Chapter 153: The Story of the Tinderbox
Chapter 153: The Story of the Tinderbox
---
【Blue Checkered Apron】
【Rank: Advanced】
【Attributes】
【Place any creature of rank 5 or lower on the blue checkered apron, and it will be immobilized.】
Qin Muye looked at the blue checkered apron and said, "The characters in this fairy tale world are really wealthy. They just casually give away advanced treasures."
At this moment, he had already descended and was currently in a large corridor underground, brightly lit.
He did not immediately look for the three dogs or the tinderbox but instead examined the lights.
"What are these made of? I won't even mention the lighting effect, but why can they last so long?" Qin Muye's pupils turned into crimson crystals as he continuously observed the entire underground corridor.
However, he found nothing, as if everything was supposed to be this way.
"Alright, let's not delve too much into the fairy tale."
Qin Muye walked through the corridor, which was not long, with only three doors. There was nothing else, as if it were built specifically for these three rooms.
Currently, it seemed to be a treasury, but he didn't know whose unlucky treasury it was.
The defensive strength was actually quite good. Qin Muye couldn't defeat the three dogs at the moment.
First, he was not a soldier and did not have that protagonist aura. If he really tried to barge in, the most likely outcome would be getting bitten by the dogs, not being able to stare down the dogs and immobilize them with the blue checkered apron like a soldier would.
Qin Muye was well aware of this. Without the protagonist aura, he shouldn't try to act like one, or he would really die.
After a thorough observation, Qin Muye finally pushed open the first door and saw a large dog with eyes as big as teacups looking at him warily.
The dog then got up, baring its teeth, as if it would attack Qin Muye if he dared to enter.
Qin Muye immediately understood the situation with the dog.
"This dog doesn't seem like a normal dog? It looks more like it has special bloodlines."
"Tsk, an interesting world."
If it weren't special, what would it eat or drink in this place? Ordinary dogs would have starved to death long ago.
Qin Muye didn't care about the large dog's warning. He felt that these coins were not as simple as they seemed.
Once inside, the large dog indeed attacked immediately, pouncing at him.
"Pretty fast? It looks like it's teleporting through space." Qin Muye's expression turned serious. He noticed that the dog was on a treasure chest one moment and right next to him the next, its mouth wide open, ready to bite.
A magic shield appeared around Qin Muye, blocking the dog's attack. The dog's teeth began to be covered in a layer of crimson crystals where they touched the shield.
Before the dog could make its next move, its entire body was encased in the crimson crystals.
"You, stay as a statue for a while, so you don't disturb me."
Qin Muye was determined to get the tinderbox. It could summon three bodyguards, and while their strength might be insufficient, it didn't matter. He felt that these three dogs had special bloodlines and wanted to study them.
He opened the treasure chest, and as the old woman had said, it was filled with copper coins.
However, when Qin Muye picked up one of the copper coins, he realized it was not as simple as it seemed.
The copper coin was imprinted with a skull and a scythe.
"Death God?"
But the moment he picked it up, the pattern on the coin quickly disappeared, turning it into an ordinary copper coin.
The other copper coins in the chest also changed before his eyes.
"This is too bad. I was hoping to add a hammer and see if the Death God could withstand it," Qin Muye said with some regret.
If the Death God couldn't handle it, the Underworld would collapse. If the Death God could handle it, what did it have to do with Qin Muye?
Although the patterns had changed, Qin Muye knew that such bizarre objects should not be used lightly. If he triggered a curse, he would have to get his goblins to avenge him, and the entire fairy tale world would be in chaos.
He left the coins there and turned to leave. As he passed the large dog, he tapped it, and the crimson crystals covering the dog shattered instantly, leaving the dog somewhat confused.
But seeing that Qin Muye had left the room and not taken any of the copper coins, the dog returned to its post to continue guarding.
In the second room, the second dog had eyes as big as cartwheels.
This comparison clearly shows just how large the dog's size is. The first dog had eyes as big as teacups, so naturally, this one, being much larger, is understandable. But cartwheels? That’s a bit much. Was the soldier even a normal person? His physique was almost as big as a house.
Then, Qin Muye remembered something: the third room’s dog had eyes as big as a round tower. Even the next-door giant would struggle to withstand a bite from this thing.
'Fairy tales indeed don’t follow logic.'
Qin Muye looked at the fierce and large dog. This thing couldn’t be handled just by the backlash of a magic shield; it would require magic to immobilize it.
'And this blue checkered apron, the dog’s paws are too big to fit, and yet the old witch asked me to place the dog on it. Isn’t that just making things difficult for me?'
Seeing the dog’s size, his eyes twitched. It was insulting his intelligence. Was the soldier a giant or a titan?
The first dog he thought had special bloodlines, but now he realized it wasn’t just about bloodlines; this thing might not even be a normal dog.
If he hadn’t truly seen it, Qin Muye wouldn’t have understood just how impactful this was.
He slowly walked in, and the large dog pounced again, turning into a massive crimson crystal statue.
Opening the treasure chest, he found silver coins with the Death God’s pattern.
"Tsk, as expected."
Watching the Death God’s pattern fade from the coin, Qin Muye became even more certain that these coins were not simple.
After looking around, the second room was the same as the first, with only a treasure chest and a dog, no tinderbox in sight.
He guessed the tinderbox was likely in the last room.
"Who exactly is that soldier?" Qin Muye’s mind grew increasingly heavy.
Leaving the second room, Qin Muye didn’t immediately head to the third. He was pondering something: was he really interrupting someone else’s fate?
If it were an ordinary world, taking the opportunity would be fine, but this was a fairy tale, where everything has a predetermined destiny.
For instance, in the story of the tinderbox, he remembered that the princess was locked in a copper palace because of a prophecy that she would marry a common soldier.
That was the issue.
The soldier wasn’t a good person. From breaking his promise to the witch, to his excessive spending and making the dogs steal money, even the crucial part of dating the princess felt forced, more like kidnapping, and in the end, he had the dogs kill the king and queen to ascend to the throne.
Yet, despite all this, he still reached the pinnacle of life.
If it weren’t for Qin Muye’s abilities, he would have already been devoured by the dogs.
This gave Qin Muye a strong sense of predestination. He could take it, but the aftermath would be troublesome.
Who knew if the soldier wasn’t the child of some god? With the Death God already involved, other gods could be as well.
Otherwise, the soldier wouldn’t have such extraordinary abilities.
"A simple fable, under illogical circumstances, has caused so many ripples."
Qin Muye felt helpless. He guessed he wasn’t the first to be tricked by the old witch. As for the previous ones? They were likely already in the dogs’ bellies.
"The soldier isn’t a good person, and neither is the witch. Tsk, I just want to be a good person." Qin Muye pushed open the door to the third room with a sigh.
A massive, ferocious dog stared at him with eyes larger than his own, so large that the entire door couldn’t contain them.
"Have you eaten? If not, take a punch."
Qin Muye looked at the dog’s eyes, but as for the rest of it? He couldn’t see it. The dog’s size was just too enormous.
So all he could see was the dog’s eye.
"..."
"So... how did the soldier manage to place this thing on the blue checkered apron? More importantly, can this thing really immobilize this dog?"
Qin Muye thought the second dog was already ridiculous, but this third dog... it was beyond ridiculous. This thing was a massive weapon of destruction.
Using such a weapon just to guard a chest of gold? Was the person’s brain kicked by a donkey? Even using it for transportation would be more profitable than this chest of gold.
Yet, it was used as a guard, which was simply absurd.
