Chapter 151: Meeting with Damocles Marcus
Chapter 151: Meeting with Damocles Marcus
Ding
The elevator doors slowly opened, and Ivan found himself in the main hall of the Ministry of Magic. Unlike the spacious and luxurious entrance hall above, the main hall was decorated in a more solemn and imposing manner.
As soon as they entered, they drew the attention of everyone present. A middle-aged wizard in his forties, balding, quickly approached and embraced Douglas.
"Old friend, it's been a long time!" Douglas warmly patted the middle-aged wizard's back. After they parted, Douglas looked down at Ivan and introduced him.
"This is Head Stamp of the Patent Office, one of my best friends."
"Mr. Stamp, hello", Ivan replied politely.
"You are the inventor of the Wolfsbane Potion? My goodness, although Douglas mentioned your age in his letter, I always thought he was joking", Stamp said, looking at Ivan, who appeared to be no more than eleven or twelve years old. He then half-joked to Douglas.
"To be honest, my old friends found it hard to believe that a young wizard could develop the Wolfsbane Potion. You know, it requires a deep understanding of werewolves."
"But isn't that the truth, Mr. Stamp?" Ivan couldn't help but interject, then continued.
"Moreover, I believe it's not that the development of the Wolfsbane Potion is too difficult, but rather that there are too few Potions Masters who care about the plight of werewolves. That's why no one had come up with a solution before this."
Ivan's words made Stamp a bit uncomfortable.
At that moment, a round of applause echoed through the hall, accompanied by a deep voice.
"Well said!"
Ivan turned to see a young wizard, around thirty years old, who was likely the youngest person in the main hall besides himself.
Before Ivan could ask, the young wizard spoke indignantly.
"You're right. The entire wizarding World doesn't care about the current state of werewolves. They simply view werewolves as anomalies, troublemakers, and unstable elements.
But they forget that most werewolves are also victims of attacks, once normal wizards who have done nothing wrong, yet they are treated this way!"
Compared to Ivan's more tactful words, the young wizard was much more direct and unfiltered.
After his angry outburst, the wizard's tone softened as he looked at Ivan.
"By the way, I haven't introduced myself. I am Damocles Marcus, a wizard researching the Werewolf issue."
"Hello, Mr. Marcus!" Ivan said calmly, though he felt a bit uneasy inside.
If his memory served him right, this was the original inventor of the Wolfsbane Potion. Ivan never expected to meet him in person here.
The most crucial point was the timing. Marcus should be close to independently developing the Wolfsbane Potion. Ivan wondered if he had already formulated the recipe.
Ivan suddenly felt a headache coming on, worried that Marcus might be here to cause trouble.
After all, anyone who is about to achieve a significant breakthrough would be far from happy to find someone else had beaten them to it.
However, to Ivan's surprise, Marcus was very friendly towards him.
After a few polite exchanges, Marcus began chatting familiarly about the current state of werewolves and speculations about the Werewolf Uprising. He even shared some of his experimental results, inviting Ivan to discuss them together.
Fortunately, Ivan's Potion-making skills were not low, and he had been in contact with werewolves for some time, so he handled the situation very easily, even coming up with some new ideas.
"Do you think the transformation of werewolves is a special kind of Animagus transformation?" Marcus asked in surprise. He had been researching werewolves for many years and had seen them transform into their feral forms multiple times, but he had never thought of it this way.
"Yes! When I was at Hogwarts, Professor Mcgonagall mentioned some details about Animagus transformations during her Transfiguration class.
Additionally, I have a few Werewolf friends in Knockturn Alley. After they experimented with my Wolfsbane Potion, they could freely control their strength while in Werewolf form, which led me to this hypothesis."
At this point, Ivan hesitated and did not mention his discoveries while analyzing the Werewolf body. Instead, he shook his head, slightly disappointed.
"Unfortunately, the Wolfsbane Potion has a limited duration. If it could be improved to allow werewolves to maintain their rationality and freely control their transformations, how would that be different from an Animagus transformation?"
After hearing this, Marcus initially thought Ivan was being fanciful and was about to refute him. However, upon deeper reflection, he realized that this possibility was not entirely out of the question.
"If this hypothesis is true, the wizarding World would be in an uproar", Marcus said, amazed.
After all, Animagus transformation is a highly advanced form of Transfiguration. In the entire British wizarding World, only a dozen or so people have mastered it.
Animagi usually transform into harmless animals that serve for reconnaissance and stealth, far from the capabilities of a Werewolf form.
If one day Ivan could indeed develop the improved Potion he described, Werewolf wizards would no longer be feared objects but might even be fervently pursued by some wizards!
After all, the greatest weakness of wizards is their vulnerable physical bodies when attacked at close range. The Werewolf form could effectively address this issue.
More importantly, this ability is incredibly easy to acquire. It's as simple as being bitten by a Werewolf and drinking a bottle of the improved Wolfsbane Potion to unlock it.
Thinking about this, Marcus began to look at the young wizard in front of him with newfound respect.
Before coming to the Ministry of Magic, Marcus had harbored some doubts about Ivan, the developer of the Wolfsbane Potion.
For years, he had been diligently researching the Werewolf problem, and despite his efforts, he had only achieved some results, still lacking a few key points.
When he received the news two days ago, his first reaction was to wonder if his research had been stolen. So he put aside his work and rushed to the Ministry to meet with the other party.
After a series of conversations, Ivan answered his various professional questions confidently, showed sympathy for werewolves, and expressed dissatisfaction with the Ministry's neglect of the Werewolf issue. This gradually eased Marcus's suspicions, and he began to take the young wizard more seriously.
When Ivan proposed the new idea about the Werewolf form, Marcus completely forgot his initial doubts and even felt a bit ashamed of his earlier thoughts.
In his view, Ivan's research on the Werewolf problem went deeper and farther than his own!
