Chapter 147: If All Goes Well
Chapter 147: If All Goes Well
Compared to before, Sagge's Overlord color was now more refined. Although he still couldn't release it at will, he had gained the ability to direct its release, ensuring that his aura didn't leak out and affect those around him.
However, it could still be sensed by others.
Even if one didn't face it directly, the formidable might brought about by the Hegemon color could be felt.
That intensity was terrifyingly powerful!
Hawkins stared at Sagge, who had almost poked a hole in the sky, and a chill ran down his spine.
Was this the meaning of the phrase he often used—an aura that transcended everything?
"Go, tear down those houses for me!" Sagge pointed at the houses with their roofs blown off by the hurricane, their walls cracked and crumbling under the onslaught of water and storm, looking ready to collapse at any moment.
Lili only needed a moment to understand Sagge's intention. She stepped on the edge of the ship, her body like a thunderclap, and transformed into a white light, swiftly flashing several white lights in a three-story building in front of her.
Boom!
The building was sliced into several segments under her attack, collapsing to the ground and forming a pile of rubble.
"I understand now."
Upon witnessing this scene, Hawkins comprehended Sagge's intention. He drew his longsword, and the straw wrapped around the blade.
"Straw-blade Armament."
Hawkins swung his sword forward, and the straw blade extended and then suddenly split into several strands, like whips cutting through a building, causing it to crumble into several sections and collapse into the alley.
Although Renitia didn't quite understand, it wasn't a problem. She just had to follow Sagge's instructions. She pulled down her goggles to cover her eyes, twisted the mechanical hammer to extend it, and locked it onto one of the houses. But then she changed her mind and chose another one instead.
The house she had targeted earlier had people taking refuge on its roof, but the one she was aiming at now had its doors wide open, seemingly empty. With a twist of her hammer's handle, she released an air cannon, smashing the house into pieces, leaving the stones and wood piled up on the ground.
Ajin used the Moonwalk technique to jump into the sky, and with the sickle hammer in his hand, he swung it in a circle and descended with great force, smashing it down on a house. The immense power caused the house to cave in, and shards flew everywhere.
Since there were uninhabited houses nearby, they didn't have to worry about finding a suitable place to strike; they just had to follow Sagge's rule of not making things difficult for those who were already suffering.
In their eyes, ordinary people were already suffering enough.
Bang!
Boom!!
The people hiding on the roofs and those who had taken refuge on the second floor watched in terror as strangers, who seemed to have appeared out of nowhere in the midst of the storm, destroyed the buildings. They huddled together, afraid that the strangers would turn their destructive powers on them.
It wasn't until the outskirts of the port city were blocked by the ruins, forming a ruinous circle, that they stopped.
The waves hit the ruins, and blocked by them, the waves recoiled, no longer pouring into the city.
As an island known for its rainy season, this city actually had decent waterproof facilities. It was just that the previous tsunami had been too fierce. Now that the waves were no longer pounding, the weakened storm wouldn't cause much harm to the city.
Soon, the torrent within the city calmed, becoming less turbulent and gradually receding to the point where it only reached ankle height.
The wind and rain continued, but the civilians in this city were overjoyed.
Several civilians ran out, not caring that their shoes were getting wet, and exclaimed, "So you're good people after all! We misunderstood you, thank you for saving us!"
"It's too early to thank us!"
Sagge waved his hand, and the pirates who had been waiting on deck immediately jumped off the ship, their faces twisted in sinister grins. They leaped over the ruins and charged straight into the city, intent on plunder.
The civilians on the streets froze, and soon, they cried out in alarm, running back into the nearby houses to take cover.
Sagge leaped down from the ship and stood in the street, laughing heartily at the crowd, "I'm here to rob you!"
He had only torn down the houses to control the floodwaters and contain the water, purely to give his men a place to stand.
The pirates charged forward, specifically targeting undamaged houses, large mansions, and exquisite shops on the street. Wherever they went, they looted and pillaged.
Currently, their ship was well-stocked with abundant supplies from the raid on Anu Country, and they didn't need anything temporarily. For the three targets on this route, Sagge didn't plan to resupply—he only needed money.
