Chapter 155: Truly a Family
Chapter 155: Truly a Family
Lv Yang now understood the entire situation.
From his perspective, there was actually a compromise between the Heaven-Mending Peak Master and Lady Ruoxiang regarding their children. For instance, Lady Ruoxiang could have chosen to end her life early through reincarnation, then used a secret technique to awaken her reincarnated soul through her children’s efforts. The Heaven-Mending Peak Master could then use those same children to endure tribulations, maximizing their potential. However, such a plan required mutual trust—an element clearly missing between the two.
This made sense. After all, the Holy Sect thrived not on trust but on shared interests or mutual leverage.
“I understand your intentions,” Lv Yang finally said, addressing the Heaven-Mending Peak Master. “But why should I help you? Your master’s cultivation is formidable—neither of us could defeat him alone.”
Lady Ruoxiang countered with an unrelated question: “Do you know why the Holy Sect has the Inner Sect’s Four Peaks?”
Lv Yang shook his head. He’d long wondered why, despite the Holy Sect granting independent sanctuaries in the Sky-Connecting Sea of Clouds to any Foundation-Building True Man, the Four Peaks remained permanently fixed. Even when a peak master died without a successor, their positions were never revoked.
“It’s due to ancestral blessings,” Lady Ruoxiang explained. “The original peak masters were trusted allies of our sect’s founder, who promised they’d retain their status as long as the Holy Flame Cliff endured.”
This oath held weight. The Primordial Sacred Sect’s founder—a Nascent Soul Formation Sovereign—still lived, and no one dared defy his word.
“Unfortunately, descendants often fail to uphold their ancestors’ legacies,” she sighed. “Over time, the Four Peaks weakened, forcing them to recruit outsiders.”
It was logical. With the founders having endured all hardships, later generations grew complacent, reluctant to strive. Eventually, decline was inevitable. To preserve their status despite this decay, the Four Peaks had no choice but to seek external aid.
“Chen Taihe was such an outsider,” Lady Ruoxiang said bitterly. “He rose to prominence at Heaven-Mending Peak and became my family’s son-in-law. With our support, he cultivated to Foundation-Building True Man. But afterward, he turned against us, suppressing my kin who surpassed me in talent and backing me instead—ensuring I’d remain stuck at Foundation-Building Initial Stage, never threatening his position.”
Her eyes glistened with tears, evoking pity.
Lv Yang, however, didn’t believe a word. After all this sob story, where were the benefits for him?
As his impatience grew, Lady Ruoxiang shifted tactics. “Chen Taihe was an outsider who gained power. You could be next. I’ll swear a Karmic Causality Vow: kill Chen Taihe, and you’ll become the new Heaven-Mending Peak Master. Imagine the status, resources, and influence—you’d surpass even his current cultivation. But first, eliminate him.”
She stepped closer, her voice softening. “Heaven-Mending Peak’s treasures—all of it—would be yours… including me.”
Lv Yang glanced at her, his gaze lingering on her pale skin before meeting her eyes. “Respect yourself, madam. I have no interest in such matters.”
The next morning, Lv Yang watched her leave, having agreed to their alliance—not out of loyalty, but to avenge his past humiliation. Lady Ruoxiang had shared her plan: her father intended to use their children, Xin’an and Shuqian, as tribulation shields, but she’d sabotage Shuqian’s role. Lv Yang kept his own strategy secret—Xin’an would be dealt with personally, then sent away from Luo Feng Mountain.
Days later, a second visitor arrived: Chen Shuqian, the Heaven-Mending Peak Master’s daughter.
“Qian’er greets the Elder Slaughter,” she bowed, her smile radiant.
Lv Yang studied her. Their only prior meeting had been in a past life, when he’d encountered her through Yu Shuzhen’s body. Back then, she’d been a dutiful daughter—now, she radiated defiance.
“Congratulations on your Foundation-Building success,” he said. “You’ve joined our ranks.”
“Your praise is too kind,” she replied, lips bitten. “My achievement was narrow—nothing compared to your past glories.”
Lv Yang sensed her secrecy. “You came here without your father’s knowledge. Isn’t that risky?”
“What risk?” she scoffed. “He’s busy protecting my brother. He won’t notice.”
Her words triggered deja vu. “Then why are you here?”
As expected, her expression hardened. “I wish to kill my parents and gain true freedom. I beg your help.”
Lv Yang stared. So much for family.
Chen Shuqian’s declaration confirmed what he’d suspected: their daughter had seen through both parents’ schemes.
This is the Holy Sect, he mused, masking his thoughts. “What’s in it for me?”
She answered swiftly: “My Dao Foundation is the Phoenix Harmony Foundation, a sixth-grade technique created by my father to complement the Nine Metamorphosis Dragon Art. When combined with a Ten-Thousand-Chariot Dragon Sovereign Foundation cultivator, it produces the Azure Phoenix Noon Flame—a healing fire that mends physical wounds. My father intended to use it to absorb his thunder tribulations. I offer it to you—save my life, and it’s yours.”
Lv Yang paused, realizing she hadn’t coordinated with Lady Ruoxiang. Otherwise, she wouldn’t be pleading for survival—Lady Ruoxiang had no intention of killing her. This could be free profit.
