Chapter 1549: Backstab
Chapter 1549: Backstab
"This is impossible!"
Voldemort widened his eyes in disbelief. How could he, the possessor of the Elder Wand, lose a contest of magical strength?
"That's why Harry said your ignorance is laughable," Albert replied with a twisted smile. "You killed the wrong person from the start. Severus Snape was never the true master of the ancient wand. By killing him, you naturally couldn't become its master or harness its true power." Albert's tone held a hint of malicious glee. "How do you like this little surprise Dumbledore left for you?"
A fleeting look of shock crossed Voldemort's face, but it quickly vanished. It didn't take him long to guess who the true owner of the wand was.
"Draco Malfoy!" Voldemort hissed.
He had sent Draco to assassinate Dumbledore, and it was most likely during that time that Dumbledore had stealthily transferred ownership of the Elder Wand to the young Malfoy, who remained unaware of it to this day.
Undoubtedly, that was the safest move, and Voldemort, blinded by his hatred, would never have suspected it.
"Oh, I see you've guessed who the true master of the Elder Wand is," Albert said, unconcerned that Voldemort now knew the "truth."
"With my dueling skills, you cannot kill me," Voldemort asserted.
Albert's attitude put Voldemort on edge. Having lost the advantage of the Horcruxes and the Elder Wand, he had no intention of risking his life in a prolonged confrontation with Albert.
Voldemort, no longer interested in the fight, suddenly transformed into a cloud of black smoke and rose into the air, intending to first kill the true master of the Elder Wand, Draco Malfoy, and only then deal with Albert Anderson.
As Voldemort withdrew his power, the Avada Kedavra curse, pushed back by the golden spell, unfortunately, struck a Death Eater standing behind Voldemort, instantly taking his life.
The sudden turn of events left everyone stunned. They couldn't understand why Voldemort had simply turned and fled.
"Do you really think you can get away?" Albert asked.
As soon as he finished speaking, a barrage of spells rained down, blocking all of Voldemort's escape routes. The dark wizard, who had just taken to the air, was knocked back down to the ground with a loud thud, right in front of the stunned crowd.
Voldemort scrambled to his feet, only to sense a spell rushing toward him with lightning speed.
Even if it was just a simple Disarming Charm, Voldemort dared not be careless. He raised his wand to intercept Albert's spell and deflected it to the side.
"Don't waste your energy," Albert said as he walked forward, waving his wand. "The moment you killed Harry Potter and returned to your mortal form, your death here was sealed."
As Albert cast spells, he pulled at most of Voldemort's energy, intensifying the pressure on him.
As people watched the uneven duel in shock, a figure among the Death Eaters behind Voldemort stealthily raised his wand, aiming it at the two dueling wizards.
"Watch out!" came a sharp cry of warning.
The crowd saw Yaxley raise his wand and cast a spell at the dueling pair.
Amid the angry shouts of the crowd, Voldemort, locked in combat with Albert, was shocked to find his body frozen in place.
Someone had ambushed him! And the spell that hit him had come from behind!
In his wildest dreams, Voldemort never imagined that one of his Death Eaters would betray and ambush him.
As Voldemort's wand flew out of his hand, he still couldn't comprehend why his servant would turn against him.
Shouldn't they have targeted Albert Anderson instead?
Not just Voldemort, but everyone except Albert was stunned by this unexpected turn of events.
They all stared, astonished, at Yaxley, who had betrayed Voldemort at this critical moment. Why would he do such a thing?
But none of that mattered anymore! Not only had Voldemort been disarmed by Albert's spell, but he was now completely bound by the Full Body-Bind Curse.
He had lost, and lost utterly.
The scene was reminiscent of the time when Snape had stabbed Dumbledore, and now Voldemort, too, had been stabbed in the back by one of his own at the most crucial moment.
The difference was that Dumbledore's death had been by his own choice, while Voldemort's defeat had been orchestrated by others.
Yaxley's ambush served as a wake-up call, and the Death Eaters, snapping out of their daze, tried to attack Albert to buy time for Voldemort.
However, as soon as they raised their wands, they felt a searing pain in their arms. A spell sliced through their limbs, and hands and wands fell to the ground.
"Dumbledore had planned everything, including leaving it to me to finish you off," Albert said, ignoring the commotion around him. He pointed his wand at Voldemort, who was immobilized by the Full Body-Bind Curse. A golden flame erupted from the tip of Albert's wand, engulfing Voldemort entirely.
"Ah!"
A painful scream pierced the night. Voldemort's body was enveloped in golden flames, and Albert pursed his lips to ensure his voice reached Voldemort's ears, if he was still alive.
"By the way, the wand in your hand is a fake. The real Elder Wand is in my possession, which is why you lost so miserably in our duel."
Albert raised his wand again, and an eerie green light shot out, striking the charred body lying on the ground.
Everyone froze at Albert's action, but they soon understood. After all, the enemy was Voldemort, and it was better to be safe than sorry.
However, as they snapped out of their daze and looked at the charred body on the ground, they seemed to realize something! Voldemort was dead!
Killed by Albert! The nightmare was finally over!
The rebels behind Albert erupted in a cacophony of cheers and shouts, rushing towards him. Several hundred people pushed forward, each wanting to touch the hero who had ended their nightmare.
But to their surprise, they found Albert enveloped in an invisible barrier, preventing them from getting close.
"You are too careless," Albert's voice rang in their ears. "This Wizarding War is far from over!"
"There are still many Death Eaters out there. If you don't take care of them now, do you plan to spend a lot of time on law enforcement later?"
Albert's deafening voice made everyone come to their senses. They looked up and saw the group of Death Eaters running for their lives towards the edge of the school grounds. Only a small number of people hurriedly gave chase, while the majority remained where they were.
For most people, Voldemort's death meant the end of the bloody Wizarding War.
Rather than taking the risk of chasing after the fleeing Death Eaters, most people preferred to savor the joy of this long-awaited victory.
However, their choice dimmed the brilliance of what should have been a resounding victory.
Yes, many wizards failed to realize what a golden opportunity they had missed.
I made some minor changes to this chapter.
There are only a few chapters left to wrap up the book. After that, I'll take a short break before writing the promised extra volume. As for how much I'll be able to write, we'll see.
