Chapter 151: It Has a Beastmaster
Chapter 151: It Has a Beastmaster
"Although this wick can help someone survive for a while, once the energy inside it is depleted or the wick is removed, that person will die immediately."
"However, the wick cannot be removed carelessly. Once it is taken out, it essentially ruins the Ghost Lantern's path to evolution. Removing the wick causes permanent damage to the Ghost Lantern's foundation."
Qiao Sang was taken aback. "Didn't you say earlier that without the wick, a Ghost Lantern would die immediately, like a person without a heart? And that the human body couldn't handle it?"
Liu Yao: "……"
"Yes, they will die, and the human body can't handle it, but it's just a matter of time." Liu Yao tried to salvage his dignity.
Qiao Sang didn't doubt anything and continued, "So, how long can the wick stay inside a human body?"
Seeing that Qiao Sang wasn't dwelling on the issue, Liu Yao sighed with relief, and his tone became more relaxed. "It should be around three days."
Three days…
The timing didn't match.
Based on the time when the Ghost Lantern disappeared, it had been over half a month…
"What if the wick stays in the human body for about half a month?" Qiao Sang thought for a moment and asked.
Liu Yao was silent for a moment before answering, "That's impossible. After three days, the wick's energy will be depleted, and without replenishment, the person will die on the spot."
"Moreover, without the wick, the Ghost Lantern's internal energy cannot be replenished, and it won't be able to sustain itself for long."
Having an expert around was truly helpful. This phone call gave Qiao Sang a clear idea about the Ghost Lantern's whereabouts.
After hanging up, Qiao Sang ordered takeout at her place.
Since the wick's energy would eventually run out and it couldn't stay in a human body for long, to ensure Old Lady's safety, the Ghost Lantern would have to return every two days to recharge the wick's energy.
Without the wick, the Ghost Lantern would need to find a place to gather energy to replenish both the wick and itself. It would likely be somewhere Ghost-type Companion Beasts prefer.
Ghost Lanterns favor vital essence, which is abundant in young people, especially in places with high hormonal activity.
Places like bars, schools, clubs, or venues hosting events would be ideal.
Hanggang City was vast, making it difficult to search. Since the Ghost Lantern would return every few days to recharge, and Old Lady didn't know about it, it would likely come at night when everyone was asleep.
If her guess was correct, she could simply wait for it.
If not, the wick's energy would last at most three days, and the School Team would gather in five days, leaving her two days to come up with a plan.
With this in mind, Qiao Sang looked up and smiled. "Fangy, do you want to rest?"
"Ya."
Fangy shook its head honestly.
Rest?
No! It had boundless energy!
"No, you want to rest", Qiao Sang said with a smile, looking at Fangy.
"Fangy."
Fangy looked back, puzzled. It didn't want to rest…
One minute later.
West Shadow Neighborhood.
Beside the entrance of Unit 5.
A majestic red-and-white familiar lay on the ground, with a slender girl resting on its back.
Qiao Sang lay on Fangy, holding her mobile phone while waiting for the takeout.
Fangy didn't want to rest, but she did.
…
9:00 PM.
Hanggang City.
Linhu Reservoir, under the pedestrian bridge.
Many people were approaching this area and then disappearing.
A closer look revealed a hidden door under the bridge.
The door opened automatically, revealing a bustling, lively scene inside, completely different from the outside world.
This was the venue of an Underground Familiar Black Market.
The entire arena was filled with the smell of sweat, tobacco, and hormones.
"Toxiscorpion!"
"Ghost Lantern!"
"Ghost Lantern!"
The crowd chanted the names of the two familiars, with the majority of the audience shouting for Ghost Lantern.
In the center of the arena, the entirely purple Toxiscorpion lay motionless on the ground.
The Referee approached and began the countdown.
"1."
"2..."
Just then, the motionless Toxiscorpion flicked its long tail, and several Venom Stingers shot out, their silver tips gleaming sharply.
The crowd cheering for Ghost Lantern was taken aback, not expecting such a last-minute ambush!
The attack speed of the Venom Stingers was too fast, leaving Ghost Lantern unprepared. Several of the Venom Stingers pierced its body.
"Ghost Lantern! Take it down!" the scarred man at the command area roared.
Everything in front of Ghost Lantern became blurry, and the sounds in its ears seemed to come from far away.
It gasped for breath, trying to activate its wick. Just as it sensed its surroundings, it suddenly realized it had no wick left.
"Ghost Lantern, what are you waiting for? Take it down!" the scarred man shouted.
"Vampire..."
Despite the intense pain, Ghost Lantern slowly raised its claw, condensing a dark shadow ball and throwing it at the blurry figure on the ground.
...
"What was that about, reacting so slowly?" the scarred man complained in the backstage area.
Ghost Lantern looked at him expressionlessly.
The man's heart skipped a beat and quickly changed his tone. "At least you won in the end. Otherwise, we would have wasted our time."
Ghost Lantern remained silent.
"Here, this is your reward", the man said, already used to Ghost Lantern's lack of response, and tossed a box toward it.
The box fell to the ground in front of Ghost Lantern.
The man was startled. "Hey, I didn't mean to throw it like that! You didn't catch it!"
Ghost Lantern's ears buzzed, and it couldn't hear what the man was saying. It knew it couldn't collapse just yet.
"We've been working together for so long, and you haven't changed a bit. Have you even considered what would happen without me to get you into these matches?" the man grumbled, picking up the box and holding it out to Ghost Lantern.
Everything in front of Ghost Lantern was blurry, but it struggled to focus and managed to see the box for a moment.
It sighed in relief; the fight hadn't been in vain.
Ghost Lantern tried to reach out with its claw but found it lacked the strength.
"Vampire."
Ghost Lantern called out coldly.
The man paused, turning to the Longtail Serpent. "What did it say?"
"Tail."
The Longtail Serpent translated.
The man's lips twitched as he opened the box, took out the contents, and forced them into Ghost Lantern's mouth.
"You're such a pain", the man complained as he did so.
After swallowing the contents, Ghost Lantern finally regained some strength and sensory function. It used the little energy it had left to wrap the substance inside its body, preventing it from spreading further.
"Are you coming back tomorrow?" the man asked.
Ghost Lantern nodded.
Seeing that Ghost Lantern was finally responding, the man smiled. "We've known each other for so long, and you still won't tell me where you come from. You know, wild familiars are very dangerous around here. If it weren't for me, you would have been caught long ago."
"I think we get along well. How about you just bond with me when I get the next page of my Beastmaster Codex?"
Ghost Lantern ignored him and turned to drift toward the door.
It wasn't a wild familiar; it had a Beastmaster.