As a prosperous economic town with a constant influx of new products, San Popula had a lot of money. Even from what Sagge could see, his men would come out of a single house carrying a small treasure chest filled with Berries and gold and silver jewelry.
This only added to his mirth.
As an economic city and a flourishing area of the Magnetic Field Island, the city naturally had decent defensive powers. However, in the face of this stormy disaster, those powers had been scattered, which was why the pirates' looting was going so smoothly.
But even if they had reacted in time, it wouldn't have made much difference; these pirates were no ordinary band.
Although the process had been a bit bumpy, Sagge was satisfied with the outcome of this intense storm.
His plan had been flawless.
It took about four hours for the pirates to finish their looting and return to the Death Star with their bounty. As the black ship set sail, the once-turbulent sky turned pitch black again, foreboding imminent doom.
Then, it vanished.
The dark and heavy clouds popped like bubbles, revealing clear skies. The raging winds ceased, and the torrential rains diminished to a gentle spring drizzle characteristic of Spring Queen's City.
The people around were left dumbfounded, looking around in disbelief.
The floodwaters in the street alleys had mostly receded, leaving only a few puddles behind. They had come out of this unscathed, with only some damaged houses and ruins around the outskirts of the city as a reminder of the disaster.
Otherwise, everything seemed untouched.
It was as if they had just woken up from a dream. "Did we really just get robbed by pirates?" one civilian asked, still dazed.
"I don't know," another replied, equally bewildered. "What did they take from us?"
"Well, they didn't take anything from me!" The first speaker thought for a moment, then shrugged. "Forget about it!"
...
"Ho ho ho ho!"
Sagge's laughter rang out, piercing through the rain curtains.
In the banquet hall, Sagge looked at the two dozen treasure chests filled with valuables and laughed heartily. "Now this is what I call the bounty of a prosperous town!"
These were not just piles of Berries, but chests filled with precious items, gold coins being the least of them. There were also jewelries and gold ornaments.
"Ajin, bring me that gold bracelet, those few rings, and that scepter, too."
A red dot appeared in Sagge's eyes as he scanned the chests, pointing out the items he wanted.
Ajin obediently presented the items Sagge had indicated.
What Sagge had chosen were not detected by some special Observer's Color, but rather by the ordinary application of the ability. It was not unlike a swordsman's ability to sense a fine blade, or perhaps even the innate sense one might have without being a swordsman.
Just as a swordsman could sense a renowned blade, or even sometimes detect a unique aura without being a swordsman, Sagge was sensitive to treasures.
During his previous battle with Donquixote Doflamingo, he had lost quite a few valuables, and now, seeing these fine pieces, he naturally wanted to adorn himself with them again.
The gold bracelet Ajin brought over was only slightly smaller than a forearm guard, adorned with gem-encrusted runes. It seemed to be a noble family's heirloom passed down through generations.
Among the rings, there was a black gem-encrusted gold signet ring, a gem-and-gold-encrusted ring, and a rune-inscribed band. Each of them, in Sagge's perception, was a collectible worthy of preservation.
As for the scepter, it was topped with a three-petaled flower emblem and studded with gems. In his eyes, it exuded a deep historical aura, making it a piece worthy of his collection.
Sagge played with the scepter, a pleased smile on his face as he declared, "This time, we've made a good haul. I've given you all the Berries, so now, split half the gold and keep the rest for yourselves!"
The amount of Berries looted was not a small sum, estimated to be around two to three hundred million. However, Sagge was in a generous mood, so he gave it all away.
The number of pirates involved in the looting was also considerable, so it was only fair to share the Berries among them. As for the gold, the truly valuable items, they would divide those among themselves.
The value of this haul definitely surpassed that of Rogue Town.
However, compared to the previous raid on Rogue Town, where he had to exert a lot of effort, this time, in Spring Queen's City, it had been far too easy.
What about the storm?
That was too simple an issue compared to the challenges of battle.
After the loot was divided, it was time for the customary feast. Having left the rainy season's territorial waters, the storm had returned to its usual intensity—a severity that would have sunk any ordinary ship but was manageable for the well-trained crew under Lily's command.
In other words, it was as fierce as a ship could handle without sinking.
