Chapter 156: Aftermath
Chapter 156: Aftermath
"As long as it's handled."
Link wiped the sweat from his forehead and anxiously glanced at the two bodies lying on the ground.
Being a direct subsidiary of the World Government, Carnival City ironically had no local Marine presence. These Marines were here on vacation, and settling them would ensure no one learns of their dealings).
"Alright, go and prepare the money. Old Hawk, follow him, and bring the money back."
Sarge walked back to the nightclub and instructed.
"Understood."
Hawkins nodded and fixed his gaze on Link. "Let's go, and please refrain from doing anything unnecessary."
Link glared at him. "When I was partnering with Sarge, you weren't even around yet. My credibility is also assured!"
Without another word, Hawkins followed Link out of the nightclub.
"Get a few people to clean this mess!"
Back in the original room, Sarge shouted and poured himself a drink.
As for the accompanying female performers.
they had already fled in terror when the fighting broke out.
Such cowardice wouldn't cut it for his cabaret troupe.
"I guess I'll have to keep looking." Sarge sighed.
The orchestras were the same. Too weak, they couldn't even bear the sudden burst of his king's might, and by the end of a performance, they were basically drained.
That was the oppressive pressure of Haoshoku Haki, guiding their spirits to react, and Sarge could feel it. These people had expended a lot of spiritual energy and would probably need to rest for a few days to recover.
An hour later, the executives gradually arrived at the nightclub.
Akin had previously sent out signals, and by letting his subordinates deliberately go and inform, the executives naturally know where Sarge was.
The first to arrive was Lily.
Her knight's skirt was covered in blood droplets, even her delicate face had some splattered.
Behind her, subordinates, either in burlap sacks or carrying cases, were filled with money and deeds.
"Lily, did you go on a killing spree?"
At the sight of Lily's face dotted with blood, Sarge took another empty glass, poured her a drink.
"The people here are too much."
Lily sat next to Sarge, took the glass and finished it in one go. "Those noble tycoons, only know how to entrap people in endless labor, but gain nothing. The true beneficiaries are those exploiters, they're even more despicable than the king, as if they were treating people like cattle."
Hearing this, Sarge laughed: "Lily, do you know what's the difference between people and livestock?"
Lily looked over.
Sarge said: Livestock is property. If they're tired, the owner will let them rest. If they're sick, they'll treat them. As for people. they can only drink something stimulating if they're tired and seek out the hospital themselves if they're ill."
Lily: "..."
"It wouldn't have become like this if you were ruling, Sarge."
"Of course, I'm a person who believes in if I eat meat, others should have the soup, and together, we can live better lives than before, so there's sustainable rule."
Sarge laughed: "Forcing people to hard labor and voluntarily engaging in it are completely different. These people are too stupid. They've wasted such a good place. If it were given to me, I'd definitely have to iterate on a new strategy, complete a profit loop, and realize self-worth. Carnival City would definitely be more prosperous than it is now!"
This place is prosperous, but unfortunately, it's not his.
Until he seizes a territory in the New World, he'll also remodel a place with this model and make it even more flourishing.
About twenty minutes later, Marica was the second to enter the nightclub.
Marica was slightly better off than Lily; although there was no blood on her body, there were traces of blood-red on her hair, indicating that she had taken out quite a few people as well.
Marica had also lost her temper here because she had seen starving children who were even forced back when they tried to beg for food. They were left to starve to death unless they handed over their houses to those people.
What she couldn't stand the most was this, and since Sarge had already given the order, it would kill two birds with one stone.
"Oh, it's quite lively here."
She glanced at the Marines at the door and smiled, "Sarge, is it all taken care of?"
"Just about. We'll leave once Renitia arrives and we get the money."
Sarge held up three fingers, "We sold it for three billion berries. That's not a small sum, Lily. Once we're back, inform Donflamingo that I want to invest more—an additional one billion and five hundred million!"
"Understood." Lily made a note of it.
Soon, Renitia arrived with her people and plopped herself angrily on the sofa. "Sarge, this is so infuriating! I want a drink too!"
"No alcohol for minors. Someone, get her a glass of juice!" Sarge snapped.
One of his subordinates walked to the bar and poured a glass of orange juice, which he then delivered to Renitia.
These three women maintained a calm demeanor, but if one looked closely, they could detect something amiss.
They were in low spirits.
"Alright, alright, no need to be like that. We're just pirates, pirates who specialize in robbery, and we can't meddle in everything. Of course, pirates are free, so it's normal to intervene when you see something you don't like. Just do what you think is right, and the rest doesn't matter."
Sarge clapped his hands and laughed, "If you really want to make a difference, then wait until I rule the world! Ho ho ho ho!"
"Then, when you rule the world, you must order those despicable people to respect their inventions and stop scamming others with counterfeits!" Renitia exclaimed.
"You can give that order yourself!" Sarge retorted.
"Yes, it's better if I give the order myself."
Marica smiled and said, "For other matters, as long as we follow Sarge, everything will fall into place."
"It's good that you have confidence in me because I'm the captain, and I have confidence in myself as well."
Sarge raised his hand and clenched it tightly, "No need to think too much. Let's first finish what we set out to do!"
Before long, Link arrived with the other black market businessmen, carrying thirty black briefcases.
These men were his companions from the Rogue Town days, and they had worked together as black market traders, even after entering the Grand Line.
The thirty briefcases contained a total of three billion berries, which they exchanged for the deeds that Sarge had obtained.
"It's been a pleasure doing business. If you ever come to the New World and I've secured my territory, we'll have plenty of opportunities to collaborate!"
After Sarge's men took the money, they left.
Link was left staring at the deeds in the sacks, deep in thought.
"What should we do now? Should we sell them? Even at half the price, someone would still want them," one of the businessmen suggested.
"Don't do something so foolish!"
Link gritted his teeth and said, "We shouldn't sell the deeds to people's houses, not even for a single berry. We should stand with the citizens, and for the profit-making industries, we should report to Lord Umite. He'll be interested. We might be taking a loss on this trip, but as long as we secure one of those industries, we'll have a foothold! It's worth spending money to buy our way in!"
