Chapter 152: Dumbledore's Unsolicited Visit
Chapter 152: Dumbledore's Unsolicited Visit
"Amazing!" Marcus exclaimed with genuine admiration.
Ivan, facing Marcus, the true inventor of the Wolfsbane Potion, was about to modestly respond when Douglas interrupted him.
"Genius is always beyond the reach of ordinary people."
Douglas sighed, drawing everyone's attention. He then patted Ivan on the shoulder and continued to boast.
"You might not know, but Hals could identify various herbs at the age of five and brew simple Potions on his own by six, of course, thanks to my years of diligent teaching.
To be honest, I'm not surprised at all that he managed to develop the Wolfsbane Potion at this age."
What? I could identify herbs at five and brew Potions at six?
Ivan stared at Douglas, bewildered. When did he become so impressive?
Who would believe that?
Ivan was inwardly complaining. Even if they wanted to boost his reputation by labeling him a genius, this was going too far.
But when he turned around, he noticed that Marcus and Stamp were looking at him with admiration, clearly buying into the act.
Just as Douglas was about to continue, he suddenly paused, his gaze shifting to the side, and his expression turned sour.
Ivan turned to see what had caught Douglas's attention and saw an old man with a white beard, wearing a dark green robe and a blue-purple Badge on his shoulder. He bore a slight resemblance to Douglas.
Before Ivan could ponder the relationship between Douglas and the old man, his composed expression also changed when he realized that the long-absent Headmaster Dumbledore was standing beside the old man, and they were walking over together.
"Albus, this is the young wizard you were telling me about, the genius?" The old wizard seemed particularly robust, his voice strong as he smiled at Dumbledore.
"I wouldn't have believed it if you hadn't assured me that a young wizard could come up with a solution for the Werewolf problem."
"Headmaster Bohan, I was just as surprised by his achievements, but upon reflection, Hals always seems to surprise me every time we meet!" Dumbledore said lightly, winking at Ivan.
"Now I'm looking forward to seeing what he will surprise me with next."
Who wants to meet you? Ivan thought, but he politely greeted them.
"Professor Dumbledore, Headmaster Bohan. I just happened to create the Wolfsbane Potion. I owe it all to Mr. Douglas's years of guidance. Without the research materials he compiled while studying werewolves, I wouldn't have been able to develop it."
Headmaster Bohan nodded noncommittally and then looked at Douglas, somewhat suspiciously.
"I didn't know you were researching the Werewolf problem in Knockturn Alley all these years, besides causing trouble. This is quite unexpected. It seems you occasionally do something productive."
"That's because you only believe in the fantasies in your head, which makes you so ignorant!" Douglas retorted angrily.
Headmaster Bohan, however, ignored Douglas and engaged Ivan in a cheerful conversation, particularly praising his decision to sell the Wolfsbane Potion at a reduced price.
The enthusiasm left Ivan somewhat at a loss. He even began to suspect whether this Headmaster Bohan might also be a Werewolf, otherwise why would he be so concerned about the Wolfsbane Potion?
It didn't take long for Ivan to realize he had overthought it.
From the conversation, Ivan quickly learned that St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries had treated dozens of patients over the years who had been scratched or bitten by Werewolves.
Most of them arrived at the hospital long after the optimal treatment time, and Bohan could only watch helplessly as they were transformed, unable to do anything.
This was undoubtedly a torment for the highly skilled Bohan.
The Wolfsbane Potion that Ivan had developed, although unable to cure Werewolves, could significantly reduce similar Werewolf rampages and allow many innocent Werewolf wizards to reintegrate into normal life.
"Albus, I believe that the contribution Hals has made to the Ministry of Magic is enough to earn him the Second-Class Order of Merlin. What do you think?" Headmaster Bohan said with a sigh.
"Hmm, I agree. I'll write a letter to initiate the nomination tomorrow", Dumbledore nodded, agreeing without hesitation.
Ivan was quite surprised. He hadn't expected that these two major figures in the wizarding World would be willing to nominate him for the Order of Merlin.
On the way here, he had learned from Douglas that to receive the Order of Merlin, one not only needed to have made sufficient contributions but also needed a nominator.
The best nominator would be another Order of Merlin recipient or someone with considerable influence in the wizarding World.
If there was no nominator, the Order of Merlin would automatically initiate a nomination, but the process would be much slower.
This was why Douglas had gathered these people and been tirelessly advocating for him, primarily to find a reliable nominator, with the patent registration being a secondary concern.
"Thank you, Professor Dumbledore, and of course, Headmaster Bohan!" Ivan said, somewhat gratefully.
He understood that his contributions were only enough for a Third-Class Order of Merlin, and to receive a Second-Class, he would need the influence of these two major figures.
Although Ivan wasn't particularly enthusiastic about the Order of Merlin, he wouldn't neglect to show gratitude to those who had helped him.
Just as Ivan was about to thank them again, he saw Dumbledore waving his hand and sighing, which was rare for him.
"No, I should be the one to thank you, Hals. Your Wolfsbane Potion can save one of my Werewolf friends. He has done a lot for me in the past, but in recent years, he has been impoverished and struggling due to his Werewolf wizard identity. I have been helpless to do anything about it, only able to watch."
Werewolf friend? Ivan's mind raced, and he understood that Dumbledore was referring to the Werewolf Lupin.
If he remembered correctly, this core member of the Order of the Phoenix should still be wandering due to his Werewolf identity.
Could it be that Dumbledore intends to bring him back to serve as the Defence Against the Dark Arts professor for the next school year?
Ivan was somewhat excited. After all, the next school year's Defence Against the Dark Arts professor, Lockhart, was a complete fraud, and attending his class was a torture.
But upon further thought, it seemed unlikely, as there were only about ten days left until the start of the school year, and the Defence Against the Dark Arts professor would have been decided by now.
