Chapter 154: Lanchi's At It Again
Chapter 154: Lanchi's At It Again
At the heart of the cathedral, Count Palocas' figure twisted and contorted as the sun's rays refracted through the stained glass, intensifying with each passing moment. The light drained his strength like sand slipping through an hourglass.
"Ahhhhh!!! I'll kill you all!!!"
His lungs felt as if they were being torn apart, his soul scorched by the sun's fiery embrace. Each breath seared his lungs like molten flame.
Under the relentless torture of the three delinquents, every nerve in his body, not just his eyes, was subjected to agonizing pain as if pricked by a thousand needles.
Disoriented and disheveled, he became their plaything as the executioner, the paladin, and the male guardian toyed with him mercilessly.
But Count Palocas refused to yield. With the fury of a cornered beast, he lashed out with all his might.
For he was immortal! This temporary pain meant nothing and would only fuel the flames of his vengeance, driving him to even greater madness! Despite his muddled thoughts, one thing remained clear.
That black-haired, green-eyed man could not possibly sustain the sun's radiance forever!
There were still five or six hours until dawn.
Once the cursed light of the cathedral faded, it would be time for these mortals to face his endless wrath and torment!
Count Palocas trembled with rage under the piercing sunlight, his fury spiraling out of control. Like a wild beast hounded to its last breath, his bloodstains were seared deep into the silver tiles.
Each time he lashed out with his claw-like hands, he unleashed a violent burst of destructive wind pressure.
Yet, working together in perfect harmony, the paladin, the executioner, and the male guardian countered his every move. Their tactics knew no bounds, subjecting him to a relentless storm of attacks from which he could find no refuge. With each exchange, Count Palocas' perception of humanity was utterly shattered.
In the distance, Frederick sat at the banquet table, casually snacking on his late-night supper while taking aim with a heavy crossbow and loosing an arrow at Count Palocas.
Though he was often assumed to be a front-liner, Frederick considered himself a long-range archer, better suited to the backlines.
Hyberrian shook his head in amusement.
Their team had a unique dynamic—a tank dealing damage from the back, a mage in the mid-lines supporting the healer, and the healer herself drawing aggro at the front lines.
"Once Professor Polaoke perfects the magic-powered sniper rifle, I'm sure your skills as a sniper will reach even greater heights, Frederick." Lanchi said with a smile.
Ever since he had befriended Professor Polaoke, the head of the Magic Engineering Institute, he had discovered that the professor could invent all sorts of wondrous contraptions.
With Lanchi's design ideas and promised funding, Professor Polaoke had eagerly embarked on crafting the practical items that Lanchi had described.
"I look forward to it," Frederick replied with a grin. "A weapon that allows me to strike from beyond the enemy's sight is indeed well-suited to my style."
As they chatted casually, the cleric nearby continued to "treat" Count Palocas with a series of erroneous healing spells.
Since the three front-line combatants had sustained minimal damage from the weakened vampire count, the cleric opted not to exert himself as he had against the Destroying Saintess. Instead, he borrowed Lanchi's "Misguided Healing" series of cards, altering the structure of his magic cards and gaining insight into the true nature of healing.
With each radiant beam of healing light that fell upon Count Palocas, his mind grew cloudier, his body trembling in agony as if the very world were spinning out of control.
"Mr. Lanchi, please focus on maintaining the sun with your magic. Leave the task of converting the vampire count to me." The cleric addressed Lanchi with confidence.
For clerics of the Fate Goddess Church who possessed high spirit but low magic, Lanchi's strategy proved equally effective.
The cleric was certain that upon his return to the mortal realm, he would acquire a set of Misguided Healing magic cards for himself and eagerly share this newfound knowledge with his colleagues.
"Very well, I appreciate your assistance," Lanchi nodded.
While his abundant magical reserves were his greatest strength, even with the boost from 'Radiant Virtue', his magic was being depleted at an alarming rate.
This was also due to his relatively low rank of Tier 3.
Before Lanchi's magic was completely exhausted, they needed to finish off this immortal vampire count once and for all.
Otherwise, should the count regain his full strength as a Tier 7 being, their deaths would be certain.
In the heart of the cathedral, a fierce battle raged.
Count Palocas clenched his eyes shut, his breath coming in ragged gasps as his heart pounded furiously in his chest like a frightened deer.
Finally, the effects of his 'Blood Frenzy' came to an end.
As the sun's rays continued to intensify, his combat prowess plummeted, falling even below half of what it had been initially.
The truly horrific ordeal was about to begin.
Count Palocas' dwindling sanity told him that if he could just hold on a little longer, everything would soon be over. He would use his immortality to teach these foolish humans the vast chasm that separated mere insects from superior beings! Despite his extensive injuries, all he needed was a moment to catch his breath, and he would quickly recover.
Up until now, all their attacks had been utterly meaningless!
The executioner and the paladin, two humans he had once deemed insignificant, now posed the greatest threat.
Their blades whirled like spinning tops, slicing through his flesh and leaving deep wounds. They even took delight in taunting him with ear-piercing laughter.
The cleric, from a distance, chanted spells that inflicted unbearable agony, and every now and then, an icy arrow would pierce his body.
But the most detestable of all were the silver-haired succubus, who mocked him with her maddening whispers, and the being who controlled the sun, hovering above like a pair of conspiring angels and demons.
With each passing moment, Count Palocas' body and mind were subjected to excruciating torment, and yet his rage continued to climb, threatening to consume him entirely.
