Chapter 158: Kakashi's Impending Recruitment
Chapter 158: Kakashi's Impending Recruitment
On Friday morning, Mu Yue made her way to the Ninja Academy.
Today was the day exam results were announced, and she needed to distribute the students' papers before attending a few meetings.
Mu Yue was in a fairly good mood that day. Soon after waking up, she received the exam rewards.
[System Notification: Your disciple, Uchiha Stopwater, has diligently cultivated and achieved perfect scores in the academic assessment, earning a reward of 300 Chakra and a Ninjutsu Proficiency Scroll.]
[System Notification: Your disciple, Uchiha Obito, has diligently cultivated and attained excellent scores in the academic assessment, earning a reward of 250 Chakra.]
[System Notification: Your disciple, Might Guy, has diligently cultivated and achieved good scores in the academic assessment, earning a reward of 200 Chakra.]
With a single breath, her chakra count increased by 750 points, bringing her one step closer to her goal of 50,000.
[Name: Mu Yue]
[Chakra: 30,500]
Currently, Mu Yue's chakra had reached the level of 12.2 kakis.
She was quite satisfied with this progress, especially since Obito and Might Guy's training missions hadn't been settled yet. The surge in growth was largely due to Stopwater's activation of the Sharingan, which caused a rapid increase in chakra.
This semester had been one of tremendous growth for her. Since the special training ended, her chakra had increased by almost 15,000 points. To put it in perspective, during the previous semester, from the first day to the end of special training, her chakra had only increased by about 10,000 points, and that was with an extra month. Yet, this semester's chakra increase was significantly higher.
There were multiple reasons for this substantial improvement. For instance, during classes, she chose to forgo learning new ninjutsu and instead opted to convert all rewards into chakra. Additionally, the natural growth rate of her own chakra had increased, and her disciples were also developing their abilities.
Mu Yue felt that this growth rate should be sustainable for the rest of the semester. Although Stopwater's chakra growth was slowing down from its initial surge, it was still much faster than before he obtained the Sharingan. Moreover, Obito and Might Guy's strengths were also steadily increasing, and she believed they could achieve their goal by the time they graduated.
If this growth rate could be maintained, Mu Yue was confident that by the time Obito graduated, she would have achieved her own goal of reaching 20 kakis, or 50,000 chakra. Even if she fell short, it wouldn't be by much.
"Teacher Mu Yue, I made a lot of progress this time! I got 83 points. Can I get my reward now?" As soon as Red Bean entered the classroom, she excitedly shared her good news with Mu Yue.
"Improving by five points is considered a lot?" Mu Yue teased, gently rapping her knuckles on Red Bean's head.
"Hehe, but it's my best theoretical score yet!" Red Bean replied with a cheeky smile.
"Here, have a dumpling," Mu Yue said, handing a dumpling to Red Bean.
Regardless of their exam performance, Mu Yue always gave her students a small treat. She felt it was a worthwhile investment to spend a little money and gain a lot of goodwill.
The first meeting of the day was a summary conference, followed by the distribution of excellent teacher awards.
There was no doubt that Mu Yue would be among the excellent teachers. Her Class 1-1 was considered a legendary class by her fellow teachers.
After the large conference, a smaller meeting was held, attended only by teachers with important positions.
The focus of this meeting was to discuss the upcoming teaching plans, summer special training and internships, and the pilot project for large classes.
"This time, the four classes led by Teacher Koji Kon have improved their average theoretical score by three points," a teacher commented after reviewing the materials. "However, when it comes to theory, there doesn't seem to be much difference between the large and small class formats."
There were a total of eight first-grade classes, with Mu Yue teaching four and Koji Kon teaching the other four. Due to Mu Yue's exceptional personal abilities, her class's performance was not used as a benchmark for comparison.
After the discussion, the teachers concluded that the large class format could be extended to other grades.
As Mu Yue prepared to leave after the meeting, she learned that the Third Hokage had summoned her, so she made her way to the principal's office.
"Mu Yue, glad you could make it. Come, take a seat," Hiruzen said with a smile, removing the pipe from his mouth.
"Lord Third," Mu Yue greeted respectfully before sitting beside him as instructed.
"I was hoping that you would continue to excel as you did in the first semester, and you've managed to surprise me yet again. Your Class 1-1 has made significant strides in practical assessments, far surpassing other classes of the same grade," Hiruzen remarked.
"It seems I've underestimated your abilities, Mu Yue. At this rate, Class 1-1 will soon be the benchmark for higher grades, not just their peers," he added.
"My students are very cooperative," Mu Yue humbly acknowledged.
Excessive humility could lead to being underestimated, but his achievements spoke for themselves, and his modesty only made him seem more approachable.
"Is there any particular jutsu you wish to learn, Mu Yue? Feel free to choose any ninjutsu or sealing technique of any attribute," Hiruzen asked, stroking his goatee.
In terms of position, Mu Yue had reached a temporary plateau, as Hiruzen intended to promote him to the vice-captain of the teacher's squad in the next semester.
The only further advancement would be to become the squad captain, but that position was currently held by a veteran—a graduate of the Ninja School's first batch, who had also made notable contributions during the Second Great Ninja War.
Mu Yue's achievements were not yet sufficient to supersede him.
Since a positional promotion was not feasible, Hiruzen opted to reward Mu Yue with a jutsu instead, leaving the choice to him.
"I'd like to learn a sealing technique," Mu Yue replied after a moment's thought.
He hadn't come across any sealing techniques through the system yet, so Hiruzen's offer was most welcome.
"Certainly. I'll have someone deliver it to your home in a few days," Hiruzen nodded.
This was within his expectations; sealing techniques were harder to come by than regular ninjutsu.
"I'd also like to trouble you with the matter of Kakashi," Hiruzen said finally.
He couldn't bear to see such a talented ninja genius continue to languish.
"I'll do my best," Mu Yue assured him gravely.
With such promising individuals being brought to his attention, he was determined to ensure Kakashi reached his full potential.
He had been waiting for an opportunity like this to offer the fourth disciple slot.
While the ninja world was filled with geniuses, his system favored taking on disciples as early as possible, as he couldn't maximize their potential if they had already come of age.
Eight-year-old Kakashi fit the bill perfectly, and while Stopwater was a bit young, the Sharingan made him a worthwhile investment of Mu Yue's time.
...
On Monday, as Kakashi pondered whether to wander around the village or stay home to read novels, he suddenly recalled that Hiruzen had assigned him to a new team.
"Training Ground 22, that's what the Hokage said," Kakashi muttered to himself as he made his way to the designated location.
"A new team..." Kakashi hoped that this time, the guiding teacher and his teammates would be more mature than the last group. The memory of their faces outside the Hokage's office still irritated him.
There are too many bugs in the bedroom. I did a major pest control today, and since my computer is in the bedroom, I might not be able to update much today.
