Chapter 151: There Are No Giants in Hogwarts
Chapter 151: There Are No Giants in Hogwarts
On Saturday, Kyle arrived at the Great Hall earlier than usual.
He had skipped the nightly wanderings the day before, choosing instead to go to bed right after dinner and sleeping until morning. As a result, he felt refreshed and energized.
Breakfast consisted of sausages, corn chowder, and a generous serving of roasted potatoes.
Kyle was halfway through his meal when the others joined him.
"Looks like you had a good rest last night," Cedric commented as he sat down across from Kyle. "No more strange dreams?"
Kyle smiled and replied, "No, I slept like a log until morning."
"That's good," Cedric said as he picked up a roasted potato and began peeling it. "By the way, I told Professor Trelawney about your situation yesterday. Do you want to know what she had to say?"
Without hesitation, Kyle shook his head. "Let's not bother with that. I've heard her prophecies never turn out well."
"Well...you're not wrong there," Cedric nodded in agreement.
According to Professor Trelawney's prediction, Kyle would have a series of seven consecutive dreams, leading to a mental breakdown that would land him in the school hospital. After his discharge, he would encounter a giant and be knocked back into the hospital again.
In short, it didn't sound very fortunate.
However, it seemed that Professor Trelawney had gotten it wrong from the very first prediction, and the rest seemed like nonsense.
How could there be giants in the castle? If there were giants in Hogwarts, he would eat every last one of these roasted potatoes in front of everyone.
Cedric rubbed his forehead in annoyance.
Just as others had said, Professor Trelawney was indeed a fraud. He regretted taking the Weasley twins' advice and choosing Divination over other subjects.
Why not Numerology? It was too late now, though. Even if he wanted to switch, he would have to wait until the next semester.
Cedric sighed.
Just then, Fred and George arrived, but they looked far from their usual energetic selves. They both seemed like they hadn't slept well.
While their nocturnal wanderings had led to sleep deprivation before, this time felt different.
Professor McGonagall had denied their request to switch subjects, only allowing them to add one more elective—Ancient Runes.
With three elective courses, their days were now fully packed.
The previous night, they had stayed up until the wee hours of the morning working on their Ancient Runes assignment.
"Merlin's beard! You two are doing your homework in advance?!" Cedric exclaimed, so surprised that he accidentally dropped the potato he had just peeled. It rolled under the table with a soft thud.
"Are you two imposters, or has someone been drinking Polyjuice Potion?" Kyle eyed them suspiciously. "What do you think of Percy, by the way?"
George frowned, a hint of annoyance in his voice. "Hey, we're the real deal."
"Yeah, and Percy is a goody-two-shoes who loves snitching," Fred added.
"Er...that's true," Cedric agreed.
Kyle's confusion grew. "Then why on earth are you doing your homework in advance?!"
"For our dream!" Fred exclaimed passionately. "You're right, Ancient Runes is incredibly useful for researching magical artifacts. We've already come up with two brilliant ideas during class. But it's challenging...those runes have so many variations, and different combinations convey different meanings. No wonder Percy spent an entire summer studying them."
Cedric nodded in understanding, as he, too, had chosen Ancient Runes as an elective. Fred and George were not joking around—the subject was notoriously difficult.
"Yes," Kyle confirmed. "I spoke to Harris about it a few days ago, and I'll be taking the final assessment next week."
"What about you two? Have you decided on a new captain and Seeker?" Kyle asked.
"The captain will be Oliver Wood, he's the best choice," Fred replied.
"But we still don't have a Seeker," George added.
Kyle noticed that Fred and George's expressions had turned even gloomier.
Finding an exceptional Seeker was proving to be just as challenging as mastering Ancient Runes.
While many students had signed up, not a single qualified candidate had emerged. Many couldn't even spot the Snitch under their noses.
With such players, Gryffindor would be vying for third place with Ravenclaw.
These days, Wood had been so worried that he was losing hair at a rapid rate for someone his age.
Fred and George, equally concerned, hastily finished their breakfast and dragged their weary bodies toward the Quidditch pitch.
They were scheduled to continue interviewing Seekers that day, hoping to find someone competent, even if they couldn't match Cedric's skills.
Professor McGonagall would also be present, as she was equally invested in this matter.
Following her suggestion, Lee Jordan had temporarily put his commentator application on hold.
If they truly couldn't find a suitable Seeker, then Lee would have to step up and fill the role.
Between a Seeker and a commentator, Lee understood the priority.
After they left, Cedric raised his eyebrows at Kyle and whispered, "Looks like Hufflepuff has a high chance of a consecutive championship this year."
"Not necessarily," Kyle mused. "They might find a Seeker in the next few days."
"It doesn't matter," Cedric asserted confidently. "Regardless of who they get, even if they bring Charlie back, I'm confident I'll be the first to catch the Golden Snitch."
Kyle smiled at Cedric's unwavering determination.
While Cedric was usually humble, when it came to Quidditch, he transformed into a fiercely competitive player who refused to concede defeat.
Of course, this was a positive trait.
On the first weekend of the new term, Kyle decided to pay Hagrid a visit at his hut.
Kona had intended to join him, but she was unexpectedly whisked away by Snape, who seemed to appear out of thin air.
As for Cedric, he headed to the Quidditch pitch with the Weasley brothers.
The teams from all four houses would be holding initial tryouts over the next two days, and he intended to scout for any promising newcomers.
For instance, Autumn had signed up for the Ravenclaw team as a Seeker this year, and he was curious about her skills.
Cedric wasn't sure how good she was, but he was intrigued to find out.
Last year's Ravenclaw team had been abysmal, serving as mere pushovers for the other teams. Their matches had been devoid of any excitement or challenge.
If Ravenclaw acquired a reliable Seeker this year, the matches would undoubtedly become more engaging.
However, the thought of losing to them never crossed Cedric's mind.
Hufflepuff had been the champions last year, and with Kyle on their team now, they could only get stronger.
