Chapter 152: Taking Advantage of Opportunities (Five More Chapters)
Mo Shan's expression turned solemn as he brought Mo Hua to find Elder Yu.
Mo Hua pointed to a spot on the map and said, "There was a fight here."
It was unlikely to be the demon hunters since they had agreed to set off fireworks to alert each other if any conflict arose.
Aside from that, there was a small possibility that the disturbance was caused by a struggle between demon beasts.
The more probable explanation was that the Qian Family cultivators had encountered a demon beast and engaged in combat.
Regardless, they had to go and investigate.
Elder Yu gave a direct order: "Gather everyone, and let's go there."
Although the demon hunters were spread out, they maintained a reasonable proximity to each other, facilitating quick communication. Soon enough, several hundred late Qi Refining demon hunters assembled together.
Elder Yu briefly explained the situation and then waved his hand, signaling their departure with a commanding tone: "Let's go!"
The demon hunters lowered their bodies, concealing their auras and refraining from any unnecessary conversation. With light steps, they stealthily approached the mountain peak marked by Mo Hua.
Half an hour later, they arrived at their destination.
This place was an isolated and desolate small hill rarely visited by humans. Due to its remoteness and the lack of visitors, the demon hunters hadn't bothered to name it, simply referring to it as "Nameless Peak."
In a clearing among the trees, littered with broken stones, they discovered the remains and bloodstains of a demon beast.
Mo Shan examined the scene and wiped away some of the bloodstains with his hand, concluding: "A cultivator killed it, but their technique was crude, indicating they aren't one of our demon hunters."
Elder Yu's eyes narrowed as he released his spiritual sense.
Mo Hua faintly sensed a slight disturbance but couldn't discern anything further.
Those with powerful spiritual senses were adept at both probing and concealing their presence from similar inspections.
Mo Hua's heart trembled as he realized the profound difference in spiritual sense between a Foundation Establishment cultivator and himself.
Following Elder Yu's example, Mo Hua released his spiritual sense, searching for any clues that could be gleaned from the surroundings.
After a while, Elder Yu retracted his spiritual sense and fixed his gaze on Mo Hua, a hint of surprise flickering in his eyes.
A short time later, Mo Hua also retracted his spiritual sense.
"Have you noticed anything?" Elder Yu inquired.
Mo Hua nodded, "There's a cave in the mountain that has been concealed with wood and stone."
Elder Yu's eyes lit up, "Show me where it is on the map."
Mo Hua took out the map and drew several circles near the peak of Nameless Peak, indicating the locations of the cave entrances he had detected with his spiritual sense.
Elder Yu nodded in acknowledgment and then marked several additional spots on the map.
Mo Hua glanced at the map and immediately understood—these were the locations he had overlooked.
Some were too distant, beyond the reach of his spiritual sense, while others were hidden too deeply for his spiritual strength to penetrate. There were also instances where his lack of experience and negligence had caused him to miss certain signs.
In his heart, Mo Hua silently reflected on and summarized the intricacies of utilizing spiritual sense effectively.
Elder Yu's expression softened, and he patted Mo Hua's shoulder approvingly, "Well done."
Then, his demeanor turned stern, and with a piercing gaze, he issued his commands:
"All demon hunters, memorize these locations!"
"Divide into teams and enter through these cave entrances without alerting the enemy."
"If you encounter any Qian Family cultivators, disable them. If necessary, kill them. Leave the matters concerning the Court of Dao Governance to me."
The demon hunters acknowledged the orders, their eyes blazing with battle intent.
Like dark shadows, they leaped forward, closing in on the cave entrances that dotted the mountainside.
Mo Shan instructed Mo Hua, "Stay hidden and don't go inside. Even if you see any cultivators leaving, don't intervene. Just focus on protecting yourself!"
Mo Hua nodded in agreement and added, "Dad, please wear that vine armor."
The vine armor was inscribed with the top-grade Golden Armor Formation by Mo Hua himself.
Mo Shan's heart warmed, and he gently ruffled Mo Hua's hair before his figure flashed, and he too approached one of the cave entrances on the mountainside.
Mo Hua swept the surrounding area with his spiritual sense and found a safe and easily defensible large pit to hide in.
Then came a deafening boom.
Mo Hua sensed an even more oppressive spiritual power.
It seemed that Elder Yu and the Qian Family's Foundation Establishment cultivators had engaged in battle.
The intense fluctuations continued for a while, and soon, a figure bolted out from a cave in the mountainside.
This figure rushed out of the cave without a backward glance, streaking towards the foot of the mountain with an afterimage trailing behind.
Judging by their escape speed, they had to be a Foundation Establishment cultivator! Mo Hua breathed a sigh of relief.
With the Foundation Establishment cultivator fleeing, the remaining Qian Family cultivators would scatter like monkeys when a tree falls; their defeat was only a matter of time.
Indeed, not even a full hour later, cultivators from the Qian Family began emerging from the cave in a panic.
Most of them were bloody and battered, with some clutching their arms and others limping as they frantically fled downhill.
Mo Hua didn't want to act rashly. After all, he was alone, so it was better to be cautious.
He remained hidden in the pit, biding his time.
After a while, Mo Hua suddenly sensed approaching footsteps. He looked up and saw two fleeing Qian Family cultivators heading in his direction.
They seemed to have been through a tough battle, their appearances disheveled and their spiritual power fluctuating weakly, indicating they were at their last gasp.
Instead of sticking with the other Qian Family cultivators, these two had chosen to be alone, and instead of taking any of the numerous other paths, they hobbled right through the bushes in front of Mo Hua.
Mo Hua felt that it would be a disservice to them if he didn't take action.
One of the Qian Family cultivators was still cursing angrily:
"Those bastards, where did they get their information..."
"We need to report this to the family head and make them pay!"
"...Damn it all!"
He continued cursing as he fled.
But in the middle of his tirade, a fireball exploded right in his face.
Agonizing pain washed over him, the explosive fire-attributed spiritual power causing his head to spin and his ears to ring, and his face felt like it was on fire.
"What..."
Before he could react, another fireball hit him square in the face, and he collapsed.
"An ambush?!"
The other Qian Family cultivator paled in shock. Ignoring his companion, he turned to flee, but after only a few steps, a fireball struck him on the back of his head.
He fell face-first onto the ground, his face smashing into the rocks, and lost consciousness.
Mo Hua didn't rush out immediately.
Instead, he first used his spiritual sense to scan the two cultivators and found that their spiritual power was flowing irregularly.
This indicated that they had fainted and were no longer conscious, unable to control the flow of their spiritual power.
Still not fully reassured, Mo Hua sent another fireball at each of them. Seeing that they didn't react, he finally climbed out of the pit.
Now what?
Mo Hua thought for a moment, then proceeded to search their bodies and take their storage bags.
The Dao Governance Court prohibited looting.
Mo Hua had wanted to be a law-abiding cultivator, but with the Qian Family pushing them so far, he couldn't just do nothing and let them walk all over him.
"Cultivators really are helpless, aren't they..."
Mo Hua sighed, a hint of melancholy in his expression as he tucked the storage bags into his own robe.
He then ran back to his hiding spot and waited to see if any more cultivators from the Qian Family would give him a chance to act "helplessly."
Sure enough, not long after, more cultivators from the Qian Family stumbled into his trap.
If there were many, Mo Hua would let them go.
But if there were only a few, he would deal with them just as he had the previous two.
As dawn approached and the battle in the cave neared its end.
Mo Hua's pockets were already quite full...
