Chapter 151: Searching the Mountain (Part Four)
Chapter 151: Searching the Mountain (Part Four)
As night fell, the demon hunters began their search in the mountains, but Mo Hua did not join them.
Both Mo Shan and Elder Yu stopped him from going.
There was a possibility of conflict with the Qian family, and with the night's dark shadows and high winds in the Great Black Mountain, it could be dangerous.
Although Mo Hua was fearless, he didn't feel like taking unnecessary risks, so he obediently stayed at home and practiced his array techniques.
The next morning, Mo Shan returned, looking exhausted and damp with dew, but without any injuries or signs of having engaged in a fight.
"Didn't find anything?" Mo Hua asked.
Mo Shan nodded, "The Qian family is hiding very well, not a trace to be found."
"Then take me with you tonight," Mo Hua said.
Mo Shan frowned, "It's very dangerous."
"I'll just stay at the base camp and won't go out," Mo Hua assured him.
"Then what's the point of you being there?" Mo Shan asked, puzzled.
Mo Hua chuckled, "You'll see."
Mo Shan thought for a moment and then agreed.
With Mo Hua's agility, as long as there wasn't a full-scale battle with the Qian family, and he was careful to avoid the indiscriminate flying swords and spiritual energy, it should be safe enough for him to stay in the outer mountains.
As night fell, the Great Black Mountain was shrouded in darkness, the mountain itself becoming indistinct and veiled in shadows.
Mo Hua followed the demon hunters up the mountain, the path ahead pitch black, so dark that one couldn't see their hand in front of their face.
Only the damp, cold mountain breeze blew through, rustling the leaves, and in the distance, the howls of demonic beasts could be heard.
Mo Shan led Mo Hua to a campsite, securely locking the gate before lighting a lamp and bringing out a fur blanket to wrap Mo Hua up snugly like a little dumpling.
"It gets cold in the mountains at night, so be careful not to catch a chill."
Mo Hua poked his little head out from the blanket and nodded.
"Be careful and try not to go out. If you encounter any danger, set off one of your fireworks, and a demon hunter will come to your aid." Mo Shan instructed patiently.
Mo Hua nodded again, "Don't worry, Dad. I know these outer mountains like the back of my hand."
He had traversed these paths countless times while hunting demons, collecting blood, searching for spices, mining for ores, gathering herbs, and creating maps.
To him, the outer mountains were as familiar as his own backyard.
Although the Great Black Mountain was more dangerous at night, Mo Hua's spiritual sense was strong, and as long as he remained vigilant, he was confident he could avoid any major problems.
Moreover, there were many demon hunters currently searching for the Qian family in these outer mountains, so he knew he'd be among familiar faces.
Mo Shan smiled, shook his head, and patted Mo Hua's little head, "I'll be going now. Take care."
After Mo Shan left, Mo Hua opened his storage bag and took out the compass of the Si Nan Mother Array, setting it aside.
He then released his spiritual sense to inspect the surroundings, ensuring there were no abnormalities before taking out his brush and ink to redraw an array on the campsite's gate.
The array was a composite array that included the Solid Earth Array, strengthening the earth and stones to make the gate even more impenetrable.
After all, Mo Hua intended to spend the night in the camp.
As an array master, he could only feel at ease while resting within an array of his own creation.
Mo Hua thought to himself.
He then took out some beef and fruit wine, eating and drinking while studying the First-Rank Nine-Line Array by the light of the lamp, his eyes occasionally glancing at the Si Nan Mother Array's compass.
Thus, he spent a peaceful night without incident.
Nothing happened.
The next morning, after a fruitless night of searching, a weary Mo Shan saw a well-fed and relaxed Mo Hua, and he couldn't help but feel a twinge of mixed emotions.
"Are you coming again tomorrow night?" Mo Shan asked.
Mo Hua nodded, "I'll be there."
And so, on the second and third nights, Mo Hua accompanied Mo Shan into the Great Black Mountain, staying at the campsite for the night.
