Chapter 156: Haste Makes Waste
Chapter 156: Haste Makes Waste
"It's probably a scam."
Jiang Cheng nodded, "I was wondering how such a good opportunity could exist. Working six days a week, from nine to six, and earning five thousand a month."
"Yeah, it's definitely a scam."
The senior security guard nodded emphatically.
Then, he glanced around and whispered, "A few months ago, someone from our area went missing because of this."
"Missing?" Jiang Cheng's voice rose in volume.
"Shh."
The senior guard made a gesture for silence, "Young man, keep your voice down. Our leaders don't want us talking about this, but..."
He looked at the cigarette in his hand, almost finished, and smiled.
Jiang Cheng passed him another one and also offered one to the guard beside him.
"Young man, I'm telling you this, but you mustn't tell anyone else that I was the one who told you."
The senior guard took a satisfying puff and continued, "Actually, people have been going missing for a while now, and it hasn't stopped. Most of the missing are women, especially young and beautiful ones! Some were walking along the road at night when a van suddenly appeared and abducted them. Others, like you said, were victims of scams."
"Tell me more."
The senior guard gave Jiang Cheng a knowing look.
"Just a couple of months ago, a woman from the neighborhood went missing. She was offered a job with high pay, but once she left, she never returned."
"Do you know where she went?"
"Who knows?"
The senior guard took a drag from his cigarette, "Some say she was taken as a sacrifice, others say she was sent to a nightclub as a hostess. In any case, the outcome is likely not good."
"A sacrifice?" Jiang Cheng's eyes widened.
"There are some lunatics who specialize in this. Those they target usually meet a terrible fate." As the senior guard spoke, fear flashed in his eyes, and he quickly waved his hands, "Let's not talk about this. It's creepy even in broad daylight."
Jiang Cheng nodded and then asked, "Was a report ever filed?"
"Yes, but it wasn't very useful. If only we had this..."
The junior guard rubbed his fingers together.
Jiang Cheng understood.
"Young man, if you have female family members at home, you must warn them not to walk alone at night and to always be cautious."
The senior guard finished his cigarette and sighed.
"This outer borough isn't as safe as it seems. But it's still better than the slums outside. During the day, people are afraid to go out, let alone at night."
"That's true. I heard the gangs there are rampant. If you offend them, they dare to kill even in broad daylight." The junior guard chimed in.
"I have a favor to ask of you two. If you agree, I'll give you this pack of cigarettes, and I'll continue to provide more in the future."
Hearing this, the two guards exchanged a glance.
"Young man, tell us what it is first. Our abilities are limited, and if we can't do it, it's better not to agree."
"Yeah, that's right."
The other guard echoed.
They wouldn't risk their lives for a mere three thousand a month.
"It's not a big deal."
Jiang Cheng smiled slightly.
"Later, there will be a mother and daughter going out to set up a stall to mend clothes. They're my family, and although I have my own matters to attend to, I can't always be by their side. I'm asking you two to keep an eye on them, and if anything happens, call me."
"Oh, I see. Just keeping an eye on them won't be a problem. Young man, leave your number, but I must say, if something happens, we might not be of much help.
"Don't worry, just keep an eye on them."
As Jiang Cheng spoke, he handed over a pack of cigarettes.
"Oh, young man, you're too kind. Rest assured, with us keeping watch, your family won't have any problems."
"That's right. If anything happens, we'll call you'll be the first to call you."
The two men were overjoyed.
This small favor was as easy as pie.
"Then I'll have to trouble you two, brothers."
After Jiang Cheng finished speaking, he walked out towards the outside.
His gaze turned cold.
Of course, he wouldn't completely rely on these two security guards for such a matter.
Therefore, he decided to take matters into his own hands and see who these people were and what their intentions were.
Even if the Dawn Society found out, he had his reasons.
There was still some time before Chen Sao and the others set up their stall, so Jiang Cheng decided to find a nearby shop and sit down for a cup of tea.
At the same time, in a secluded corner.
Three people were gathered, occasionally glancing towards the entrance of the estate.
There were three of them, two men and one woman.
The two men appeared to be in their twenties, looking very similar, as if they were brothers. Both had a rogue-like demeanor, giving off an unapproachable vibe.
The woman was in her forties, dressed in a bright red outfit, with slightly small eyes that gave her an astute appearance.
"Big Sis, what about those two people you mentioned?"
One of the men asked.
"What's the rush?"
The middle-aged woman glared at him, "Don't you know that haste makes waste?"
"Alright, Second Bro, just calm down."
The other man spoke up, looking at the middle-aged woman, "Big Sis, are those two really as amazing as you say?"
"Nonsense."
The middle-aged woman huffed, "Do you think my judgment is that poor? One of them is in her thirties, the prime age for a woman's allure, and the other is around seventeen or eighteen, a budding beauty. If they were sold to a nightclub, they'd fetch a high price. Those two are the ones!"
She quickly gestured with her eyes.
The two men looked, and indeed, two women walked out from the entrance. Their eyes lit up.
The one in front seemed to be in her thirties, with long hair and a faint smile that exuded gentleness.
The one slightly behind was around seventeen or eighteen, with a pair of dark, sparkling eyes and long eyelashes that trembled slightly. Her every move radiated youthful vitality.
"Wow, Big Sis, they seem to be a mother and daughter pair!" The younger brother couldn't help but drool.
"Big Sis, if we get them, can we have some fun first?" The older brother's eyes gleamed with desire.
"Don't you already have two at home?"
"Big Sis."
The two pleaded.
"The older one is fine, but not the younger one."
The middle-aged woman narrowed her eyes, "The younger one is clearly a delicate flower, she'll definitely fetch a high price."
"Great! I prefer older women." The younger brother's mouth watered.
"Big Sis, have you talked to them already?" The older brother, thinking of something, asked anxiously.
"Don't worry."
The middle-aged woman smiled triumphantly, "After a few words yesterday, I found out all about them. They're probably from out of town, and don't have much money. Yesterday, they were already tempted, and today, if I add a little more fuel to the fire, they'll surely follow me obediently."
"That's great, Big Sis, you should go now." The younger brother urged.
"Look at you, so impatient!"
The middle-aged woman glared at him again, "Are you afraid the birds will fly away before you can catch them? They're probably waiting for me right now, let them wait a bit longer, until they're anxious, then I'll go."
