Chapter 157: The Dark Wizard
Chapter 157: The Dark Wizard
"Baa!"
"Baa!"
Four first-rank Spirit Rams lifted their heads and let out strange cries, their hooves leaving the ground as they pulled the carriage into the sky.
"Karl," Daniel said, controlling the rams to adjust their direction. He turned his head to look at Karl:
"Opportunities like this to broaden one's horizons are rare. There's no need to rush back, even if things get chaotic. After all, few would dare offend the wizards of the Hexagon Tower."
"Yes," Karl nodded. "It's mainly because I don't have many magic stones on me. There's no point in staying, so I might as well return."
"Heh..." Daniel chuckled. "That's true."
He wasn't very familiar with Karl, the newly promoted wizard of the Hexagon Tower, but he had heard others speak of him.
The consensus was consistent.
Cautious, timid, and eager to learn, Karl's wizardly talent was average, but he had decent luck.
Wizards like Karl usually had limited prospects.
If wizard apprentices competed based on talent, then wizards competed for various resources.
For a wizard like Karl, with average talent and no connections, the only way to advance was to seize every opportunity. Otherwise, he might never progress beyond the mid-stage of the first rank.
Caution was a good thing.
But being overly cautious without a fighting spirit wouldn't attract resources from the heavens.
In comparison, Omar was much better off.
Despite being a girl, she knew exactly what she needed and took solid steps towards her goals.
With Bella's assistance, she was sure to become a late-stage first-rank wizard in time.
Even the second rank wasn't out of reach.
These thoughts remained in Daniel's mind. He had already done his part by advising Karl, and there was no need to say more.
Under the moonlight, the Spirit Ram carriage pierced through thick clouds, leaving wisps of vapor in its wake as it raced forward.
The carriage wasn't exceptionally fast, but it was comfortable and ideal for long-distance travel.
Karl caressed the soft armrest and backrest, already considering when to acquire one for himself.
Standing on a flying carpet, exposed to the wind and sun, was no match for the comfort of the carriage.
"Hmm?"
Daniel, who had been resting with his eyes closed, suddenly opened them and turned towards the distant forest.
A surprise attack by a Death Knight?
Recognizing the familiar wizardry, Daniel's expression changed. He thought for a moment before handing a wooden plaque to Karl:
"You control the ram carriage. I'll go check out the situation over there."
"This..." Karl also sensed the approaching aura and nodded lightly. "Be careful."
"It's fine," Daniel assured him.
In a flash, Daniel's figure disappeared from the seat, reappearing thirty meters away.
With a few blinks, he was out of sight.
First-rank wizardry—Void Walk! This was a unique spell of the Hexagon Tower, allowing incredible speed and further upgrades to corresponding second and third-rank spells.
With this spell, Daniel could even escape a second-rank wizard, let alone a first-rank one.
Karl's envious gaze returned to the wooden plaque, which he quickly mastered to control the Spirit Ram carriage.
"The auction hasn't even ended, and chaos has already begun. It seems my decision to leave early was right."
"Go!"
"Baa!"
The four Spirit Rams let out a high-pitched cry and charged forward.
Soon, the carriage soared over a mountain, revealing several figures running through the mountains. A few of them were shouting.
A chase in the wilderness?
"Friend of the Hexagon Tower!"
One of the fleeing figures spotted the Spirit Ram carriage and cried out, "Please wait! A dark wizard is chasing us. Please help, and we'll reward you handsomely afterward."
"Damn it!" One of the pursuers' expressions changed upon hearing this, and one of them shouted angrily, "Mind your own business! This is a personal grudge. Don't think the Hexagon Tower will protect you!"
"Die!"
As he waved his staff, a curved arc of light appeared and swept towards the fleeing figures.
"Pfft!"
"Pfft! Pfft!"
Instantly, several figures fell.
Karl, in the carriage, frowned slightly and then controlled the Spirit Rams to descend towards the figures below.
"Whoosh..."
A powerful gust of wind stirred.
The two figures in the lead were pulled into the carriage by an unseen force, and the Spirit Rams swiftly turned and charged upwards.
If it were anyone else, Karl would have ignored them, but the person being chased was someone he knew.
"Karl!"
"Enid, we meet again."
The person being chased was none other than Enid of the Nelson family.
Seeing the pursuers flying after them with their wizardry, Karl's expression turned grim.
