Chapter 150: Teasing the Children
Chapter 150: Teasing the Children
Consort Ren stood for a while and realized that the atmosphere seemed a bit awkward, or perhaps more accurately, delicate.
As she remained silent, the others found it difficult to speak as well. This collective silence hung in the air.
Consort Ren eventually became aware of the awkwardness and felt a bit embarrassed. She looked at the two little girls standing side by side, glancing at her from time to time and then back at the fish swimming in the distance. With a smile, she asked, "Would you like to feed the fish together?"
Feeding the fish could be a duo or a trio activity.
Su Su had no objections, but as she followed her sister, Liu He Meng, she turned to look at her, waiting for her response before speaking.
Liu He Meng felt that since Consort Ren had made the suggestion, they shouldn't refuse. Feeling Su Su's gaze on her, she quickly tightened her grip on Su Su's hand. After thanking Consort Ren, she agreed with a nod.
Although Su Su didn't respond verbally, she nodded obediently.
Consort Ren couldn't help but admire the two little heads bobbing up and down, finding them utterly adorable. Her hands itched to reach out and touch them.
Su Su, with her little hat, couldn't hide the fact that she had no hair.
Consort Ren refrained from asking further, fearing it might be a sensitive topic for the child. However, she found herself glancing at the little heads again, thinking it would be rather fun to pat one of them.
Su Su felt a chill on her head and quietly tucked herself closer behind Liu He Meng.
Consort Ren led the two children to feed the fish.
In fact, Consort Ren usually didn't pay much attention to flowers, birds, or fish. As a result, when it came to feeding the fish, she had no idea how much food to sprinkle.
A servant handed her the fish food, and after taking it, she glanced at the pond full of fish. Then, with a flick of her wrist, she scattered the entire bowl of food into the pond, creating a loud rustling sound.
The servants: ...!
You're trying to kill the fish!
The problem was that these fish weren't even good to eat.
With so much food, wouldn't the fish end up dying from overeating?
The servants were astonished but dared not speak up.
Su Su, not understanding the situation, happily clapped her hands and exclaimed, "Wow, so much!"
Consort Ren, initially unsure, felt proud upon hearing the child's words. She lifted her head slightly, adjusted her clothing, and smiled as she said, "We have plenty of fish food in the mansion, so it's no problem to feed them more. Bring some more."
The servants: ...!
Who will remind her about the fish?
However, thinking about the numerous fish in the pond, they figured a few might die from overeating, but it probably wouldn't be an issue. After all, it was Consort Ren overfeeding them, not the servants!
Since no one dared to contradict her, they handed her another bowl of fish food.
Consort Ren happily scattered the food again and watched as the fish swam about joyfully. She even felt proud of herself, nodding in satisfaction. "Look, they're so hungry. We should be more diligent in feeding them."
The servants: ...
Perhaps the fish didn't have any memory and wouldn't recall that they had already eaten?
No one dared to voice this thought.
Because even if they did, Consort Ren might not be willing to listen.
Liu He Meng felt that the fish probably couldn't eat that much.
However, as a child, she couldn't just speak her mind without any basis. After thinking about it, she ultimately decided not to say anything.
Su Su, on the other hand, didn't understand at all. She simply echoed others' words as long as they weren't malicious.
When Consort Ren said the fish were hungry, Su Su nodded.
Consort Ren fed the fish, and Su Su happily clapped her hands.
Now, when Consort Ren said that the fish were usually fed too little and were therefore very hungry, Su Su nodded again.
Consort Ren watched the little girl's head bobbing up and down and found it amusing. She teased, "Su Su, slow down, or your head might fall off and be eaten by the fish!"
Su Su: ?
The little girl looked at Consort Ren with a terrified expression, then quickly covered her head with her hands.
Seeing the child's pale face, Consort Ren couldn't help but feel amused. She thought that teasing children was indeed quite entertaining.
Unfortunately, her two sons offered little entertainment. One was too dull, while the other was too clever, leaving her with little joy in their company. However, she now found some consolation in teasing Su Su.
No wonder the Princess adored this child. Consort Ren thought to herself that she also quite liked playful children.
With these thoughts in mind, she reached out to touch Su Su's little hat, but as she drew closer, she couldn't resist and ended up playfully tapping the child's forehead.
Tap! It was a light tap, but it startled Su Su.
Having not experienced any punishment recently and sensing no ill intent from the beautiful auntie, Su Su's instinctive reaction to dodge was forgotten, and she obediently endured a light tap on the forehead.
Su Su looked confused and wronged, and the hands that had been covering her head now covered her forehead, a look of bewilderment and hurt on her face. Did she do something wrong and deserve this tap?
Seeing the little girl's bewildered and hurt expression, Consort Ren couldn't hold back her laughter. Her laughter was cheerful and generous, yet it carried a unique elegance that didn't give off a sense of rudeness but rather made her seem extremely amiable and approachable.
Little did they know that this amiable-looking person was currently enjoying herself, teasing a little child and finding great amusement in it.
Su Su's hurt expression tugged at Liu He Meng's heartstrings, and she turned to scrutinize Su Su's head carefully.
However, as a child herself, Liu He Meng couldn't bring herself to blame Consort Ren, and she anxiously paced at the side, feeling helpless.
Witnessing this scene, Consort Ren couldn't contain her laughter any longer. She stepped forward, laughing, and patted Su Su's shoulder in a soothing manner. "Oh dear, I didn't mean to. I just couldn't help myself. Let me see if it turned red."
Su Su didn't fully trust the pretty auntie, but she still obediently loosened her grip.
The child's lack of grudge-holding was endearing, and one couldn't help but worry if such a forgiving nature would make her susceptible to bullying in the future.
However, being a young lady of the manor with the Princess's protection, it was unlikely that she would be bullied. Consort Ren pondered this but still felt somewhat uneasy. She bent down to meet Su Su's eyes, gently rubbing the spot where she had tapped her forehead, and said with a smile, "Silly child, if someone bullies you and you can't fight back, remember to run away. Otherwise, staying put and getting bullied would be very unpleasant."
Su Su didn't sense any malice from Consort Ren, and upon hearing her words, she gently shook her head. "But, Auntie, you didn't bully me."
Hearing this response, Consort Ren felt a mix of heartache and the urge to laugh again.
She thought to herself that Su Su was indeed still a child, with her simple thinking and innocent ideas.
But who could say that such innocence wasn't adorable?
If she weren't adorable, would she have stayed here to be teased and entertained like this?
However, it was precisely because of this adorableness and the joy she brought that Consort Ren felt the need to remind Su Su of the wickedness of the world and the complexity of human nature. It was crucial that Su Su learned to discern between good and ill intentions.
With these thoughts in mind, Consort Ren gently patted Su Su's shoulder and said with a slightly more serious expression, "But when it comes to others, you can't be too trusting. Next time someone tries to bully you, remember to run away."
