Chapter 146: The Immortal Heritage from Ten Thousand Years Ago, Water and Fire Harmonization
"This Lihuo Ding’s origin... is truly ancient," Lu Qing murmured, his mind filled with newfound understanding after receiving the Heritage.
The Lihuo Ding had originated from the Lihuo Sect—an immortal sect that flourished ten thousand years ago. It was a sacred artifact forged by the entire sect using their collective strength, meant to be the soul of their sect. But during a cataclysmic war between the Lihuo Sect and another powerful immortal sect, the two sect’s core spirit artifacts clashed with devastating force. The Lihuo Ding was severely damaged, its internal spiritual array shattered, reverting it to its base form.
The battle was catastrophic. Not only was the artifact destroyed, but the entire Lihuo Sect was eradicated—wiped out entirely, its name erased from the world. Only a few scattered disciples survived by chance. The artifact was then taken by the sect’s leader’s son, who fled in secret to a hidden cave outside the sect’s original domain, where he hid and clung to life, wounded and dying.
Eventually, overwhelmed by his injuries, the leader’s son passed away within the cave, leaving the Lihuo Ding behind—sealed and forgotten for ten thousand years—until Wei Shanhai and Wang Cangyi finally discovered it.
The Heritage etched onto the ding was left behind by that same leader’s son, a final legacy from a dying man.
"Qi... immortal sects... I never imagined that in this world, ten thousand years ago, there once existed a mystical energy called Qi, and a cultivation path so revered it was known as 'immortal cultivation'." Lu Qing sighed, a hint of melancholy in his voice.
"But alas, the Qi is now so thin, so rare. Even if I’ve obtained this immortal cultivation method, it’s of little use now."
Indeed, the Heritage contained numerous immortal cultivation techniques—including the Lihuo Sect’s supreme combat art, Nanming Lihuo Qu, reserved exclusively for the sect’s leadership. Yet, every single method required the absorption and refinement of Qi to grow stronger.
Now, with Qi nearly extinct, these ancient techniques were as useful as paper in a storm. Their cultivation efficiency paled in comparison to the martial way.
After all, the martial path, once reaching the Xian Tian realm, could achieve power rivaling that of even the most advanced cultivators. And Heavenly and Earthly Qi—though not as miraculous as Qi—was abundant, omnipresent, and far more accessible.
Thus, despite holding the keys to ancient immortal wisdom, Lu Qing had no intention of switching paths for now.
"Still... though the main cultivation methods are unusable, some of the smaller techniques within the Heritage could be of great value to me."
For instance, the techniques on crafting and alchemy were highly instructive. The Lihuo Sect, named for its mastery of Lihuo—the fire of the sun—had delved deeply into the art of fire. But beyond combat, their expertise in forging and alchemy was legendary. Otherwise, they would never have crafted an artifact as divine as the Lihuo Ding.
Lu Qing, trained in medicine, found the alchemical knowledge immensely enlightening—expanding his understanding of healing and herbal mastery in ways he’d never imagined.
As for forging...
Earlier, during his battle with the Kuiwu Dahan, his War Blade had shattered. Forced into hand-to-hand combat, he’d felt the crushing disadvantage of lacking a proper weapon. Had his blade been stronger, defeating the giant would have taken only a single slash.
Now, with the knowledge of advanced forging techniques, he could attempt to craft his own true blade—his own weapon of destiny.
And the Heritage also contained fragments of insight into Spirit Soul Power. These could inspire him to develop a unique combat technique centered solely on cultivating and refining his Spirit Soul.
In silence, Lu Qing sat cross-legged, sorting through the vast knowledge now in his possession, contemplating his path forward.
Then, suddenly, a powerful surge erupted from outside.
His eyes snapped open.
The source of the disturbance came from his Master.
There, before him, the old doctor’s body displayed a wondrous sight: his left side was wrapped in swirling white mist, thick with moisture and coolness; his right side radiated intense red light, pulsing with fierce heat. Between his palms, a slow, seamless spiral of red and white energy spun—perfectly balanced, harmonious, and utterly unnatural.
The others, who had been absorbed in their own cultivation, were instantly awakened by the disturbance.
Their eyes widened in shock.
Wei Shanhai, in particular, gasped in disbelief. "Water and fire... fused? How is this possible!"
Water and fire... merging?
Lu Qing’s heart leapt. He activated his abilities instantly, focusing on his Master.
From the thick red aura surrounding the old doctor, several glowing text tags emerged:
【Chen Song Qing: Proficient in Medical Skills, kind-hearted, widely respected—a truly admirable elder physician.】
【Cultivation Level: Peak of Early Xian Tian Stage, mastery of both Water and Fire attribute Qi.】
【Holds a Merit Power, capable of attracting fortune and avoiding calamity—blessed with great fortune.】
【Exceptional Insight, has grasped a fragment of Xian Tian Ling Yu Insight.】
【Has领悟 the principle of Water and Fire Harmonization, mastering both Water and Fire Xian Tian Qi, allowing them to merge and complement each other. Cultivation speed has surged, power has multiplied.】
"Master... truly is a true prodigy," Lu Qing whispered, awestruck.
The old doctor had originally practiced a Water-based Xian Tian combat technique left behind by Li Weitian. His Xian Tian Qi had always been water-aligned.
Yet here, deep within this underground chamber, he had somehow understood the essence of Water and Fire Harmonization—mastering a second, completely opposite type of Qi. And not only were they compatible, they worked together, amplifying each other’s strength, and accelerating his cultivation like never before.
The entire cave fell silent. No one dared to cultivate anymore. All eyes were locked onto the old doctor, whose body now shimmered with the radiant fusion of two opposing forces.
Wei Xinghe, Ma Gu, and the others felt something stirring within their souls—fleeting, elusive insights born from the sight. But as they reached to grasp them, the threads slipped through their fingers.
Only when the luminous aura faded and the old doctor opened his eyes did they realize they had missed it entirely.
"Why are you all staring at me like that?" The old doctor blinked, startled by the intense gaze of everyone except Lu Qing. "Did something happen to me?"
"Chen Ye," Wei Shanhai asked urgently, his voice trembling. "What cultivation method were you practicing just now?"
As a fellow Xian Tian cultivator, he could still feel the shock of the dual energies—water and fire—coexisting in perfect harmony within the old doctor.
"Nothing special," the old doctor replied with a calm smile. "I was simply contemplating the unique essence of the ding. A sudden insight struck me, and I managed to unlock the fundamentals of another combat technique I’d studied before."
"But your body... you were emitting both water and fire energy simultaneously!" Wei Shanhai exclaimed, eyes wide. "How can one person cultivate two opposing types of Xian Tian Qi?"
"Merely a lucky breakthrough," the old doctor said with a humble wave. "I’ve only just grasped a fragment of the Five Elements’ Mutual Generation and Control principle."
Wei Shanhai’s eyes widened further—no longer the composed, powerful Xian Tian cultivator, but a man utterly stunned by the impossible.
