Chapter 1577: A War with No Victors (Twenty-Seven)
Chapter 1577: A War with No Victors (Twenty-Seven)
The apprentice Aurors who had just finished their practical training were walking back to the castle, chatting and laughing. However, there were always a few exceptions.
"Are you okay?" Harry asked, looking at the pensive Ron.
"I'm fine," Ron replied.
"You don't look fine," Harry pointed out.
Ron opened his mouth but didn't say anything.
Harry frowned slightly, remembering what had happened earlier. "Moody seemed pretty upset with you."
"It wasn't on purpose," Ron said dryly.
"What's distracting you?" Harry asked in a low voice. He had noticed that Ron had been preoccupied lately, which was causing him to make mistakes during their Auror training.
"You mean has Hermione found her family?" Ron suddenly asked as they entered the Great Hall for dinner. He tried to sound casual, but Harry could tell that he was very concerned about this matter, which was probably the main reason for his recent preoccupation.
Harry looked at Ron and after a moment, said comfortingly, "With Albert's help, Hermione will definitely be able to find her family."
"But they've been missing for several days now. It's not normal," Ron mumbled, poking at the potatoes on his plate with his fork. He trusted Albert's abilities, but it was precisely because of this trust that he felt the search was taking too long.
"Maybe it takes a long time to travel. After all, Australia and Britain are on opposite sides of the globe," Harry said. He could guess what Ron was worrying about. If it were Ginny instead of Hermione, he would probably be just as anxious. However, he still felt that Ron's worries were unnecessary. After all, Albert was already married with a child. Even if Hermione liked him, it was unlikely that anything would come of it. Moreover, Albert was a very devoted husband who loved his wife dearly.
"You're right," Ron said, clearly unconvinced by Harry's reasoning.
"If you really like Hermione, you should muster up the courage to pursue her," Harry said, lowering his voice to ensure they weren't overheard. "If you don't try, you'll never have a chance."
"But...I..." Ron hesitated, unsure of what to do.
"Oh, come on, Ron," Harry said, frustrated with his friend's lack of initiative. "If you don't take the chance, you'll never know."
"She likes Albert!" Ron said glumly.
"It's not about liking, it's about admiration, like Ginny used to have for him. But that's not the point," Harry said, sighing at Ron's dejected state. "Forget it, let's wait for Hermione to come back, and then Ginny can help you find out how she feels. But I still think you should pluck up the courage and confess your feelings to her."
"You don't understand," Ron said.
"What don't I understand?" Harry asked, taken aback.
Ron shook his head, not wanting to continue the conversation.
Harry fell silent, not knowing what else to say. In this matter, he felt he had no better solution.
"Just don't be distracted during training, it's really dangerous," Cedric said as he sat down next to them with his tray. Seeing Ron's silence, he added, "If you keep making mistakes, Moody will definitely revoke your Auror trainee status."
"I'll be more careful!" Ron said stiffly.
Changing the subject, Harry asked, "Has Albert returned?"
"Not yet. He probably had something to take care of. He should be back tomorrow. Do you need something from him?" Cedric replied. Although he was curious about Albert's whereabouts, he knew it was a personal matter and didn't want to pry. After all, Albert had mentioned beforehand that he might need to be away for a few days.
"No, I just wanted to ask if he had found Hermione's family," Harry said, glancing at Ron.
Cedric paused for a moment, then smiled reassuringly. "Don't worry, Albert will definitely be able to help Miss Granger find her family."
Harry felt that Cedric might have misunderstood something, but he didn't want to explain. Suddenly, Cedric turned to Ron and asked, "Are you planning to move to our village like Harry?"
"What?" Ron was taken aback by the question.
"You must have heard that we're building a wizarding village," Cedric explained in a low voice. "Harry, if you and Hermione are willing to help out, you can both have your own houses, just like the other members."
Ron looked at Harry, confused.
"Yeah, I think we need to help build the village to get the right to use the houses," Harry said, recalling what Albert had told him. He gave Cedric a puzzled look, asking, "Can Hermione and Ron also have houses?"
"Of course," Cedric replied. "Albert said that the three of you made a huge contribution to defeating the Dark Lord, and this is the reward you deserve."
Cedric explained the situation to them, knowing their confusion. After encouraging Ron to think about it, he got up and left with his tray.
"But we're still in Auror training, we don't have time to help build the village," Ron said, frustrated. "He doesn't want us to settle in the village."
"Ginny is helping out with some simple tasks over there," Harry said, feeling a bit embarrassed. "After our Auror training is over, I'll also go and help when I have free time."
"What about me, then?" Ron asked, suddenly feeling like giving up on becoming an Auror.
"Hermione will probably also go and help," Harry said, looking at his dejected friend. His meaning was clear. If the two of them got married in the future, they could also settle in the village.
Moreover, even if Ron didn't help with the construction, he could still live in the village, although he would have to settle for an apartment instead of a villa.
"Hey, Harry, do you have any Felix Felicis left?" Ron suddenly asked. He felt that if he were to confess his feelings to Hermione, he would need the luck-enhancing potion to help him. He now regretted not keeping his share of the potion.
"It's all gone," Harry said. He knew what Ron wanted it for, but in a life-and-death battle like the one they had faced, there was no room for keeping such things.
"Hermione will be back soon. I'll confess my feelings to her when she returns," Ron said, taking a deep breath.
"Good luck," Harry said. While he didn't think Ron's feelings for Hermione would be reciprocated, he knew they needed closure. Even if Hermione didn't accept Ron's confession, it was better for Ron to get it off his chest. Their friendship couldn't withstand the constant back and forth.
Moreover, Ron's recent lack of focus during training was dangerous. Being an Auror was a risky job that required his full attention.
"I don't think Ron has much of a chance," Ginny said sympathetically when Harry brought up Ron and Hermione's situation.
"You don't think so?" Harry was a bit surprised.
"Ron doesn't really have a chance, at least not right now," Ginny shook her head.
"Why not?" Harry asked, confused. "Hasn't Albert already married someone else?"
"Mr. Anderson is married, but that doesn't mean Hermione has to like that big idiot, Ron," Ginny sighed, explaining to Harry. "Let me feel out Hermione's thoughts first before that idiot goes and confesses. We don't want him to mess things up and make the situation worse."
"Alright, I'll leave it to you then," Harry said.
