Chapter 15: The First Proactive Instance Run
Chapter 15: The First Proactive Instance Run
The next morning, Liam saw Malfoy's surprised expression when he discovered Harry Potter was still at the school. Honestly, seeing young Malfoy with that look on his face was quite cute.
Harry and Ron seemed to be discussing something in private, but every time Liam approached, they would stop their conversation. It looked like they had already started speculating about what lay beneath the trapdoor guarded by the Three-Headed Dog.
There was another situation that was neither good nor bad: Hermione had stopped talking to Liam. This made him a bit sad, but it also gave him more time to interact with other students in the Common Room. Several classmates told Liam that without Hermione sitting nearby, they felt much more relaxed. It seemed that Hermione's social skills were indeed a bit lacking.
However, after more than a week, Hermione, after being reprimanded by Harry for the Nimbus 2000 incident, finally gave Liam the chance to apologize. (As an adult, apologizing to a victim after involving them in danger isn't something to be ashamed of.) Children's relationships are straightforward, so after a week of cooling off, Hermione forgave Liam's recklessness, and their relationship returned to normal.
The weekend arrived again. After everyone in the dormitory had fallen asleep, Liam drew the bed curtains to block his roommates' view and chose to enter the Multiverse Emporium.
Previously, Liam had tried waiting to see if any customers would come on their own, but apart from the mayor of the Ice Age World's Winterhome who visited before he came to school, no one had shown up in over a month since he started school.
It wasn't until he entered the Multiverse Emporium and communicated with the System that he learned the probability of customers visiting was directly linked to the Shopkeeper's power. The fact that he had one visitor last time was already a stroke of good luck.
Since he couldn't just wait around, Liam walked to the emporium's door and began selecting the world he wanted to traverse. The new worlds were categorized by danger level, from one to nine.
The Deviation Points required to open a spatial door started at one and doubled with each increase in level. The Plants vs. Zombies World, for instance, was classified as a level five world. Considering a world filled with intelligent plants and superpowered zombies, it was clear that it wasn't as simple as the game.
Liam thought for a moment and decided that levels one and two might not offer what he needed. Even if he could obtain firearms, they would be standard weapons from regular worlds, and with his 11-year-old body and lack of professional training, he wouldn't be able to use powerful single-handed weapons.
Moreover, using a gun to shoot at Cerberus or a Troll in a confined space would be like shooting an elephant at close range with a pistol—essentially suicide. Not to mention that Voldemort, being formless, was immune to all physical attacks. Using a gun to resolve petty conflicts with students like Malfoy would be excessive.
A level five world like Plants vs. Zombies was a stroke of luck where he didn't encounter many enemies, but he couldn't rely on luck for everything. If he had bad luck and encountered a large group of zombies, with his current strength, he wouldn't stand a chance. With only six Deviation Points, level three became his only option.
After making his decision, Liam paid four Deviation Points. A flash of light, and he was transported.
———The Line of Transition———
If you were granted omnipotent superpowers, what would you do? Clearly, the world Liam now found himself in was facing this question.
Liam hid behind a large tree at the edge of a clearing in a small forest. Fortunately, it was night, and his black school uniform made it easy to blend into the darkness.
When he first arrived, he saw the patch of grass beneath his feet, the surrounding trees, and the large pit nearby, from which strange sounds were emanating. Liam knew he had arrived at a popular location for such transitions—the world of the movie "Unlimited Power."
It makes sense, in a world where combat power can be obtained with zero barriers so quickly, even in countless movies, such a scenario is still considered rare.
Liam felt a deep sense of pity for the original protagonist of the movie. In a world without superpowers, if someone suddenly becomes a superhero and exposes themselves to the public, the outcome is not hard to predict.
Unless an Extraordinary Being forms an organization or is completely invincible, there will always be groups that try to control or kill them. Even if they are invincible in terms of power, as long as they retain a shred of humanity, there will always be a way to control them, or even make them commit suicide.
After all, no matter how powerful an individual is, they can never match the strength of a collective.
Fortunately, he entered the world early. Liam took off his magic robe and covered the cave entrance, then used Transfiguration to make the robe blend in with the surrounding grass. He then hid behind a nearby tree to observe the situation.
After about an hour, three young men passed through the small forest, two white and one black. It seemed they were the original protagonists.
They walked around the clearing and then left, without discovering the cave entrance hidden by magic.
As soon as they were out of Liam's sight, a ringing sound echoed in his mind.
— Thoroughly altered the plot, earned 20 Deviation Points.
What a windfall! Liam excitedly clenched his fist. Unfortunately, such opportunities are rare. By preventing the plot from unfolding at the start, he couldn't continuously harvest Deviation Points over time. So, different methods of interfering with the plot each have their pros and cons.
For the original protagonists, even though they couldn't become superpowered beings, avoiding a premature death or having to go into hiding and abandon everything to live far away might not be such a bad thing.
After confirming that the trio had left, Liam ran to the cave entrance, lifted the magic robe, and jumped down.
The cave wasn't large. After a few steps and a turn, Liam saw a crystal that resembled a sea urchin, glowing blue.
He thought for a moment, then reached out and grabbed a crystal shard growing from the crystal. At that moment, the System displayed a message in his mind.
— You have obtained an item that can be sold. Do you want to store it in the emporium? Yes/No
Liam chose Yes, and the crystal disappeared before his eyes. With the crystal gone, the rocks and dirt supporting the cave began to fall. Liam quickly fled towards the entrance, scrambling out onto the ground.
After running a short distance, Liam entered the forest. Suddenly, a loud rumbling sound came from behind him. He grabbed a tree trunk and turned to look back at the clearing. A pit the size of a medium-sized van had appeared on the ground.
Liam knew he had accomplished his goal in this world, so he returned to the Multiverse Emporium.
On the shelves, Liam found that the crystal had shrunk to the size of a palm and was placed in a compartment. A sign below read that by stimulating the brain in a certain way, it could grant the user up to a hundred-ton level of Telekinesis.
Usable 3/3 times, cannot be stacked.
Liam hesitated for a long time over the crystal, but finally decided against using it to gain powers. He didn't know what kind of effect the brain stimulation might have. If it caused irreversible damage to his brain, it could harm his magical abilities. After all, magic was the foundation of his existence, and taking the risk for a power with a natural limit wasn't worth it. He decided to keep the crystal as a trade item.
Although this adventure didn't grant him the power he had planned, he had accumulated a total of 22 Deviation Points. After tallying his gains, Liam resisted the urge to look back at the source of rapid power and chose to return.
Lying in bed, he glanced at the clock. As before, only an hour had passed.
It seems that no matter how much time he spends in other worlds, only one hour passes in this world.
This is great news; it will make time management much easier in the future.
Liam briefly analyzed his adventure in his mind, then threw his tired body onto the bed and quickly fell asleep.
