Chapter 1541: Extraordinary
Chapter 1541: Extraordinary
As Sirius had said, plans often fall short of expectations.
Upon suddenly receiving Sana's warning, they realized the dire situation Kingsley's group, who were holding off the enemy from the rear, was in.
Then, in less than ten seconds, they made the decision to send most of their group back to reinforce Kingsley.
At the very least, they needed to utilize their advantageous position and hold off the group of Death Eaters who had already gathered momentum at the staircase. Otherwise, if the enemy broke through their blockade, their fate of being caught between the front and back lines would be grim.
As for the original task of clearing the Death Eaters on the fifth floor, it could only be left to Albert to finish alone, and all they could do for now was to buy as much time for Albert as possible.
Nevertheless, Albert did not intend to give up on clearing out the Death Eaters on the fifth floor. He was well aware that without two or three layers of buffer zones, it would be difficult to hold off the Death Eaters' subsequent onslaught.
Due to Yaxley's presence, the group of Death Eaters who had rushed into the castle only to be met with a devastating blow recovered their wits much faster than they had anticipated.
Especially with their shock and rage combined, this group of Death Eaters banded together, taking advantage of their numerical superiority to relentlessly push forward, causing the first and second floors of the castle to quickly fall into their hands. Many of the squads suffered heavy casualties, particularly the Aurors who had not taken Felix Felicis, with nearly half of them perishing.
Fortunately, Albert was not entirely unprepared. With Sana and the house-elves' help, most of the squads completed their evacuation before being completely surrounded, and soon regrouped to form a new defensive line, occupying favorable terrain to intercept the Death Eaters. For a time, neither side could gain the upper hand, leading to a stalemate.
In fact, the Death Eaters weren't too keen on continuing the fight.
As they made their way through the castle, most of the bodies they encountered were those of their fellow Death Eaters, and they knew exactly what that meant.
There was a group of bastards hunting them down.
As absurd as it sounded, if they hadn't subconsciously stuck together, they might have ended up as one of those corpses.
Of course, neither side was aware that the other was being cautious of them, which led to even more ruthless attacks as they sought to protect themselves.
Facing the current situation, Albert remained calm. He had anticipated this outcome long ago, but he hadn't expected it to happen so soon.
Fortunately, the situation wasn't as dire as he had imagined. After all, Albert had spent a long time preparing, and the number of slain Death Eaters was a testament to that.
However, the situation eventually progressed towards a stalemate, which was an inevitable outcome and precisely what Albert wanted.
For Albert, wiping out this group of Death Eaters was a piece of cake.
In fact, that was precisely what he did.
To the astonishment of his companions, Albert directly pulled out a pair of earmuffs from his Camouflage Lizard Leather Bag and put them on. He then took out a metal rod and, using the Disillusionment Charm to conceal himself, he waited for the group of over thirty Death Eaters to approach.
Then, amidst a bizarre wailing sound, that group of Death Eaters was taken out by Albert's Petrificus Totalus.
After putting away the metal rod and making that damn wailing sound disappear, Albert removed his earmuffs and signaled for the stunned group to clean up the battlefield.
"Dealing with a group of witches and wizards who haven't entered the Extraordinary realm is never a difficult task. After all, they're just a bunch of ordinary people."
"Are they dead?" Lupin asked, swallowing his saliva.
"No, they're just temporarily unconscious. Hurry up and tie them up," Albert replied.
As he spoke, Albert had already taken out the Marauder's Map to locate another group of Death Eaters blocking their prey.
That, too, was a battle without any suspense, the only problem being that even their own allies were knocked out.
"So... it ends like this?" Sirius was a little skeptical.
"Or do you want to engage in a thrilling and blood-boiling battle with them?" Albert threw the antidote to Lupin, instructing him to wake up their allies who had been knocked out by the wailing sound.
"Why didn't you do that from the start?"
In fact, not only Sirius but also Lupin was having doubts. If Albert could deal with the enemies so easily, what was the point of their sacrifices?
"Why do you think that would have guaranteed success?" Albert tapped his head lightly and shook his head helplessly as he waved the Petrificus Totalus spell, "I was able to take them down mostly because of this, not that thing. It's more of a last resort."
"If you used this against the Dark Lord..." Sirius' words trailed off as Albert interrupted him.
"It's useless. Extraordinary witches and wizards are far more powerful than you imagine," Albert said, shaking his head in dismay as he watched Sirius finish off the Death Eaters, "Can't you come up with a faster way?"
Sirius and Lupin exchanged glances, clearly unsure what a faster method entailed. While they had killed quite a few Death Eaters, they weren't cold-blooded killers.
"We're on the fifth floor. Just throw them out the window to their deaths," Albert suggested, looking at the battered group of Death Eaters, "Don't say I didn't leave you a chance for revenge."
"Thanks."
The remaining two Death Eaters looked at each other and, in unison, waved their wands, sending the unconscious Death Eaters flying out the broken window. Falling from a height of five stories while unconscious, they were unlikely to survive.
"What's so extraordinary about these witches and wizards?"
As they made their way to the sixth floor to lend a hand, Sirius suddenly asked.
"It means what it says—witches and wizards as formidable as Dumbledore," Albert explained briefly, "Extraordinary in every aspect, be it knowledge, experience, power, or anything else."
"To give you a simple example, witches and wizards like us can easily detect traces of magic and see through Disillusionment Charms." Albert thought for a moment and provided another example, "Even if they were thrown into Azkaban prison, they could easily break out even without their wands."
Well, that gave them a rough idea of the level of prowess he was talking about. While Sirius had also escaped from Azkaban, the way Albert described it made it sound like a walk in the park.
"That kind of all-around power makes it difficult for them to be killed directly, even if the enemy is an equally powerful Extraordinary wizard. This is the main reason why Voldemort never dared to confront Dumbledore head-on. He, too, was well aware that he couldn't kill Dumbledore in a direct confrontation. This is also why I never attempted to kill Voldemort. As long as he wants to, he can slip away from under my nose at any time."
"So Voldemort resorts to despicable means, sending Snape and Malfoy to assassinate Dumbledore."
"Therefore, if we want to kill the Extraordinary Voldemort, we also need to use some unconventional methods, right?" Sirius' mind was quick to catch on.
"Yes, Dumbledore had already found the solution a long time ago. Everything we're doing now is to prepare for that final moment." Albert spoke as if to both them and himself, "And that moment is fast approaching. We must be patient because it may be our only chance to kill Voldemort."