But still, nothing happened.
It was only on the fourth night, as Mo Hua sat wrapped in his little blanket, eating lamb and flipping through an array manual, that the Si Nan Mother Array's compass suddenly lit up with a pinpoint of light.
Mo Hua's eyes lit up as well.
They're here! They've shown their hand!
The Qian family cultivators might be able to hide from the demon hunters, but they couldn't hide from the demonic beasts.
However, such battles didn't happen every day, so one needed to be patient and wait for their opportunity.
And today, that opportunity had landed right in Mo Hua's lap.
Mo Hua spread out the map and, with the help of the Si Nan Mother Array, quickly determined the location.
It was a small hill at the junction of the outer and inner mountains, a desolate place rarely visited by cultivators.
Mo Hua extinguished the lamp, packed up his things, and left the campsite.
Outside, the moonlight was hazy, and the mountain trees cast heavy shadows, leaving everything shrouded in darkness.
Mo Hua closed his eyes and released his spiritual sense to its fullest extent.
The surrounding pitch-black darkness instantly transformed into a pale white void.
A moment later, Mo Hua opened his eyes and walked toward a particular direction.
There, a demon hunter was carefully searching the mountain.
The mountain was lush with foliage, and as the hunter focused on his task, he suddenly felt a small hand patting his shoulder, scaring him so much that his soul almost left his body.
"Shh!" Mo Hua quickly hushed him. "Uncle Wu."
Hearing Mo Hua's voice, the demon hunter calmed down. His heart was still pounding wildly.
"Mo Hua, oh... Don't do that, you scared me to death," Uncle Wu exclaimed.
Mo Hua was perplexed. He had just walked up and patted him on the shoulder, was that really so scary?
"You're an adult now, can't you be a bit more calm?" Mo Hua asked.
Uncle Wu came back to his senses and whispered, "What are you doing here? Didn't your father tell you to stay at the campsite?"
"I'm looking for my father," Mo Hua replied.
"Oh." Uncle Wu nodded. "Your father is over at the Big Mountain Rock area."
"Thank you, Uncle Wu."
Uncle Wu looked at Mo Hua with concern and said, "It's dark and windy tonight, and it's dangerous in the mountains. Do you want me to escort you there?"
Mo Hua shook his head. "No need, I can manage. You go ahead, Uncle Wu."
Uncle Wu nodded. "If you encounter any danger, just shout, and I'll come to help."
Mo Hua thanked him again and then made his way toward the Big Mountain Rock.
After Mo Hua left, Uncle Wu continued his search. As he was scouring the area, he suddenly felt a jolt in his heart. "How come Mo Hua's footsteps make no sound at all?"
It was as if he was walking without touching the ground, as if something was lifting him as he walked.
And just now, why hadn't he sensed Mo Hua's approach at all?
He hadn't detected anything, neither through his spiritual sense nor by sensing his aura or hearing his footsteps...
A cold mountain breeze blew through, causing the trees to rustle ominously.
Uncle Wu felt a chill run down his spine, and he shivered once more.
"Never mind, I shouldn't think about it. If I keep thinking, my soul might really fly away..."
Uncle Wu shook his head vigorously and focused his attention back on the task at hand, continuing his search.
On the other hand, Mo Hua was making his way swiftly using the Shi Shui Step.
A faint spiritual energy, like ripples on water, supported his feet, making his movements light and silent while also increasing his speed.
When Mo Hua arrived at the Big Mountain Rock, he released his spiritual sense and soon spotted his father, Mo Shan, not far to his left, carefully searching for clues.
Mo Shan, too, was sensing for any traces, when suddenly, he felt something. He looked up and saw a small figure approaching him.
"Hua'er?"
"Dad." Mo Hua quickly reached Mo Shan's side.
"Didn't I tell you to stay at the campsite?" Mo Shan asked, a little worried.
"I know," Mo Hua replied.
Mo Shan was taken aback. "Know what?"
"I know where the spirit mine is!" Mo Hua exclaimed.
