Chapter 1462: Good News
Chapter 1462: Good News
In the headquarters of the Defense Association, President Shana, who was sitting at her desk attending to the daily affairs of the association, looked up in surprise at the sound of the opening door.
"This is a rare treat. I thought you wouldn't be coming in today."
"I bring good news," Albert said, placing a newspaper on the desk.
Shana glanced at the headline and furrowed her brows slightly, as the content of the newspaper was incomprehensible to her.
"Impressive, knowing multiple languages."
She put down her quill and, grumbling, picked up the newspaper to examine the front-page photo more carefully. She then looked up and asked, "I can't read it. What's the good news?"
"A group of Death Eaters attacked the International Wizarding Confederation, resulting in the unfortunate deaths of three congressmen and several others being severely injured and hospitalized."
Albert was delighted as he spoke, never expecting things to go so smoothly.
Initially, giving Kingsley the Felix Felicis was a strategy to have Kingsley say Voldemort's name aloud at the scene, luring the Death Eaters and their mysterious allies into a trap, and giving those who loved a good show a front-row view of the action. The outcome was indeed pleasing.
Shana widened her eyes in surprise and then turned her attention back to the newspaper in her hands, as if trying to discern more details from it.
If this news were true, the situation in Britain could undergo earth-shaking changes.
"Do they plan to send a large number of Aurors to interfere with the situation in Britain?"
Shana seemed to have another thought and abruptly stood up, grabbing the newspaper from the desk and pulling Albert along with her as she headed out.
"What's going on?" Albert asked, puzzled by Shana's reaction.
"You probably haven't shared this news with the other members of the association yet. I think they'll be very happy to hear such good news."
"There's no need to rush," Albert said, his face full of reluctance as Shana pulled him along. "Fred will likely bring back the news when he returns from the Order of the Phoenix. We shouldn't steal Fred's thunder; it might dampen his enthusiasm."
"You're quite considerate," Shana said, continuing to pull Albert along without stopping. "But I think we should let everyone know as soon as possible."
"Has that guy been causing you a lot of trouble?" Albert asked, surprised by Shana's actions and curious about her motivation.
"Yes, quite a lot," Shana said through gritted teeth. "Lately, half of what I've been dealing with has been cleaning up their messes."
"In that case, you must be very busy. I'm glad I didn't get entangled in those troubles as well," Albert said, feeling vindicated about his decision to pass on the problems to someone else; otherwise, he might have been burdened with similar hassles.
"Let's get back to the topic at hand," Shana said, steering the conversation back on track. "Are we going to cooperate with the International Wizarding Confederation to strike hard against the Death Eaters?"
"It's hard to say if the International Wizarding Confederation will interfere in Britain's affairs," Albert replied. His intention in involving Kingsley was more to direct the Death Eaters' hatred toward him.
After all, the International Wizarding Confederation carried more weight than the British Ministry of Magic.
"Why?" Shana asked, perplexed.
"Politicians think differently from us, and it's hard to predict the outcome. Even if they do send people to Britain, they'll likely just go through the motions because, in the end, their lives are their own. No one is noble enough to risk their lives for others," Albert explained, feeling that Shana was being overly optimistic. Their role would likely be to conduct a unified reckoning with the Death Eaters after the Wizarding War concluded.
Yes, Albert had no intention of letting those Death Eaters escape unscathed as they had in the First Wizarding War.
After causing so much harm and taking so many lives, they couldn't be allowed to simply walk away. How could the victims ever rest in peace if that happened?
Moreover, Albert didn't want to face retaliation in the future, so he had to consider the safety of everyone involved.
Therefore, the Death Eaters must be eliminated.
This was undoubtedly uplifting news.
As the news spread throughout the building, the once gloomy association headquarters buzzed with excitement. Everyone fantasized about joining forces with the Aurors of the International Wizarding Confederation to strike against the dark wizards entrenched in their land.
With the inclusion of the International Confederation of Wizards, everyone became more optimistic about the future.
Some even boldly proclaimed, "If the mysterious man truly dares to offend all the wizards in the world, he'll be finished sooner or later."
But would things really go as smoothly as they imagined?
"I think you're being too optimistic," Kenneth said, pouring cold water on their excitement as Lee Jordan discussed with his peers how to share the good news on the radio.
"The outcome is not yet certain, so it's hard to say what will happen."
"Don't be so pessimistic," Lee Jordan said, putting an arm around his shoulder. "The International Confederation of Wizards has had their pride severely wounded. I don't believe they'll just sit idly by and do nothing."
Everyone shot a "shut up" glare at this guy who always loved to be a contrarian.
"But don't you think the Aurors from the International Confederation are useless?" He pointed out a key point that Albert had mentioned. "We all know the caliber of the Dark Wizards in Britain, and it's unimaginable that they were able to infiltrate the building and cause so much harm to the lawmakers, despite the overwhelming advantage in numbers on our side."
"Indeed, when I first read this newspaper, I was stunned..."
Just then, a shout interrupted Albert's words.
As everyone turned their heads, they saw Fred rushing in, breathless and excited, shouting the latest news he had just received.
"What is it?"
Seeing everyone's calm expressions, Fred gradually calmed down, perplexed by their lack of reaction to such significant news.
"The good news you mentioned, we already know," George said with a smile, putting his arm around Fred's shoulder.
Seeing Fred's frustrated expression, Lee Jordan beside him struggled to hold back his laughter. He handed the newspaper that Albert had brought to Fred and quietly explained what had just happened, leaving the excited Fred dumbfounded.
"Okay, I didn't know you had gone to the Order of the Phoenix, or I would have let you be the one to break the news," Albert said helplessly, changing the subject as he noticed Fred's resentful gaze. "Has Kingsley returned? Did he bring back any good news?"
"Kingsley said that the people from the International Confederation of Wizards were furious after being embarrassed by the Dark Wizards. They're gathering Aurors to come to Britain and deal with the Dark Wizards," Fred said excitedly.
"Then those Dark Wizards are in for a treat," Fred added.
"It's hard to say," Albert said with a hint of disappointment. He had been hoping to see a grand battle between the Aurors and the Death Eaters. "If the International Confederation of Wizards doesn't take immediate and clear action, it's most likely just an excuse."
"No way," the others said, not wanting to believe it or accept such an outcome. All they could do was wait.
Soon, this major event was spread far and wide through Lee Jordan's passionate broadcast. However, as everyone eagerly awaited the arrival of the Aurors from the International Confederation of Wizards to save them from their dire situation, they were perplexed to find that no news came, as if the whole thing had been a hoax.
Even Yaxley, who had expected retaliation, was confused. After learning about the Dark Wizards' impressive feats, he had been furious, but he breathed a sigh of relief when it seemed that the International Confederation of Wizards had no intention of interfering in Britain's affairs. However, it might be too soon to let down his guard just yet.
