Chapter 153: Arrival at Sunagakure 【67】
Chapter 153: Arrival at Sunagakure 【67】
The Land of Wind.
A Temporary Camp.
This was a small temporary encampment, housing over two hundred people. Its purpose was to carry out raids along the Fire Country's border and gather intelligence on Konoha.
Ever since Konoha's Silver Flash went missing and the Golden Flash rose to power, shocking the ninja world, the major ninja villages had eased up on their offensive against Konoha, hardly daring to launch large-scale wars anymore.
After all, the leaders of the ninja villages were well aware that a shinobi like Namikaze Minato would unleash tremendous combat power on a large-scale battlefield.
Smaller-scale battles, however, could at least keep their opponents busy.
Inside one of the tents.
Yuki Kansaburo, an elite Jonin of Sunagakure and the leader of this encampment, was currently troubled.
A squad of twenty ninjas he had dispatched to Fire Country for reconnaissance had lost contact a month ago, and there had been no news of them since. They were presumed to have encountered Konoha ninjas and been defeated.
Then,
half a month ago, another squad of ten ninjas he had sent to occupy Loulan and transform it into a forward camp also went missing.
This left him confused and suspicious that Konoha might have occupied Loulan. After much hesitation, he finally sent a squad of scout ninjas to investigate the situation there.
"Why aren't they back yet...?"
Kansaburo irritably slammed his hand on the table.
The scout ninja squad he had dispatched was tasked only with reconnaissance, not combat. They were supposed to investigate the situation in Loulan and gather information about the previous squad, then return immediately. Judging by the time, they should have been back by now.
"Damn it!"
After slamming the table, Kansaburo couldn't help but curse again.
This curse wasn't directed at the scout squad but at Konoha. Originally, the Third Kazekage had been their Sunagakure's strongest, and under his leadership, they had nothing to fear from any other village.
But the Third Kazekage had mysteriously disappeared, suspected to have been taken down by Konoha. And then their war against Konoha had failed due to the rise of a monstrous ninja, the Silver Flash, from Konoha.
Finally.
The Silver Flash had disappeared, presumed dead, and they thought they had found an opportunity to strike Konoha again. But then, the long-shadowed Namikaze Minato, whose brilliance had always been overshadowed by the Silver Flash, unleashed devastating lethality in the subsequent wars, striking fear into their hearts.
These two wars had dealt Sunagakure heavy losses.
Moreover, the rise of the Golden Flash was also a cause for concern.
This was because the Golden Flash hadn't suddenly burst onto the scene; he had consistently achieved extremely remarkable records. It was just that his achievements had always been overshadowed by the Silver Flash's earth-shattering feats.
If the Silver Flash and the Golden Flash joined forces, which village in the ninja world could withstand their might?!
Fortunately.
The Silver Flash was dead.
Otherwise, as a ninja of Sunagakure, Kansaburo would have found it hard to sleep peacefully, constantly worrying about assassins infiltrating their camp and taking his life.
Just as Kansaburo was cursing under his breath, a figure rushed into the tent.
As if he had been running the entire way without stopping, the ninja stumbled as he rushed in and nearly fell to the ground, breathing heavily as he spoke:
"Kansaburo-sama... urgent... emergency..."
Recognizing the ninja who had fallen to the ground as one of the scout squad members he had sent to Loulan, Kansaburo frowned.
Judging by the situation, it didn't seem like good news.
He glared at the scout ninja, his voice filled with displeasure. "What terrible news has you in such a panic? Could it be that the Silver Flash has come back from the dead?"
"I... we encountered the Silver Flash in Loulan... I'm the only survivor... the previous squad is likely... gone," the ninja stammered.
Kansaburo let go, and the ninja fell to the ground with a thud. He stood there, his hands still outstretched, his mind reeling. An image flashed through his mind—a memory of the battlefield where Fengye had slain Chiyo.
Fear crept into his heart like a dark shadow, consuming him and causing his body to tremble. His eyes reflected his terror.
The Silver Flash!
That ninja was still alive!!
"Quick... report this to the Kazekage... hurry!"
News of the Silver Flash's reappearance spread like wildfire throughout the entire camp, striking fear into the hearts of countless Sand Ninjas.
Although he had been absent for two years, the terrifying deeds he had done two years ago were not easily forgotten.
On that fateful day, the Sand Ninjas recalled the terror of being dominated by the Silver Flash!
...
Within the Land of Wind, Fengye lacked a map of the country, but that didn't hinder his search for Sunagakure, the prominent ninja village of the Land of Wind, known even to ordinary folk.
After venturing deeper into the country, he stopped by a small town and inquired about the exact location of Sunagakure. With that knowledge, he set off once more toward the village.
Several days later, he arrived at his destination.
Given the desert environment of the Land of Wind, starkly different from the rainy climate of the Land of Rain, the architecture here was designed primarily to withstand sand and wind.
And as for Sunagakure, the entire village was nestled within a colossal, encircling ring of mountainous rock walls, effectively shielding it from the elements.
Viewed from above, it resembled a massive mountain that had been cleaved in two, its insides hollowed out, leaving only the outer rim, within which a town had been built.
"So this is Sunagakure... quite a spectacle, much more impressive than Konoha. I wonder about the other villages; it'd be nice to visit them one by one, though I doubt the Kage would welcome me with open arms. Heh."
Fengye stood at a distance, gazing at the village hidden behind the rock walls and chuckling softly.
While he had memories of Sunagakure, seeing it in person was far more impressive. He recalled how the village had been almost entirely enveloped, with only a narrow passage, 'Thread Sky,' serving as the entrance, guarded by rotating patrols of Sunagakure's ANBU.
"Now, how should I make my entrance?" Fengye murmured to himself as he eyed the village.
After a moment's thought, he drew out Kusanagi, and his chakra began to stir. The third, fourth, and fifth gates of the Eight Inner Gates ruptured in response.
Fengye raised the sword, and under his control, a massive amount of chakra surged and flowed into the blade, causing it to glow brilliantly.
"Then..."
"...let's start with a greeting."