"Hahaha! You're even weaker than your underlings!"
After the previous period of enhanced strength granted by 'Blood Frenzy', Count Palocas couldn't even withstand the executioner's fists. He was grabbed by the neck and hurled to the ground with such force that he lay there, dazed and unable to get up. The executioner then pinned him down and mercilessly rained blows upon him.
"※※ Little Bo!"
The Paladin, finding the use of his sword cumbersome, instead opted for a more direct approach, delivering fierce kicks with his iron-clad feet to the count's lower body. From time to time, he would lean down and mock Count Palocas with a few choice words.
Even the cleric, witnessing the scene, abandoned his healing efforts and rushed over with his mace in hand. He began to wildly smash it against the count's head as if it were a baseball bat, a sinister smile stretching across his face as he seemed to enjoy the beating he was delivering.
Farther away, by the banquet table...
Only Lanchi and Da'aishiren, the backline members, had yet to join the fight.
"......Um, why are they fighting like this?"
Hyberrian asked, perplexed by the scene unfolding before her.
She recalled that the trio had fought the Destroying Saintess in the afternoon, and they certainly hadn't been this aggressive or unruly!
At this moment, they resembled something else entirely, and she struggled to put a name to their current professions.
No, that wasn't right.
If time could be turned back by eighteen hours, these three individuals would be completely unrecognizable!
"I had Teacher Fred do a quick review with them of their battle against the Destroying Saintess this afternoon. I suspect they've learned quite a few practical, real-world combat techniques from Fred's flawless solo performance against the saintess."
Lanchi explained with a smile, appearing to be a noble figure concerned with the state of the world, always thinking about how to make the righteous clergy stronger.
"......"
Hyberrian covered her face with her hands.
It was already past midnight.
If the teachers at the Sage Institute were still working overtime, discussing their situation in the Shadow World...
She dared not imagine Headmaster Loren's mental state.
"Alright, my magic power is running low too. It's time to move on to the next phase of treatment."
Lanchi finally stood up and walked towards the thoroughly subdued Count Palocas.
The badly injured count lay on the bright floor of the cathedral, looking disheveled and dejected.
However, he had not completely lost consciousness. His twitching temples were a testament to his extreme anger and his determination to bide his time for revenge.
The night was still long.
As soon as the sun disappeared... it would be his turn.
Count Palocas endured the relentless beating from the executioner, the paladin, and the cleric, each blow and humiliation leaving a deep impression on his mind.
Gradually, a sinister smile curved the corners of the count's mouth. His laughter, indicative of someone who had completely lost their sanity, echoed eerily in the quiet cathedral.
He eagerly awaited the moment when he would regain his strength and take them all captive, subjecting them to the most cruel torments day and night!
In the face of his immortality, these mere fourth and fifth-tier humans were as good as dead! If they wanted to seal him, a seventh-tier vampire count, they would need an eighth-tier grand demon proficient in sealing arts to have any chance of success.
Among this group of weaklings, there was no grand wizard who could pose a threat to him!
"Alright, that's enough," Lanchi's gentle voice rang out behind the executioner.
Immediately, the clergy members ceased their attacks, merely holding down Count Palocas tightly as they awaited Lanchi's next move.
Although they had no idea what Lanchi planned to do next to subdue the vampire count, given that he was only third-tier, even if he specialized in sealing arts, it seemed impossible to seal a seventh-tier being who was four tiers above him.
However, following Lanchi's instructions, they only needed to incapacitate the count, and that was enough.
He had his own methods to calm the vampire.
And so, as everyone watched, including Count Palocas, whose laughter had taken on a manic edge.
Lanchi produced a magic card.
[Blood Pressure Stabilizer]
[Category: Equipment Card]
[Grade: Blue Rare]
[Attribute: Mechanical]
[Rank: 1]
[Effect: Inflicts minor life-draining effects, causing continuous bleeding when attacking immobilized enemies.]
[Note: Protects your cardiovascular health.]
In Lanchi's hand appeared a giant medical syringe, startling everyone in the cathedral.
It seemed that with great force, each plunge of the syringe could draw out two liters of blood from the patient.
Count Palocas continued to laugh, his blindness preventing him from seeing what Lanchi held in his hand or knowing what was about to happen to him.
Even Hyberrian, who had been standing by Lanchi's side, was taken aback by the equipment, her skin crawling with goosebumps.
The giant intravenous injector was not only terrifying to vampires but equally so as a deterrent to humans! While this piece of equipment was quite ordinary as a magic card, it was much larger than a typical medical syringe and exceptionally sturdy.
However, it was not merely equipment; it was a torture device!
Lanchi approached Count Palocas, reassured by the count's laughter.
As long as the count remained in high spirits, he would likely be in a good mental state when it was time for the injection.
To prevent Count Palocas from becoming overly agitated once the sun was retracted, Lanchi decided to lower his blood pressure first.
Ever since he had accidentally caused Mr. Ferret, the admissions examiner, to have a stroke, Lanchi had been contemplating emergency medical tools that could be used for rescue purposes.
Before learning about the challenge of the vampire shadow world, he had just happened to create a simple magic card that could be useful against vampires.
A large part of the vampires' power came from the blood in their bodies.
Even if their blood was completely drained, they wouldn't die, but they would be unable to move and would need a long time to recover.
"I apologize, but I'm not very skilled in sealing arts yet, so this will have to do," Lanchi said apologetically to the laughing Count Palocas.
Since he couldn't seal him with magic, he would have to resort to physical means of drying him out.
