Chapter 155: On the Road
Chapter 155: On the Road
Bear Cub recalled the gentle and hardworking Dragonite from Naoki's ranch.
In comparison to that Dragonite, this one was like night and day.
It was just too overwhelming...
Bear Cub was stunned, worried that a single misstep from this Dragonite might accidentally crush it.
On the other hand, the experienced Mew kept a calm demeanor.
It led Bear Cub towards the sea, flying towards the massive shadow.
Mew's speed was remarkable, and within two minutes, they had caught up to the gigantic Dragonite.
Sensing the unfamiliar presences approaching, the giant Dragonite turned its head and beheld two figures it had never seen before.
Mew tilted its head, letting out a curious "Miu?"
Initially, Bear Cub felt a bit afraid.
But as it drew closer, it sensed a profound loneliness emanating from the massive Dragonite.
Bear Cub's breath hitched as it recalled the purpose of the Adventurer's Guild. It asked, "Yimo, yimo yimo!" ("We are from the Adventurer's Guild, here to help any Pokemon in need! Perhaps we can be of assistance?")
Mew, by its side, nodded gently and happily chimed in, "Miu!"
It didn't sense any malicious intent from this enormous Pokemon.
Hearing these words, the giant Dragonite stared at the two creatures before it, filled with confusion.
It asked, "Huo Wu?" ("What is the Adventurer's Guild?")
Bear Cub explained, "Yimo!" ("It's a mysterious organization that travels the world, helping Pokemon in need. Mew here is one of our adventurers! I'm still an apprentice, though.")
It gestured to Mew, indicating that it was the adventurer.
The giant Dragonite turned its gaze to Mew, taking in its beautiful, sky-blue eyes.
"Huo Wu?" it asked, a glimmer of hope igniting in its heart, which had almost fallen into despair.
"Can you really help?" it queried.
Mew nodded enthusiastically and replied, "Miu!"
The giant Dragonite asked again, "Huo Wu?" ("Can you help me find my companions?")
For the past few days, it had been roaming this area, searching for its fellow Dragonite.
Today, it had been drawn here by sounds that resembled those of its companions, but it hadn't been able to find them nearby.
Find its companions?
Bear Cub and Mew blinked, exchanging a glance.
Mew inquired, "Miu?" ("Are your companions also Dragonite?")
The giant Dragonite nodded its head. Seeing the looks on their faces, its eyes filled with hope, and it asked eagerly, "Huo Wu?" ("Have you seen them?")
"Yimo..." Bear Cub shook its head, thinking that it hadn't encountered any other Dragonite in the area.
As the giant Dragonite's gaze fell with disappointment, Bear Cub added, "Yimo, yimo." ("But I do know of another Dragonite, although I'm not sure if it's one of your companions. It's very far from here.")
It was referring to the Dragonite from Naoki's ranch.
Upon hearing this, the giant Dragonite's eyes lit up.
It asked urgently, "Huo Wu?" ("Where is it?")
Bear Cub replied, "Yimo." ("It's in the Paldea region, at Naoki's ranch. They live together.")
Paldea region... Naoki's ranch...
The giant Dragonite committed these two pieces of information to memory.
However, it soon realized that it didn't know the exact location.
"Miu~"
Seeing its anxious expression, Mew smiled and then, with a flash of blue light in its eyes, conveyed the image of the ranch and Naoki's appearance to the giant Dragonite.
With the knowledge of its companions' whereabouts, the giant Dragonite was eager to depart.
Its massive form slowly disappeared over the sea, blending into the thick mist.
The nearby seas returned to their clear and calm state.
Now, it was time to write a letter to Naoki and inform him about what had transpired.
"Miu~" Mew readily agreed.
With the mysterious shadow incident resolved, the two Pokemon first headed to their client, Kingler, to relay the news.
Upon hearing that the gigantic Pokemon would no longer trouble the area, Kingler heaved a sigh of relief and gratefully thanked the Adventurer's Guild. It even offered to treat them to a seaweed feast.
However, Mew and Bear Cub politely declined.
As righteous adventurers who traveled the world to help those in need, they would never accept any form of payment from the people they protected.
Kingler's gratitude only deepened upon hearing this.
After bidding farewell to Kingler, Mew and Bear Cub returned to their temporary tree-cave base, crafted with Mew's Secret Power.
The two Pokemon retrieved some crayons and paper from the corner and proceeded to draw the events of their encounter that day.
Once their letter was complete, they entrusted it to a Pidgeot they had befriended in the forest, asking it to deliver the message to the ranch.
The Pidgeot grasped the envelope with its talons, gave a cheerful call to Mew and Bear Cub, and then took flight, its majestic wings carrying it toward the distant ranch.
---
The next morning, the sun shone brightly.
Naoki first checked on Diglett's progress at the Salt House before riding his Motostoke Pokemon to Ceri's cottage.
As he entered, his eyes immediately fell upon the shelf where a statue of a crowned Pokemon stood.
Compared to his own carving, Ceri's craftsmanship was incredibly lifelike and detailed.
Naoki picked up one of the statues and examined it for a while before asking, "How are sales going?"
A smile played on Ceri's face as she replied, "They're selling for 2,000 Pokedollars each, and they're very popular! Quite a few farmers have bought statues from me to display in their homes."
"I heard that if the summer crops turn out well, the farmers plan to hold a special Thanksgiving festival in the fall to express their gratitude to the Crowned Pokemon," Ceri added.
Naoki was left speechless.
The Crowned Pokemon would surely be delighted to hear about this development.
By all accounts, the Crowned Pokemon's missionary work in the Paldea region was proceeding smoothly.
Naoki wondered if the Crowned Pokemon had regained some of its strength.
However, the reason for his visit today wasn't related to that. He wanted to discuss the expansion of the Salt House.
But before he could bring it up, Ceri tossed a package his way.
Instinctively, Naoki reached out and caught it. "What's this?"
"It's your share of the profits from the statue sales," Ceri explained.
Naoki opened the package and, as expected, found a substantial sum of money inside.
He accepted it without hesitation and then asked, "If I want to expand the Salt House, how can I prevent the dug-out cave from collapsing?"
Ceri looked surprised. "You want to dig a cave underneath the Salt House?"
Naoki shook his head and then nodded. "Not exactly. I have a Diglett currently working at my ranch. It's been helping me with some digging."
Understanding dawned on Ceri's face, and she nodded. "That's simple. I can take care of it this afternoon. Just have Diglett stop for now, and I'll make sure the underground area is safe and stable for you."
"Alright," Naoki acknowledged.
After bidding farewell to Ceri, Naoki returned to his ranch.
That afternoon, as Naoki was preparing a cream slushie for his Alolan Ninetales, an unfamiliar Pokemon's cry rang out from outside.
He stepped out to investigate and spotted a Pidgeot landing in his ranch.
Clutched in its talons was a letter.
Recognizing the scenario, Naoki's heart skipped a beat. He immediately realized that Bear Cub had sent him another letter!
