Chapter 151: The Telegram
Chapter 151: The Telegram
Hu Xian and Lao Wan stood in a daze, staring at Chen Chuan's figure. The scene in the hall before them was nothing like what they had imagined. The dazzling sunlight illuminated the blood-stained floor and a flickering blade, causing a momentary sense of bewilderment.
As a member of the Review Committee, Hu Xian quickly regained her composure and searched the room with her sharp gaze for Fist Lion. It didn't take much effort to locate him.
He was in the most conspicuous spot, relatively intact compared to the others, with a natural expression. He was the kind of person you could piece together for a photo.
Her tense expression relaxed, and she couldn't help but laugh at her own nervousness.
Fist Lion was a significant figure, and his team was also very capable, which was why they were selected for evaluation.
However, she had imagined the evaluation to involve prior reconnaissance, planning, and then an intense battle or the smooth execution of a plan. But she never expected it to be something so unexpected that even racking her brains wouldn't have helped. She couldn't help but ask, "Is that it?"
Lao Wan remained silent for a while, then finally hummed in agreement.
Chen Chuan had already sensed the arrival of the two, but he didn't turn around. He continued to stand with his blade, his gaze fixed on the staircase above. At that moment, footsteps could be heard descending from above.
Hu Xian and Lao Wan also noticed and raised their guns, aiming at the source of the sound.
The footsteps were steady and firm, each step landing with purpose. A middle-aged man wearing a fedora descended the stairs.
Hu Xian raised an eyebrow and lowered her gun, saying, "Old Feng, is that you?" She added with a hint of annoyance, "You didn't even tell me you were here?"
Old Feng felt helpless. He hadn't seen what had happened earlier and was still searching for a good observation spot when he suddenly heard gunshots. He rushed over without any time to notify anyone. As for coming down from the stairs, it was only to maintain his cover.
Chen noticed that they knew each other and patted his fluttering scarf before sheathing his blade.
Just then, the sound of a car approaching from outside reached them. Old Feng's expression turned solemn, and he said, "It seems another guest has arrived. I'll go and handle it."
He descended the stairs and headed outside. As he passed by Chen, he nodded in greeting.
Hu Xian approached and said, "That's our Review Committee's evaluator and the Bureau's envoy. He's in charge of scoring your performance." She turned to examine Chen and said, "You're quite something, young man. You took care of them in such a short time. I was unnecessarily worried."
Chen sincerely replied, "Thank you, Sister Hu." He then turned to Lao Wan and said, "Thank you, Brother Wan." Regardless of the circumstances, these two had rushed in to help him without knowing the full situation, and he was grateful for their support.
"What are you thanking me for?"
Hu Xian looked around and felt relieved. "You've really opened my eyes, young man. No wonder Old Feng is so keen on you. I've never seen him pay so much attention to any other evaluation candidate."
At that moment, outside, a fleet of blue cars drove into the street, and among them was a stretched luxury vehicle. Inside sat a handsome man in his thirties, wearing a coat and sporting a small beard.
The passenger in the front seat glanced forward. With his sharp eyes, he noticed the shattered glass on the building and turned to say, "Boss, we're here, but it seems there might be a problem ahead."
The handsome man asked, "Go and check it out."
Old Feng had already reached the front of the building, standing in front of the convoy as it slowly came to a stop. A group of people emerged, some taking up defensive positions on either side, while the rest aimed their guns at him.
Old Feng felt the strong wind outside and adjusted his fedora with his hand, his gaze fixed on the luxury car. He paid no attention to the guns pointed at him.
The handsome man remained seated in the car, but a burly bodyguard descended and approached Old Feng. After scrutinizing him, the bodyguard lifted his chin and asked, "Who are you?"
Old Feng reached into his pocket, causing the surrounding people to raise their guns slightly. He barked, "Don't move!"
Old Feng's expression remained calm as he said, "Relax, I'm alone."
The burly bodyguard continued to stare at him, and Old Feng slowly took out a name card from his inner pocket and raised it as a gesture. The bodyguard glanced at it and was immediately startled. "Please wait a moment."
He rushed back to the stretched luxury car and spoke to the person inside.
A short while later, the car door opened, and the handsome man stepped out. He gestured downward with his hand, signaling the others to lower their guns. He approached Old Feng, examined the name card, and then looked at Old Feng.
"Great Shun National Administration Bureau? Mr. Feng?" He glanced at the building beside them, deep in thought, and then flashed a charming smile. "Is there anything we can help you with, Mr. Feng?"
Old Feng put the name card away and said, "It's fine. We'll handle it. It seems Mr. Blue Sparrow will have made the trip for nothing."
The handsome man waved his finger dismissively and said, "It's no trouble. I'm glad to have met you, Mr. Feng."
Old Feng said, "Is that so? But Mr. Blue Sparrow didn't even want to shake hands with me."
The handsome man coughed into his hand and said, "We won't disturb the Bureau's work any further. Farewell." He nodded politely and returned to the car.
Soon after, the convoy began to retreat and turn around, heading back the way it came.
Inside the luxury car, an attendant suddenly asked, "Boss, why give that man from the Administration Bureau so much face? He's just a clerk."
"Do you believe everything written on a name card?"
