Chapter 151: Spider Crisis
Chapter 151: Spider Crisis
Before them lay a mountainous region.
The valley was dotted with towering peaks, each with its own dense forest, creating an endless sea of green that shimmered with life under the sun's rays. It was as if this place nurtured boundless vitality.
But the reality was far different.
Linsey stood at the edge of this mountainous area.
He didn't even need to venture in to know what awaited him.
Within the mountain forests, a horde of adorable little creatures dwelled—the Corrupted Venom Spiders.
"It's so hot..."
Linsey raised an eyebrow and clicked his tongue.
The Dragon Beast's evolution had caused the world's temperature to be influenced by altitude.
The environment around him suddenly shifted from winter to a scorching summer, an unpleasant experience indeed.
And to make matters worse, the Corrupted Venom Spiders in the forest were to blame.
Amidst the maple, oak, and beech trees, only the rustling of leaves in the wind could be heard, devoid of the usual lively chirping of birds. The tranquility and vitality of nature were nowhere to be found.
Yet, Linsey couldn't afford to bypass this area.
After descending from the climbing vines, he had crossed the previous hilly terrain, only to find that every path ahead was blocked by this mountainous region.
"Tsk..."
"You were so eager during the chase before, but now you want to settle old scores?"
This time, Linsey chose to venture into the Black Mountain World alone.
With no one watching, he felt more at ease in certain aspects.
He rummaged through his bag and put on the Treant Flower Crown, adorned his feet with a pair of adorable Gray Rabbit Shoes, and replaced his Mountain Emblem with the Inferno Emblem. He adorned himself with pendants, brooches, and emblems all at once.
In the blink of an eye, Linsey transformed from a simple small-town youth into a serious player exuding strength and aesthetics.
He even took out the Ice Badger Fang Mace with interest, slinging it over his back, feeling an instant boost in his capabilities.
However, when it came to the Frost Wind Earrings.
Linsey hesitated.
In the game, equipping earrings was as simple as dragging them into the equipment slot. But in reality, Linsey was reluctant to pierce his ears. Recalling what he had seen, he felt that such an action was strange.
He spoke to the air before him:
"Look, this is the wilderness."
"Even though my physique is high, what if the wound gets infected and festers? That would be a disaster."
Linsey convinced himself with this rationale.
As he approached the mountainous area, he gathered some wood and built a temporary shelter.
"Corrupted Venom Spiders..."
"With spiders everywhere, I can't just charge in recklessly."
While preparing his meal, Linsey contemplated his options for navigating this area.
He decided to expand the reconnaissance range on his map.
He confirmed that the entire mountainous region was teeming with traces of the Corrupted Venom Spiders.
Due to this species' sensitivity to vibrations and the abundance of spider webs in the forest, sneaking past them was impossible.
"Set the mountains on fire?"
A bold idea flashed through Linsey's mind, but he quickly shook his head in denial.
Setting aside the moral constraints of his past life's memories, Finn's teachings, and the Death Academy's respect for life, it was unthinkable for him to engage in such madness.
Snap!
At that moment, the food preparation pointer stopped at the corresponding position.
Linsey quickly operated the system, holding a perfectly cooked piece of meat in his hand. He took a bite and began to brainstorm:
"Setting the entire mountain on fire is out of the question, but what if I set a specific area ablaze?"
"Or, with the skills from the Survival Construction Module, I could dig an underground tunnel to bypass this area."
Chapter: The Spider Crisis
As these thoughts swirled in Lindsey's mind, a plan began to take shape.
The last time he was in the Black Mountain region with An Rui, the Corrupted Venom Spiders displayed a strict hierarchical dominance during their battle. Undoubtedly, the five-stage Corrupted Venom Spider was the ruler of this mountainous forestland.
Lindsey had no intention of sneaking past by digging an underground tunnel.
Since he was prepared to fight a seven-stage Dragon Beast to the death, the previous training and combat experience would not only be a chance to test his abilities but also to enhance his own strength. There was no reason to let this opportunity pass by!
"Since these Corrupted Venom Spiders have a clear hierarchical order..."
"...all I need to do is take out the five-stage one, and they'll likely descend into chaos. Then, I can easily pass through this area."
With Lindsey's determination, a corresponding task appeared in his quest log.
Spider Crisis
The first stop in the new world is blocked by spiders. Kill their leader and pass through this mountainous region.
Quest Rewards: Corrupted Venom Corpse Water x5, Attribute/Skill Experience Points.
"Corrupted Venom Corpse Water?"
"I'm not planning any assassination missions, so why would I need corpse water for body disposal?"
Looking at the quest rewards, Lindsey's expression became somewhat peculiar.
However, he didn't dwell on this and instead shifted his attention to the Corrupted Venom Strain itself.
Since he had decided to fight, he couldn't afford to overlook any details.
Chewing on his perfectly roasted meat, Lindsey opened the hunting journal to review the specific attributes of this species.
Corrupted Venom Spider
Arthropod - Non-Elemental Creature ~ Awakened 5th Stage
Length: 0.003-2.3 meters
Weight: 0.02-102 kg
Crawling speed slightly faster than an adult human.
Eight-eyed spider, keen senses, agile, and highly venomous.
Corrupted Venom Spiders prefer to trap their prey in webs. Once the prey is entangled, they swiftly attack, wrapping the prey tightly in durable webs. Then, they pierce the prey, injecting venom. During this process, the spider maintains a tight grip on the prey, and when the prey stops moving, digestive enzymes in the venom begin to break down the prey, which the spider then carries back to its nest.
Weaknesses: Brain, Abdomen.
Hunting Suggestion: Conduct a fire attack outside the spider's web nest.
Kill Achievement: 262/300
Leader Kill Achievement: 0/1
"Even the hunting suggestion tells me to use a fire attack."
Lindsey's primary concern was, of course, the hunting suggestion and the information about the spider's weaknesses.
However, below that, the kill achievement count caught his attention.
After experiencing two battles against Corrupted Venom Spiders in the Black Mountain region and the Hidden Borderlands, his kill count for this demonic beast had reached 262, and his title had evolved from Spider Slayer to Spider Nemesis.
Lindsey could even understand the meaning of their speech from the friction sound of their chelicerae!
"According to the title rules of the hunting simulation..."
"...if I kill 38 more, the title will evolve again!"
"Moreover, by continuing to hunt these spiders, I might gain more clues about their habits and weaknesses!"
At this moment, Lindsey had finished his perfectly roasted meat.
The attribute boost from the food made him feel energized from head to toe.
He stood up, his eyes fixed on the mountainous forestland ahead.
"Since it's come to this..."
Lindsey drew the Horned Great Bow from his back.
However, considering the noise this weapon would make, he opted for an ordinary wooden bow and proceeded into the forest.
"Let's go! I'll complete my kill achievements!"
