Chapter 157: The Beast Approaches!
Chapter 157: The Beast Approaches!
At 4 a.m. on the Padian Sea, the darkness of the night lay like still water, and a brightly lit ship floated quietly on the pitch-black ocean.
This was a fishing boat with fifteen fishermen from the Padian region on board.
After a long day of work, the fishermen retired early, eager to rest before transporting their catch to the nearby cities for sale the next day.
In the duty room, two fishermen in sleeveless vests were dozing off, assigned to keep watch for the night.
Unforeseen events often occurred at sea—sudden storms, tsunamis, or even attacks by wild Pokemon—so it was customary to have a few crew members on duty each night.
Suddenly, a crisp ding-dong rang out.
The sound startled one of the dozing fishermen, Ijita, who rubbed his eyes and yawned loudly.
He glanced around, but there was no sign of rain or wind, and everything seemed calm.
"Another uneventful night," Ijita yawned again, patting the head of his sleeping companion, Mosquito-man, before preparing to doze off again.
Just then, his sharp eyes caught sight of the radar monitor.
A massive silhouette was rapidly approaching just a few kilometers below the surface, visible on the greenish radar screen.
Ijita's drowsiness vanished in an instant, and he jolted awake.
He quickly shook his companion awake, shouting, "Matsumoto! Wake up! We've got a situation here!"
"What is it?" grumbled Matsumoto, irritated at being roused from his deep sleep. "What's going on?"
Ijita pointed at the radar screen, his voice filled with alarm. "There's something huge moving rapidly toward us in the water!"
Matsumoto lifted his head and, upon seeing the massive object on the screen, his eyes widened in shock.
"What is that?! Is it a Pokemon?"
"No!" Ijita shook his head. "I don't recognize the silhouette! The only Pokemon that big in the sea is Wailord, but this is even larger!"
He jumped to his feet and sounded the alarm. "We need to prepare everyone, now!"
The blaring alarm startled the sleeping crew members.
They rushed to the deck and the radar room, their faces reflecting their horror as they grasped the situation.
"What is that thing?!"
"It's enormous! Dozens of meters in size! Could it be a sea monster from the depths?!"
"My grandmother used to tell me stories about terrifying sea monsters that would rise up to destroy humanity if we disrespected the ocean!"
"Don't be ridiculous! There's no such thing in this world! Everyone, stay calm! Prepare for the worst! Tian Gu, start the engine! We need to get out of here!"
The crew snapped into action, though their efforts to start the ship were frantic and disorganized.
But soon, someone realized the dreadful truth—the object was moving faster than their ship!
"We're doomed! It's too late; it's almost beneath us!"
"Something's wrong; the fog is getting thicker!"
"Damn it! It's here! The radar shows it's surging upward; it'll breach the surface in ten seconds! No, seven! Six! Five!"
A thick mist had enveloped the air without anyone noticing.
The once calm sea now churned with towering waves that crashed against the small fishing boat.
The crew stared at the mist floating on the dark waters, their hearts filled with dread.
"Three! Two! It's coming up!"
"Splash!"
An enormous black shadow surged from the depths, sending massive waves crashing against the tiny fishing boat, which was helplessly tossed about like a leaf in a storm.
Instinctively, the fishermen looked towards the source of the disturbance.
The moonlight and mist intertwined, and in the haze, they craned their necks to gaze up at the massive black silhouette.
In that moment, everyone was awestruck by the spectacle.
Fear gripped their hearts.
Someone shouted in a trembling voice, "A monster... it's a monster! The monster is here!"
His voice rang out clearly in the still night.
The others remained silent, simply staring at the dark shape.
Suddenly, the shadow moved.
The gigantic Drapion, separated from the two youngsters of the Adventurer's Guild, gazed towards the distant, unfamiliar land.
It felt a mix of anticipation and tension.
Following the route provided by Dream, it had made its way here, though it had accidentally gotten lost along the way.
The first time, it had ended up in a place covered in ice and snow.
The second time, it found an isolated island, where it encountered strange humans and Pokemon.
Someone named Master told it that it was not meant to be there.
Now, after wandering for a whole day, it had finally reached this place.
With this in mind, the gigantic Drapion lifted its foot and slowly but determinedly took one step after another towards its destination.
"Roar!"
A solitary, melancholy roar echoed from its mouth, drifting across the vast sea.
Hearing this, the people on the boat paused, then murmured,
"What kind of creature is that?"
"Is its target the Padian region?!"
Soon, someone reacted.
"This is bad! It's so huge! If it reaches the land, it'll destroy the city!"
"But we can't stop it!"
"Quick, call the police, notify Miss Kisha and the Padian League! We need trainers to stop this guy!"
"Yes!"
Immediately, someone scrambled to their feet, located the radio communication equipment, and contacted the nearest police station.
Soon, the call was connected.
"This is the Great Pot Lake Police Department, and I'm Miss Kisha!"
Hearing Miss Kisha's voice on the other end of the line, the fisherman stammered,
"Th-this is the Padian fishing boat. We've encountered a monster in the open sea! It's heading towards the Padian region! Please stop it! Don't let it reach the shore!"
Hearing this, Miss Kisha was taken aback for a moment.
Her first instinct told her that this was a prank call.
However, after a brief silence, she calmly ordered, "Give me your exact location!"
"Padian West Sea, approximately 32 degrees east longitude and 127 degrees north latitude!"
"Got it!" Miss Kisha quickly located the position on the map.
She geared up and climbed the nearest lighthouse by the sea, using a telescope to scan the distance.
The next second, she spotted a gigantic shadow shrouded in mist in the far horizon.
"This is... really not good!"
This situation was beyond the capabilities of their small police department.
Miss Kisha frowned, her mind racing as she took out her communication device and swiftly reported the incident to the Padian League.
