Chapter 150: The Joys of Freebies
Chapter 150: The Joys of Freebies
"A third-grade Golden Marrow Jade Liquid!"
Lu Chen held the golden, viscous liquid in his hand, feeling delighted.
Without hesitation, he directly ingested the drop of Golden Marrow Jade Liquid.
As soon as the liquid entered his body, Lu Chen felt a wave of warmth coursing through his limbs and bones, penetrating to the surface of his skeleton, forming a thin film that enveloped his entire skeletal structure.
A mild tingling sensation spread throughout his body, as if countless hair-like strands were gently brushing over the surface of his bones.
The tingling sensation gradually faded, and the outer film was completely absorbed by his bones. Lu Chen felt that the strength of his skeletal structure had increased significantly.
After obtaining the Liuli Tempering Bone Technique, his cultivation progress during the Qi Refining stage had been excellent due to the absorption of several experience packets. As for the foundation-building stage, Lu Chen had not yet started cultivating it in earnest.
With the effects of the Liuli Tempering Bone Technique, his bones were like white jade, harder than many first and second-grade spiritual artifacts.
Now, with the addition of the Golden Marrow Jade Liquid, the strength of his bones had reached a new level. Lu Chen estimated that they were no weaker than most second-grade artifacts.
With a focused perception, he could also sense that the Golden Marrow Jade Liquid was evenly distributed throughout every part of his skeleton, slowly nourishing and supplementing it, leaving a warm and comfortable feeling within his bones.
Satisfied, Lu Chen checked the progress of the other four Copper Bone Bamboos. Their progress bars were almost full, but he decided to wait a few more days before harvesting, considering that early harvesting might affect the quality of the bamboo.
As for the mature Copper Bone Bamboo, he directly stored it in his storage bag, thinking about finding an opportunity to sell it.
Lu Chen continued to inspect his spirit fields, checking on the growth of each spiritual herb and tending to their subtle needs.
"It's time to find a new spiritual herb," he thought, glancing at his fields.
With the successive maturings of the second-grade Qingmiao Spirit Tea and the Copper Bone Bamboo, as well as the third-grade Illusion Smoke Rafflesia and Dragonvine entering the maturity stage, the variety of spiritual herbs in his fields had decreased significantly. Lu Chen decided to visit the Agricultural Palace to purchase a high-grade spirit seed.
The next day, he woke up early and meticulously nurtured all the spiritual herbs in his fields. Then, he activated the Mist Hidden Mystical Formation, causing thick white mist to rapidly spread and envelop his cave abode.
Lu Chen arrived at the foot of the mountain, where three Spirit Cranes were waiting for the cultivators who needed their services.
The moment they saw Lu Chen, the three Spirit Cranes simultaneously let out cheerful cries and quickly flapped their wings, approaching him.
"Hey, don't crowd!" Lu Chen said hastily as the three cranes jostled together.
If it weren't for the fact that he had just helped the entire Spirit Crane clan solve a major problem, he would have thought that these three cranes were competing for his business.
At his persuasion, the three Spirit Cranes calmed down. Their black and white eyes shone as they looked at Lu Chen, seemingly afraid that he would not choose them.
"You," Lu Chen said, closing his eyes and pointing randomly at one of the cranes.
The chosen Spirit Crane raised its small head proudly.
Noticing a hint of sadness in the other two cranes, Lu Chen comforted them with a few words before leaping onto the back of the crane that had been waiting impatiently.
"To the Agricultural Palace," he said.
In less than half a moment, the Spirit Crane landed on a flat area next to the Agricultural Palace.
Lu Chen took out a spirit stone from his storage bag and offered it to the crane.
The crane shook its long neck and let out a crisp cry, indicating refusal.
"Take it quickly. This is for the fare; I can't let you fly me here for free," Lu Chen insisted, placing the spirit stone into a small bag hanging from the crane's neck before turning to leave.
Lu Chen turned in another direction, but the crane persisted, following closely behind him, determined to have him take the spirit stone.
"Alright, then I gratefully accept your kindness."
Seeing the crane's resolute attitude, Lu Chen reluctantly took the spirit stone from its beak.
The Spirit Crane let out a crisp cry as a farewell, then soared into the sky and quickly disappeared from view.
"I never expected that this ride on the Spirit Crane would be free of charge, saving me a spirit stone."
Lu Chen felt the joy of a freebie, and his mood brightened as he walked towards the entrance of the Agricultural Palace.
Behind him, a young cultivator dismounted from another Spirit Crane and witnessed this scene. He had been about to pay the crane with a spirit stone but hesitated and pulled his hand back.
"Could it be that the Beast Taming Pavilion has suddenly developed a benevolent heart, and riding the Spirit Cranes is now free of charge?"
He decided to follow Lu Chen's example and headed straight for the Agricultural Palace.
However, he was suddenly gripped by pain, and when he turned around, he saw the Spirit Crane he had just ridden staring at him viciously.
Taking advantage of the cultivator's momentary distraction, the crane swiftly pecked the spirit stone from his hand with its long beak. Before flying away, it even gave him a disdainful look.
"Why is there such a big difference in treatment, when we're both outer sect disciples and used the same Spirit Cranes?"
The young cultivator stood there, bewildered and confused.
"Land brother, it's been a while since you last visited the Agricultural Palace."
As soon as Lu Chen entered the hall, the elderly monk greeted him with a smile and a friendly welcome.
"Greetings, Brother."
"How are the two Sword Grass plants that Land brother is cultivating doing? Are they growing well?"
The elderly monk nodded and asked curiously.
"They're doing quite well so far, with no problems."
Lu Chen replied honestly.
"That's good to hear. Elder Shen has high expectations for the two Sword Grass plants you're cultivating!"
The elderly monk smiled and continued.
"Has Land brother come here to look for another Spirit Seed?"
"Yes, I would like to ask Brother Senior for a recommendation, preferably a third-grade or higher Spirit Seed."
Lu Chen replied softly.
The rewards from first-grade Spirit Plants were now insignificant to him. As for second-grade Spirit Plants, he was already cultivating several varieties in his cave abode. If he were to plant a new variety, by the time it matured, he might have already broken through to the Foundation Establishment stage.
At that point, the rewards from a mature second-grade Spirit Plant might not be as valuable.
Therefore, apart from the Spirit Firefly Grass, Lu Chen decided to reduce the number of low-grade Spirit Plants he cultivated and focus mainly on third-grade varieties.
"It seems that I have indeed underestimated Land brother's attainments in the way of Spirit Plants. You truly live up to your reputation as a Spirit Plant cultivator capable of cultivating the Sword Grass."
The elderly monk sighed in admiration. Lu Chen had last exchanged a third-grade Spirit Seed, the Sword Gourd, from the Agricultural Palace, and now, not long after, he was back for another new third-grade Spirit Plant.
It seemed that cultivating third-grade Spirit Plants was no longer a challenge for him.
"Land brother, these two jade catalogs contain records of most of the third- and fourth-grade Spirit Plants in our sect, except for some unique varieties. You can browse through them and make your selection."
He handed Lu Chen two jade catalogs and spoke gently.
Lu Chen nodded and slowly browsed through the catalogs.
With each turn of the page, a lifelike, three-dimensional image of a Spirit Plant would appear on the catalog, along with some basic information about the plant's category, grade, and uses in the bottom right corner.