The handsome man glanced at him and said casually, "Besides, the Administration Bureau has eyes and ears everywhere. Who knows, maybe they're keeping an eye on us too?"
I don't want to wake up one day with a gun pressed against my head." He spoke to the driver in front, "Ah Xing, you agree, right?"
Ah Xing, without turning his head, replied, "Boss, I don't understand these things."
"You don't understand? It's better not to understand." The handsome man chuckled and then sighed, "What a pity for that battle spider, it was the best portable bio-weapon from Taryana."
Lao Feng waited until the convoy left before turning back to the building.
Chen Chuan had already sheathed the Snow Lady Sword and was standing by the window, holding the sword. His chestnut red scarf was still eye-catching even amidst the bloodstained ground.
Hu Xian was inspecting the surroundings. Apart from a few henchmen with faint breaths and the unconscious Bee Woman, most of the people were killed instantly, their deaths were so clean and efficient that it sent chills down one's spine.
Seeing Lao Feng return, Chen Chuan asked, "Special Envoy Feng, I heard from Sister Hu that you are the reviewer for this assessment. I wonder if I have passed this evaluation?"
Lao Feng looked at the scattered limbs and corpses on the ground, suddenly feeling a bit guilty about yesterday's evaluation.
He spoke solemnly, "The specific results still need to be reported to the review committee for confirmation. However, in my personal opinion, Chen Student, you have severely injured or killed all the assessment targets, meeting the requirements. You should have passed this assessment. Chen Student, perhaps I should congratulate you in advance."
Chen Chuan received his confirmation and felt relieved. He glanced into the hall, "Then may I ask Mr. Feng, how should we deal with the things left behind by these people?"
Lao Feng smiled and said, "During the assessment, all spoils of war can be taken by the assessed student. Chen Student, don't be shy, although our funds are tight, we are always generous to capable students."
Chen Chuan asked, "Including the battle spider?"
Lao Feng affirmed, "Yes, including the battle spider. You can take whatever you need, and the bodies will be collected."
Chen Chuan nodded. He had already retrieved the gold certificate from the Fist Lion and it wasn't just his; other students who participated in the operation were also entitled to a share, so he needed to bring it back.
As for the other items, like firearms and vehicles, he couldn't handle them and had no way of taking them, but he could leave them to Hu Xian to deal with.
He walked over and shared his thoughts with Hu Xian.
Hu Xian said, "Brother Chen, I can help you convert the rest of these things into money, but you should take the battle spider back. It's too eye-catching here, and it's not good for my business."
Regarding turning it in, she advised, "Don't bother thinking about it. The authorities won't value this thing. It will likely be deducted during the process and end up in the hands of some bastard, or even gather dust in a warehouse. You should keep it."
Chen Chuan thought for a moment and said, "I heard this thing needs to consume high-energy nutrients?"
Hu Xian casually replied, "It's fine. If you don't need it, you can let it hibernate. Even if you can only use it once at a critical moment, it's still worth it. You can look around here; there should be some of those nutrients left."
Chen Chuan said, "Okay, then I'll leave the rest to Sister Hu. Sister Hu and the team have worked hard, and they deserve a share. Please also leave some for Mr. Feng."
Although Lao Feng said he didn't want anything, he didn't really mean it. Whether to take it or not was Lao Feng's choice, and whether to give it or not was up to him.
Hu Xian said, "Since Brother Chen trusts me so much, I'll definitely handle it properly. I'll remember what you said about Mr. Feng." Then she turned and instructed, "Lao Wan, go and call the others, it's time to work."
She glanced around again. Although this was still a job of collecting corpses, it was the most satisfying one because all the dead were those who deserved it.
As they dealt with the aftermath, Lao Feng returned to the inn alone and entered a hidden room. He closed the door, took out a pen, and began writing a draft of a telegram. However, after several attempts, he was still dissatisfied, feeling that he couldn't express his thoughts adequately. He crumpled up the drafts and threw them aside.
In the end, he simply recited the content and then added three exclamation marks at the end, which he rarely used!
After finishing the telegram, he crouched down, took a radio from the cabinet, placed it on the table, and put on headphones to transmit the message.
As the room filled with the sound of the radio, the content of the telegram was transmitted via radio waves, passing through numerous relay stations across the vast land, and eventually reaching a secret area's National Administration Bureau headquarters. It was then delivered to the desk of the person in charge through a special courier.
Just half a day later, a telegram was sent out from the headquarters.
Lao Feng remained by the radio, waiting for the specific signal. When it arrived, he felt a surge of excitement and recorded the subsequent encrypted telegram.
He quickly removed the headphones and translated the content from memory.
"After verification by relevant departments and personnel, Yangzhi Wuyi Military Academy student Chen Chuan has met the requirements of the review committee during the assessment. He is approved to receive a Class B Infinite Defense Certificate." The sender was "Great Shun National Infinite Defense Certificate Review Committee, Great Shun National Administration Bureau."
For some reason, upon receiving this telegram, even the reviewer felt a surge of excitement.
He sat down to calm his emotions, casually burned the original draft, and then stood up. He glanced at the clock on the wall; it was 11 p.m., already late, but he felt he shouldn't wait until tomorrow. He should immediately deliver this news to the young man.
