Chapter 150: Action
Chapter 150: Action
The blade of chaos descended, bringing the duel to a close.
Even after the duel image disappeared, the Card Professors remained stunned, their eyes fixed on the spot where the Chaos Warrior had vanished. They were speechless for a long moment.
Still immersed in the shock of "Your blank card actually had an effect," Pegasus quickly regained his footing.
"That was a good duel. I concede defeat." He mused for a moment, "But for Chaos Warrior to gain such immense power through ritual materials... so this is the true evolution of Chaos? It seems our research has been misguided all this time."
He glanced at Kyosuke by his side.
"As expected of Kaiba Corporation, renowned for its research capabilities. To achieve such a remarkable breakthrough... This dispels the notion that Chaos Warrior research has hit a dead end."
"Thank you for the compliment, but this is not our doing." Kyosuke smiled and gestured to You Xuan, "Chaos Warrior chose him. It is because of You Xuan that we were able to achieve these results, contrary to what you suggested."
Pegasus was surprised and turned to look at You Xuan once more.
He narrowed his eyes, as if scrutinizing something behind You Xuan.
You Xuan followed his gaze and turned to see the Chaos Warrior, who had returned to its spirit form after the duel, standing guard-like behind him, its hand on the sword hilt.
Realizing something, You Xuan asked, "Can you see it?"
"Yes, my 'Elf Affinity' is quite high." Pegasus smiled, "I see. No wonder you possess such power. Are you also a 'Chosen Duelist'?"
After all, as a former holder of the Evil God card, it was not unusual for Pegasus to have a high Elf Affinity ability.
"A powerful elf is indeed a dueling support," Pegasus continued, "but an exceptional duelist like yourself is also the elf's good fortune."
Closing his eyes, Pegasus smiled gently. "I concede defeat. There's nothing more to say. In fact..."
He paused, taking in You Xuan and the Chaos Warrior behind him.
"...that form of the 'Chaos Warrior' didn't even show its full power, did it?"
The Card Professors' hearts skipped a beat at his words.
Even with all that power on display, it wasn't its full strength? At the very least, in their eyes, the dominance the Chaos Warrior had just displayed was unmatched by any ordinary monster.
"Mr. Pegasus is indeed perceptive," You Xuan acknowledged, "Yes, that's true."
The abilities bestowed upon the Chaos Warrior by the two materials, Creation and Twilight, were even more extensive.
When summoned using both knights as materials, the Chaos Warrior could actually activate "Dimension Slash" twice per turn, excluding two monsters from play.
Alternatively, it could choose to either "Additional attack after destroying a monster in battle" or "Seal one card from the opponent's hand until their next turn."
Thus, this blank card not only had an effect, but it had multiple effects, making it incredibly versatile. In practice, it could easily give the opponent the illusion of, "Since it's not written on the card, it can do whatever it wants."
"As I thought," Pegasus continued, "It's a shame I wasn't able to witness the full extent of its abilities. I hope to have the opportunity to meet it again in the future."
Smiling, Pegasus turned and addressed the upper level of the duel arena. "What insights does President Kaiba have to offer about this duel?"
Following his gaze, the group noticed that Kaiba had quietly appeared on the second floor balcony of the duel arena without anyone noticing.
"Big brother!" Kyosuke exclaimed in surprise.
Without a word, Kaiba leaped over the railing and landed in a half-crouched position.
"Keihei!" Guiping quickly greeted as he approached. Goembo, with his arms folded, walked forward and locked eyes with Yahiko.
After a few seconds of silence, Yahiko spoke first.
"I've always wanted a chance to say this," he said softly. "I'm sorry about what happened back then, President Kaiba."
Kaiba sized him up for a moment but didn't acknowledge the apology; he simply turned his back on Yahiko.
A few of the Card Professors seemed annoyed by this apparent show of contempt and were about to say something, but Yahiko shot them a glare that stopped them in their tracks.
Kaiba took a couple of steps before briefly pausing and saying without turning his head, "You're at least a Duelist, so if you are, get stronger and challenge me head-on."
As he said this, he turned his head to give a confident, cold smile.
"Of course," he continued, "I'm afraid you don't have the guts for it now."
Yahiko was taken aback for a moment before he, too, smiled.
"I understand," he said sincerely. "This is a Duelist's promise."
"Hmph." Kaiba didn't turn back but now looked at You Xuan.
"You Xuan's performance today was incredible," Keihei quickly flattered. "First, he dueled the Card Professors in the Link System, and then there was the duel just now. And he just got the new Chaos Warrior card today, yet he was able to use it so skillfully, right, big brother?"
Kaiba remained silent, but his gaze held a hint of approval.
It hadn't been long since their last meeting, and yet You Xuan had shown remarkable improvement in such a short time.
The urge to duel was beginning to stir again.
"Don't forget about Duel City," Kaiba reminded him. "Don't let me down."
"Of course," You Xuan nodded.
"By the way, President, I just remembered something else," You Xuan said. "Actually, I've always had a deep passion for Duel Monsters since I was little. Not just dueling, but also the discovery and card design research of Duel Monsters.
Recently, my teachers at the academy have also noticed my extraordinary talent in this area and are guiding and cultivating me. With the academy's support, I'm setting up a laboratory."
"Get to the point," Kaiba interrupted.
So, You Xuan obediently cut to the chase: "We need money."
That's how honest and straightforward he was.
In fact, before coming to the Kaiba Corporation headquarters today, he had done some background research. He knew that the president had been vigorously promoting Duel Monsters research and development in all fields in recent years, and he had not only built up his own research teams but also made numerous investments.
Many research institutes and individual teams had received funding from Kaiba Corporation through various channels. The president seemed to have set up a special fund to invest in Duel Monsters research teams that he deemed promising.
You Xuan now had his own small laboratory, which could be considered a start-up research team. Getting funding from the president would be as easy as a snap of his fingers.
As expected, when he heard about the money, the president was not only unperturbed but also quite approving.
He seemed to think that You Xuan was showing promise.
He had always advocated for scientific printing, and that was how he had created his stable of White Dragon steeds.
Since this was something the president could easily do, he didn't hesitate to agree with a single word.
"Okay."