First Rank Mid-stage! No wonder Ined dared not fly into the sky, with the opponent's strength, in such an open area like the sky, it was almost certain death.
"Roar!"
A vast dragon's roar suddenly echoed through the void.
A black giant dragon was summoned by the wizard behind, opening its mouth wide and charging towards the spirit sheep carriage.
Summoning Spell! The wizard signs a contract with creatures from the Star Realm or other worlds, summoning them to fight when needed.
This type of sorcery is a rare spell that can kill enemies of higher ranks, as long as the summoned beast is strong enough.
However, the black giant dragon looked majestic, but it was actually just a phantom or a remnant soul.
Its rank was at most First Rank Late-stage.
Nevertheless, the dragon's might still exerted immense pressure on the spirit sheep, causing its speed to slow down involuntarily.
"Hya!"
Karl gripped the wooden plaque that controlled the carriage, pouring his mental power into it.
"Maa!"
The four spirit sheep raised their heads and let out a shrill cry, their auras intertwining. Suddenly, a giant spirit sheep phantom appeared in the void.
The phantom's four hooves stomped, and the carriage charged into the sky, enduring the giant dragon's bite.
"Whoosh..."
The gust of wind blew in their faces, and the pursuers were left far behind.
"At full speed, even a First Rank Late-stage wizard might not be able to catch up."
Karl praised, then turned to Ined and the others:
"How did you get into this trouble?"
"..." Ined grimaced:
"Trouble?"
"You know my personality. I would never seek trouble. It's all because of the vortex spirit butterfly."
"Vortex spirit butterfly?" Karl frowned:
"So soon, someone is already after you?"
He had thought that this matter would only cause disputes after the auction ended, but he never expected it to develop so quickly.
"The head of the family bid for the vortex spirit butterfly and didn't wait for the auction to end before sending us off in different directions."
"As soon as our team left, we were chased by a black wizard. Fortunately, we met you."
"Zoe."
"Thank you, Karl Wizard!"
"Karl Wizard." Zoe was a woman in her thirties, her face pale, and her voice trembling voice:
"Thank you!"
Karl's gaze lingered on Zoe's slightly protruding belly, and he could hear another faint voice.
"Pregnant?"
"Yes." Ined nodded:
"I brought her along this time to broaden her horizons, but I never expected... Zoe's husband couldn't make it out."
"It's okay." Zoe clenched her teeth and whispered:
"As long as the head of the family can bring back the vortex spirit butterfly and allow the birth of a Second Rank Wizard in the Nelson family, it's all worth it!"
"Well said!" Ined patted her on the back:
"You're a good daughter-in-law of the Nelson family."
Karl remained silent.
The Nelson family used the others as bait to create chaos, taking the opportunity to retrieve the vortex spirit butterfly. What a decisive move.

However,
Is it really worth it?
It's uncertain if the vortex spirit butterfly can be refined into a pill, and even if it can, it's not guaranteed that a First Rank Late-stage wizard will advance to the next rank. It's just a chance.
But for this chance, a family with numerous wizards is willing to fight for it.
"Karl Wizard."
Ined pursed her lips:
"When we return to the Leipzig Market, can Zoe work in your shop for a while?"
"You know..."
"The Nelson family might not be safe for a while."
"This..." Karl thought for a moment, then nodded:
"If it's just work, there's no problem."
Whether the vortex spirit butterfly was safely delivered to the First Rank Late-stage wizard of the Nelson family remains unknown to Karl.
However, he could sense that in the following days, the atmosphere in the Leipzig Market became increasingly tense.
"I wonder if the Sixth Circle Tower can suppress the Andrew Clan, and I hope there won't be any more trouble."
"It doesn't matter!"
"You fight your battles, as long as you don't hinder me, I can find the resources I need in the Foreign World."
Karl glanced at the gloomy sky and muttered to himself, then stepped outside.
As he left the market, he rubbed his face, and in an instant, he transformed into a burly man with thick eyebrows and big eyes.
With the shapeshifting ability of the bloodline sorcery and the legendary knight's control over their aura, he could achieve perfect transformation.
Even if Omar stood before him, he would never recognize him.
The Beast Arena.
The place where the Andrew Clan sold beast meat.
Even before approaching, the thick smell of blood and various animal odors assaulted their senses. The ground was filled with trenches, and blood mixed with filth flowed through them, requiring careful steps to avoid falling in.
