Chapter 1589: A War Without Victors (Thirty-Nine)
Chapter 1589: A War Without Victors (Thirty-Nine)
Now that Isabelle had confronted Albert about his feelings for Katrina, he could no longer feign ignorance. It wasn't that Albert disliked the sisters, but he feared he would continue to push the boundaries of what was acceptable.
People should have their own moral compass.
As for Hermione, Albert didn't exactly regret his actions, but it was still an issue that needed to be addressed. He wasn't a heartless person, nor did he have a habit of discarding people after using them.
So, ever since he returned from Australia, Albert had been unconsciously avoiding the issue. But now that Isabelle had brought it up directly, he realized he needed to face it head-on.
However, by doing so, the previously harmonious living situation was shattered, and the hidden dissonance was silently amplified.
The atmosphere at home became strange, and dinner was moved to the courtyard, with candles lit on the table to create a romantic ambiance.
Albert immediately understood what was happening.
Isabelle wanted to create a romantic candlelit dinner for her sister, to give her a perfect first experience, but Albert had refused.
After all, the three of them would continue to live together, so there was no need for such theatrics. Thus, it turned into a "regular" dinner with the sisters sitting on either side of Albert.
In truth, neither Albert nor Isabelle felt the need to pursue such grand romantic gestures. They preferred the calm and cozy life they shared. This made Katrina, who had dressed up especially for the occasion, feel out of place at this "family dinner" under the soft candlelight.
Fortunately, the delicious food prepared by the house-elves and the casual conversation topics during the meal prevented Katrina from feeling too awkward, bringing this "wonderful" candlelit dinner to a perfect close.
Perhaps the dinner lacked romance, but it was filled with warmth, making Katrina even more envious of the bond between Albert and Isabelle.
That was the kind of love she yearned for.
Sadly, her love was a hand-me-down from her sister, but having something was better than nothing. Otherwise, she wouldn't even have a chance.
After dinner, they sat on soft sofas, listening to the wizarding news on the radio while discussing their future plans.
This was actually a rather odd topic for most wizards.
Most witches would spend their lives tending to their families after marriage, and their husbands would be occupied with the demands of their work.
However, what surprised Katrina was that Albert, who was supposed to be exceptional, didn't seem to have the revolutionary future she had imagined for him.
He merely intended to organize the knowledge in his mind into books and engage in some hobbies as he lived out the rest of his life peacefully.
This didn't align with the expectations of a once-in-a-generation genius. From the moment Albert entered Hogwarts, he had been stirring up trouble, so how could he now desire peace?
But Katrina soon realized her mistake.
Albert could even gloss over the fact that he planned to recreate the Philosopher's Stone as if it were a trivial matter.
The idea of compiling the knowledge in his brain into books intrigued Katrina even more.
This task was far from simple.
"What about you, sister?" Katrina asked curiously as she watched Isabelle play with little Alice. "I remember you used to have so many dreams."
"I don't have any particular aspirations now. I'll probably continue to be Albert's sidekick and help him fulfill his wishes."
Isabelle's former dreams and desires no longer held the same importance. Albert was her whole world now.
Moreover, Isabelle also believed that helping Albert compile his knowledge into books that would be passed down through the ages was a wonderful idea.
In Isabelle's words, having their names printed on countless books would be their own unique form of romance.
Especially when some of those books became textbooks for new students, more people would learn about their love story.
This made Katrina feel inferior and jealous.
Compared to their relationship, she felt like a third wheel.
However, she was content to remain by their side. She, too, was willing to help Albert with his writing and research into beauty potions.
Who would refuse the chance to stay young and beautiful forever?
Besides, there was also the Philosopher's Stone.
Katrina had absolute faith in Albert's abilities and never doubted that he would succeed.
Perhaps the three of them could even achieve longevity like Nicolas and Perenelle Flamel.
In the distant future, eternal youth might not be just a dream.
With the remarkable Albert, anything was possible.
As for those seductive and cheap women out there, they would eventually be forgotten, swept away by the tides of time! Albert, of course, had no idea what was going on in Katrina's overactive mind. He was discussing their upcoming moving plans with Isabelle.
However, the three of them had differing opinions on the matter.
Albert wanted to move to the wizarding village once it was completed, but Isabelle hesitated. She didn't want to do anything that would make it inappropriate for Katrina to continue living with them, and she would do anything to avoid that outcome.
The fact that the MacDougal sisters had both fallen in love with Albert was big news in the British wizarding world.
If Katrina didn't want to attract unwanted attention, she would have to be careful about certain things, and the best way to avoid prying eyes was to stay out of the public eye.
However, if they moved, they would be exposed to everyone's scrutiny.
Fortunately, Albert already had a solution in mind. He planned to use the Floo Network to connect the two houses, just like the Flamels, keeping their true home hidden.
Moreover, they didn't intend to stay in that home forever. Once their business in Britain was concluded, Albert planned to embark on a spontaneous world tour.
The trio chatted late into the night on the sofas in the grand hall until Katrina brought out some yoga mats, bringing the conversation to a close.
After a quick stretch with Isabelle, Katrina expressed her desire to take a bath and hurried off.
Isabelle gave Albert a gentle nudge from behind and a supportive glance.
"Go on! My poor sister finally worked up the courage."
"I'll take care of her."
Albert kissed Isabelle's cheek, got up from the sofa, and followed Katrina.
"What a pair of awkward lovebirds," Isabelle sighed. "I hope they have a sweet night. This is giving me a headache."
