?" Kakashi mocked.
"You..." Obito was speechless. Whenever the topic turned to this, he would always be at a disadvantage and couldn't argue back because it was all true.
"I don't have time to waste with you today." Kakashi finished speaking and prepared to leave to look elsewhere. He didn't have a habit of being late like Obito.
"You must be Hatake Kakashi," Mu Yue said as she appeared beside Kakashi in a flash.
"So fast!" Kakashi's pupils constricted, and he unconsciously took two steps back. He hadn't sensed Mu Yue's presence at all.
Kakashi snapped out of his daze and nodded, "Yes, and you are Captain Uchiha, right?"
Sarutobi Hiruzen had informed Kakashi that the name of the team's guide teacher was Mu Yue Uchiha.
Looking at Mu Yue's face, Kakashi recalled some memories. He seemed to have seen Mu Yue somewhere before, probably during the Chunin Exams.
"That's right, Kakashi will be your new teammate from now on," Mu Yue announced directly.
"No way, that's totally wrong!" Obito couldn't hold it in any longer.
He never would have imagined that the person Mu Yue knew would be Kakashi. He knew him, but how could Kakashi possibly be here?
"Is there a problem, Obito?" Mu Yue asked.
"This guy graduated ages ago and he's already a Chunin. Why would he join our intern team?" Obito asked, scratching his head.
He had thought there was no way it could be Kakashi, and yet here he was.
"Intern?" Kakashi also looked puzzled. He had thought that running into Obito and Might Guy was a coincidence, but it seemed that they were supposed to be his new teammates.
"The reason is a bit special, but for the next few months, Kakashi will be your teammate, no doubt about it," Mu Yue replied.
"Obito and Guy haven't graduated yet. This is an internship activity organized by the Ninja Academy to help outstanding students transition more quickly into the life of a ninja," she explained to Kakashi, clarifying the situation.
Kakashi suddenly felt like he had been duped by Hiruzen Sarutobi, who had sent him straight to join a team of Ninja Academy students.
"Did I get too relaxed after taking a break? I didn't even sense a Ninja Academy teacher getting close to me," Kakashi thought to himself.
"Let's all introduce ourselves since we're teammates now. Even though we're intern ninjas, we're still ninjas, and this is different from before," Mu Yue said.
"I'll start. My name is Mu Yue Husui. I love teaching and watching my students grow stronger. My hobby is calligraphy, and I enjoy egg-related cuisine," Mu Yue said with a gentle smile.
"As expected of Teacher Mu Yue!" Might Guy gave her a thumbs up.
"I'm Might Guy. I love training, and my dream is to become the world's strongest taijutsu ninja. I want everyone to know that even without ninjutsu or genjutsu, you can still become a powerful ninja!" Might Guy shouted passionately.
"That's so like him," Kakashi thought to himself, rolling his eyes. Only Might Guy would say something like becoming a strong ninja without relying on ninjutsu or genjutsu.
"I'm Obito Uchiha. I love helping those in need, but I hate doing homework. My dream is to become a Hokage that surpasses all the previous ones!" Obito said quickly.
Seeing that everyone else had introduced themselves, Kakashi knew he had to as well. "I'm Kakashi Hatake. There's nothing I particularly like or dislike, and I don't have any hobbies or dreams."
"That's basically just your name!" Obito blurted out.
Kakashi ignored Obito's comment and looked at Mu Yue with a detached expression.
"These kinds of personal things can't be forced," Mu Yue said, understandingly. "Let's begin our first training exercise. For the next day, you just need to grab the bell I'm holding. If you succeed, you pass."
"If you fail, you'll have to fend for yourself for dinner and miss out on my special cooking."
"Boring," Kakashi thought to himself, unimpressed by the punishment.
