Chapter 1535: Treasures in the Trash Heap
Chapter 1535: Treasures in the Trash Heap
In the Headmaster's office, Harry stood by the window, gazing at the relentless explosions lighting up the night sky. Turning his head, he asked, "It looks like the battle has begun. Are you sure it's safe for me to stay here?"
"Don't worry," Albert replied casually, taking a sip from his cup of tea as if the events unfolding in the castle didn't concern him at all. "The protagonist usually doesn't show up until the crucial moment."
"I'm not the protagonist!" Harry fixed Albert with a stare, wanting to make sure his nonchalance wasn't an act, before continuing, "If you don't go help, what about Voldemort?"
"Someone will keep him occupied," Albert said. "In fact, you don't need to worry about Voldemort at all right now. He's probably on his way to Borgin and Burkes to retrieve his precious Horcruxes. Of course, he won't find them there."
Albert put down his cup and picked up his wand, which was lying next to it. With a casual flick, a Ravenclaw-style diadem materialized on the table out of thin air.
"Do you think he'll suspect someone took his Horcruxes beforehand, or... did you mess up the hiding place?" Harry asked, his eyes darting between Albert and Dumbledore's portrait. Suddenly, he sighed, "If Voldemort finds out he's been played like a monkey, he'll go insane!"
"No, he won't," Albert said, as if reading Harry's thoughts. "Dumbledore is dead, so Voldemort has already had his revenge. As for me, this isn't the first time he's wanted me dead. Unfortunately for him, he won't get the chance. Once he turns back into a regular wizard, he won't stand a chance against me."
"You're pretty confident," Harry said, eyeing the wand on the table, suspecting it was the legendary Elder Wand. "With the Elder Wand and the Felix Felicis, Voldemort doesn't stand a chance against you."
It did feel a bit unsportsmanlike, but against an opponent like Voldemort, any means to ensure his permanent defeat was fair game.
"Once Voldemort gives up on finding his Horcrux in the trash heap," Albert said with a smile, "you can make your appearance. You might even want to push him closer to the edge of madness and see if he'll kindly offer you an Avada Kedavra."
"You're one twisted guy," Phineas muttered, listening in on their conversation.
Just then, the castle beneath their feet began to shake violently.
"Voldemort is about to launch a full-scale attack on the castle," Albert said solemnly. "The Wizarding War has officially begun."
As a barrage of spells hit the castle, causing a series of explosions, the Death Eaters and Dark Wizards they led surged forward like a tide of shadows, pouring through the breaches in the walls and windows.
They were following Yaxley's orders to wipe out any remaining resistance in the castle and crush their enemies' feeble attempts at a stand.
However, what they didn't realize was that they were walking into a trap.
On the other side of the windows lay a group of despicable cowards waiting for their arrival.
The unfortunate souls who tried to break through the windows were met with a fierce counterattack and sent flying back out, their screams echoing as they fell from the tall castle, unlikely to survive the fall.
The rest of the Dark Wizards who managed to breach the castle didn't fare much better, as they were soon ambushed as well, left confused and unable to make sense of what was happening.
"What a bunch of amateurs," Fred commented, hidden under the Disillusionment Charm as he waved his wand, skillfully using the Accio spell to strip the intruders of anything valuable.
"Just a bit too many of them," George added, pulling out the Marauder's Map to check their numbers as he heard footsteps approaching. They prepared to spring another ambush.
There was no need to confirm if they were enemies—there was no one else in the vicinity but their small group.
They repeated their tactics, ambushing another group of three, dispatching them with minimal effort. A direct confrontation would likely still result in victory, but it would take more time and might attract other Dark Wizards.
Indeed, the fourth group of Dark Wizards had been drawn by the sounds of battle.
But they soon met the same fate, falling victim to the despicable tactics of the Phoenix Society, who had used their own kind as bait and cannon fodder.
It was truly shameless, but there was no denying it was an effective strategy. Fred and George's team of five had taken out twenty-one Dark Wizards in a short span of time.
The only problem was that as time passed, the Dark Wizards began to realize something was amiss in the castle, and they started sticking together, making ambushes increasingly difficult.
To make matters worse, enemy reinforcements arrived even before the battle had concluded. Fortunately, with the help of the Disillusionment Charm and Felix Felicis, they managed to retreat safely.
"Damn it, someone was hiding under an Invisibility Cloak and attacking us just now, weren't they?" one of the unfortunate Dark Wizards who had just been ambushed complained to his companions.
Similar scenarios were playing out throughout the castle. While the Dark Wizards had the advantage in numbers, once they stepped into the ambush, they were met with fierce resistance.
This led many of them to suspect that they had been lied to by Yaxley, who had confidently claimed that most of the resistance would be held up outside the castle, and that there wouldn't be many enemies within.
As a result, many of the Dark Wizards who had just entered the castle were met with fierce counterattacks.
However, even if they wanted to take their anger out on Yaxley, they would have to win the war first. And Yaxley would never admit that his plan had flaws; he would simply blame their misfortune.
Voldemort would undoubtedly side with Yaxley, as he had encountered no obstacles when invading the eighth floor of the castle and easily made his way to Borgin and Burkes to search for what he had hidden there before.
But...
Voldemort was in a foul mood because the trash heap where he had hidden the diadem had collapsed under its own weight, burying many of his hidden items, including the diadem, under the pile of garbage.
He had no choice but to search for the diadem in the trash heap, as he couldn't risk Harry Potter showing up and burning the place down, destroying his last Horcrux.
Voldemort dared not take that chance. That guy was more than capable of such an act, as he had already set fire to the Lestranges' vault in Gringotts, destroying not only the Hufflepuff Cup hidden there but also centuries of the Lestranges' accumulated wealth. And this was just a pile of trash.