"We've successfully raided Spring Queen's City! Next up is Food Town!"
On the third floor, in the conference room, Sagge laughed loudly, "The Navy probably hasn't fully reacted yet, and we won't run into any problems at Food Town either. After we hit all three targets, even if the Navy realizes what we're up to, it'll be too late for them to do anything about it! Lily, why are you frowning?
"Is Food Town also rainy?"
"No," Lily shook her head. "It has a summer climate, although it's not tropical. Your storms will still be smaller there."
"Never mind about the storms, it doesn't matter as long as the plan goes smoothly," Sagge replied, his mood too cheerful to bother with corrections.
As for Lily, she couldn't help but wonder, "Is it really going to be that smooth? As one of the oldest members of this pirate crew, having followed Sagge since the beginning, I know his history well."
"Back then, I was naive and only understood the world of pirates in theory. I used to think that what Sagge did was normal piracy. But after entering the Grand Line, especially after recruiting that batch of pirates from Devil Valley, I realized it's not that simple."
"Normal pirates engage in standard robberies. If they're unlucky, they might not encounter any merchant ships. Running into the Navy would be exceptionally bad luck."
"There are some who raid coastal towns or villages, but even then, they usually just grab some essential supplies and don't stay long—an hour at most. That's the typical trajectory of a normal pirate."
"Sagge, on the other hand, is not normal. It's not a matter of bad luck; this is just the norm for him."
Lily was reflecting on their experiences.
When Sagge recruited his crew, he encountered Garp.
During the raid on Rogue Town, they met Zeffa.
When they tried to rob Alabasta, they were surrounded by the Navy.
In Devil Valley, they ran into one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, Donquixote Doflamingo.
Even while raiding Anu Country, they encountered a formidable opponent.
And now, at Spring Queen's City, all they faced was a storm and a tsunami? Although it caused some damage, it was still just a storm.
For Sagge, was it all too easy?
Something felt off.
However, seeing Sagge's confident smile, Lily shook her head inwardly, thinking perhaps she was overthinking things again.
Four days later, the Death Star arrived at Food Town.
This time, they didn't encounter any storms, and the sky even cleared up.
If all went well, Sagge would be able to pull off the smoothest robbery yet.
If all went well...
BOOM!!!
The island trembled as if a powerful earthquake had struck, accompanied by gigantic waves that were even larger than a typical tsunami. The waves engulfed half the island, and amidst the chaos, several colossal objects, each the size of half the island, came crashing down. Their immense size caused the island to shake, as if it were crying out in pain and about to shatter.
They were sea kings! Enormous sea kings! But what drew the eye was the gaping hole in each of their bodies, their blood staining the island a deep crimson.
Amidst the fallen sea kings, Sagge stood with his fishing rod, his lower body submerged in the seawater, his face grim and terrifying.
In contrast, the crew members of the Death Star, who were farther away on the beach, wore expressions of shock and fear.
"Sagge, are we still going to rob the place?" Lily stared at the sea kings' corpses, dazed for a moment before snapping back to reality.
The beach leading to Food Town was now blocked by the massive bodies of the sea kings, each one resembling a mountain obstructing their path. One of the sea kings even lay between them and the Death Star, separating them from the ship.
The unexpected had occurred.
As another island on the Grand Line's Magnetic Island route, this island was famous not only for being a mandatory stop for the sea train but also for its rich marine life.
Food Town thrived because of this abundance. The combination of the fresh catch and the supplies brought in by the sea train made the town prosperous.
The fish here were so plentiful that one didn't even need to go out to sea to catch them. The island had sandy beaches all around, providing natural landing spots, and Food Town was located just behind one of these beaches.
The tides here were unpredictable, and when the waters receded, they left behind a plethora of fish stranded on the beach, providing an easy catch for the town's residents.
However, this very abundance also proved to be their downfall.
When Sagge heard about the plentiful fish, his interest was piqued, and he decided to do some fishing after disembarking.
But he could never have anticipated the sudden high tide. He hadn't started fishing from the ship but had chosen a spot on the beach closer to the ocean.
The rising tide caught him off guard, submerging him up to his waist before he knew it.
And then the sea kings appeared.
