Chapter 147: You Understand? You Understand Jack Shit!
Chapter 147: You Understand? You Understand Jack Shit!
After confirming the effects of the Wolfsbane Potion, Ivan declined the enthusiastic invitations of the Werewolf wizards to stay longer.
Leaving the Encampment, Douglas, who had been silent the entire time, finally spoke in praise.
"You did a great job this time. Compared to vulgar money, reputation is truly what matters."
As Douglas said this, he couldn't help but sigh. He realized he had seriously underestimated the young wizard, Ivan. Not only had Ivan managed to develop the Wolfsbane Potion in a short time, but he also resisted the temptation of money.
This made the next steps much easier. Douglas believed that as long as the promotion was done right, Ivan could easily win the favor of all werewolves, which would be very helpful for the future plans.
You really are something!
Douglas looked at Ivan with a mix of admiration and regret. If he had had such courage back then, he wouldn't have ended up in his current situation.
Ivan didn't know what Douglas was thinking, but he didn't agree with his statement.
Vulgar money?
If you don't want it, I'll take it!
"Headmaster Douglas, since you find money vulgar, why don't you take over the brewing of the Wolfsbane Potion? That way, we can further reduce its price", Ivan said with a roll of his eyes.
"Ahem, Galleons may be vulgar, but they are sometimes necessary", Douglas coughed awkwardly.
For the rest of the journey, Douglas negotiated with Ivan about the remuneration for the brewing, striving to secure every bit of benefit. They finally reached an agreement just before reaching home.
For each bottle of Wolfsbane Potion brewed, Douglas would receive one Galleon.
Ivan had wanted to lower the price further, but Douglas was firm in his stance, showing no sign of the disdain for money he had previously expressed. Ivan had to give in.
After all, not just anyone could brew the Wolfsbane Potion. It required a high level of Potion expertise to ensure a successful brew.
If they found another Potions Master, the price might be even higher, so it was better to have Douglas handle it.
Ivan thought that this way, Douglas would have something to do instead of just extorting money from patients.
After settling the price, Ivan suddenly realized he had no plan for promoting the Wolfsbane Potion. Whether it would sell or not was still uncertain.
And he wasn't sure if the magical world had a concept of patents, and if so, where to apply for one.
Just as Ivan was about to ask, he saw Douglas waving his hand and saying, "Don't worry, I understand, I understand everything! Think about what you're going to say over the next two days, and get yourself a decent outfit. Look a bit more dignified. In two days, I'll take you to the Ministry of Magic!"
With that, Douglas waved his Wand and Apparated away hurriedly, leaving Ivan standing in front of the shop, dazed.
After a long moment, he finally managed to mutter, "You understand jack shit!"
Even after Ivan returned home, he still didn't fully understand what Douglas meant, but he guessed they would be meeting some important figures at the Ministry of Magic in two days.
It was dinner time, and Aisia, holding a dinner plate, noticed Ivan's furrowed brow and asked in concern, "What's wrong? Didn't things go well today?"
Aisia knew that Ivan had successfully brewed the Wolfsbane Potion and had gone to Knockturn Alley to test it on the werewolves, so she assumed there had been some issue with the Potion's development.
"No, everything went smoothly. The Wolfsbane Potion worked just as I expected!" Ivan relaxed his brow, shook his head, and replied.
"It seems that you will soon become the youngest recipient of the Order of Merlin in the wizarding World." Aisia was slightly surprised, but mostly delighted.
"Amazing! I knew you would succeed!" Aisia said happily, unable to resist leaning forward and kissing Ivan on the forehead.
"Um, I should be able to get it! Let's eat first!" Ivan blushed slightly, picking up his knife and fork to change the subject. For the moment, he didn't dwell on what Douglas was up to; he would find out in two days anyway.
During the following two days, Ivan didn’t waste any time.
Besides his daily magic practice and occasional discussions with Tom about Spellcasting techniques, he also frequently visited the Werewolf wizards' camp to check on their situation.
Ivan hadn’t forgotten one of the reasons he sought out the Werewolves—to have them help gather intelligence in Knockturn Alley, especially to watch for any Dark wizards targeting his magic shop.
When Fenrir heard about this, he didn’t hesitate to agree, even refusing to accept any payment from Ivan.
In Fenrir's view, Ivan had reduced the price of the Wolfsbane Potion for the Werewolf wizards, incurring a significant loss. Helping out with a small favor was the least he could do.
Moreover, Fenrir was counting on Ivan, the creator of the Wolfsbane Potion, to develop a cure for their condition in the future.
If anything happened, the flicker of hope that had just ignited would be extinguished.
So not only did Fenrir agree, but the other Werewolf wizards also pledged to help gather information during their free time.
However, Ivan didn’t want to take advantage of their gratitude, so after some consideration, he decided to offer them a different form of compensation.
Since he would need a large amount of Werewolf blood to brew the Wolfsbane Potion, he promised the Werewolf wizards present that they could receive a free bottle of the Potion in exchange for two blood donations per month!
Werewolves had excellent healing abilities; Walker recovered from a thousand milliliters of blood in just a few days, indicating that a blood draw every two weeks wouldn’t harm their health.
After the change in compensation, Fenrir could only laugh bitterly, and the other Werewolf wizards didn’t refuse.
The ten Galleons cost of the Wolfsbane Potion was a significant expense for them. If they could get a bottle in exchange for two blood donations, they wouldn’t need to save up by cutting expenses.
The only thing that puzzled Ivan was that despite the Werewolf wizards agreeing to his proposal, the first stage of the System task to unify Knockturn Alley by subduing the Werewolf wizards didn’t show as completed.
"It seems completing the task isn’t that easy, no wonder it’s given a two-year deadline." Ivan muttered to himself, looking at the unchanged task list.
Upon reflection, Ivan understood.
To these Werewolf wizards, he was more of a benefactor. While they were grateful, they clearly didn’t plan to pledge their loyalty to a twelve-year-old Young wizard.
Thinking about this, Ivan felt quite helpless.
It wasn’t that he suddenly had grand ambitions to recruit a group of Werewolves as his subordinates to dominate Knockturn Alley.
Rather, he wanted to complete the task so he could obtain the formula for the potent Wolfsbane Potion.
Although he didn’t yet know how it differed from the regular version, the term "potent" suggested it might truly cure the Werewolves.