This is a place where only those of lower status would come.
Not only would a noble wizard not come here to buy meat, but even a wizard apprentice would rarely do so.
Even though the prices here are slightly cheaper than the market.
Karl walked against the flow of people and waved at a short-haired man at the back where the meat was stored.
"Vincent!"
"Oh!" Vincent turned at the sound of his name, a smile spreading across his face. "It's the esteemed customer, Joti. I thought you had forgotten about the meat you stored here."
"Of course not," Karl smiled. "It's tens of thousands of pounds of meat. I was hoping to make a profit from it."
"Then you're in for a disappointment," Vincent said. "The price of meat has risen recently, but not by much. You won't lose money at most."
"What a pity," Karl sighed. "Where is it?"
"This way."
Vincent waved, and the two of them went to a warehouse at the back. Vincent had someone open the heavy door, revealing stacks of frozen meat inside.
A quick scan showed that there were probably around four to fifty thousand pounds of meat! Fifty thousand pounds may seem like a lot, but it's only a little over two hundred tons. It could easily fit into a few houses if they were packed tightly.
It could even fit into a fragment of the Divine Realm.
"What a hassle."
Karl nodded in satisfaction.
"I'll take it away now."
Soon after, as Karl left, Vincent waved and called over a young man.
"Tell them, he's gone."
"Uncle."
The young man hesitated and spoke softly, "This person was introduced by Wizard Karl of the Sixth Circle Tower. Do we really want to have someone deal with him?"
"Sixth Circle Tower..." Vincent narrowed his eyes. "So what?"
"Besides, it's not our Andrew Family doing it, it's the people from the Dark Fortress. It has nothing to do with us."
"Furthermore..."
"That's tens of thousands of pounds of meat, enough to supply a village for a year. From what he said, it seems he might need more in the future. We don't want other forces near the market."
"Yes, sir," the young man replied and hurried off.
...
With the meat in hand, Karl was in high spirits.
'The mysterious seller mentioned by Meren should have arrived. Tomorrow, when I go to the Foreign World, I hope to acquire a suitable Sacred Technique.'
'If not, I might as well exchange it for a Breathing Technique. It's said that the Hundred Faces Breathing Technique has a higher rank than the Colossal Breath Technique, and the key is that it can adapt to most Sacred Techniques passed down from the Divine Realm...'
'I have a fragment of the Divine Realm, so theoretically, I can grant myself any Breathing Technique of the gods.'
'By the way, which god passed down the Hundred Faces Breathing Technique?'
"Hmm?"
As Karl walked, he frowned slightly, sensing a faint gaze upon him.
There were no mental power fluctuations, indicating it wasn't a psychic probe.
But Karl was not only a formal wizard but also a legendary knight, and his physical senses were equally sharp.
"No way, just buying some fine meat for ordinary people, and someone is secretly keeping an eye on me?"
"Vincent..."
"I thought this person was genuine, and he even used the name of the Sixth Circle Tower. How dare he?"
"Today, a feud has been started!"
His gaze shifted to a bird perched on a tree not far away, and he turned around discreetly.
"Using a bird to tail me, a Bloodline Wizard?"
As he approached the market's outskirts, Karl tapped his foot and quickly dashed forward, closing in on the market.
Whoever it was, by blending into the crowd, they could ensure their safety.
The street was right in front of him.
Just as Karl was about to merge into the crowd, he suddenly retreated, his face turning solemn.
A faint layer of white light had appeared on the ground ahead, seemingly out of nowhere.
"A magic trap!"
"Huh?"
He raised an eyebrow and looked around, only to find that his surroundings had changed.
What should have been a narrow alleyway had suddenly become a dense forest.
This was...
An illusion!
Karl had encountered similar illusions before; the scenes created by the Neve Mirror were similar.
But with the mirror, he entered it willingly, allowing the illusion to map onto his mental sea. Now, he was being forcibly pulled into one.
"An illusion is still an illusion, especially one of such low rank. Wanting to trap me is nothing but a pipe dream."
Karl stood still, his eyes flickering with lightning.
Thunder God's Wrath!
Violent mental power transformed into thunder, striking at the beings affecting his mental sea.
"Eeek!"
A shrill, eerie cry rang out as a ghost-headed monster perched on a nearby wall fell to the ground, its head exploding.
